Both offensive and defensive units are learning new systems. Our HC has growing to do as well. Lets look past wins and losses right now. This team has a lot of growing to do, but with growing comes growing pains.
Eli is done. The OL will never get better. Sy was “right” about Hernandez. The coaching staff had to be all in on Eli to get hired. And so on and so forth.
2 fucking games. Two. 14 more to adequately assess whether this is all true or not.
Scenario? Patience. Patience, as hard as that might be right now.
when o'hara was at the end and he went down with an injury and his replacement was better than he was and our running game got better.
Now i'm not making comparisons, but when under this much stress already i thought.. well maybe Greco will start making better calls on the line and it will get start to click. I'm just grasping at anything at this point..

hard to be patient when we have a 37 year old qb who cannot make any adjustments at the line and is getting blitzed out of the league.

What magical line adjustment is Eli going to make when this O-line cannot handle a basic stunt!
heading to play another 0-2 team with plenty of issues of their own. Find a way to get one win and then we're heading back home feeling better and maybe we've got a season. 3-4 heading into the game against Washington, we'll have a chance as the second half schedule is lighter.
I say this though less out of a confidence in this franchise, but more so because I just can't bare to give up on another season in September. We wait to long for Giants football to do this again.
Two games is all we needed to see last year as well. Â
In the 2007 season, Spags newly constituted defense gave up 80 total points in the first 2 weeks. We didn't know at the time that the week 1 opponent (Dallas) and the week 2 opponent (Green Bay) would end up being the #1 and #2 seeds in the NFC playoffs.
The same defense that look horrible in weeks 1 and 2 gave up 14 points to the #1 offense of all time 18-0 Patriots in the SB XLII.
(BTW, I don't think the 2018 offense will become like the 2007 defense, but you asked for hope).

Fair enough - at what point is it OK to consider that maybe all those changes were bad moves and we're even more screwed than we were last season?
Do we check back in at Week 8, or do we have to go the full 16?

I’d say an ENTIRE season, but that’s just me. 8-10 games would be fair, imo
he's won 3 of his last 18 games. It's over. It's not turning around. This isn't even bottom.
When will it get better? When Chris Mara "retires" and a football president is hired with 100% authority to totally clean house and remake every aspect of how the Giants pick players.

The problem isn't Chris so much as John. He is as clueless as his father during the 60s/70s. indications: firing Coughlin instead of Reese; the whole story of benching Eli without letting Davis Webb touch the ball, in which John was deeply involved; announcing that the GM and HC would be evaluated after the season, then firing them a week later. When the CEO stinks, everything else is bound to stink. There is very little hope here, I fear, until John is forced to step back as his father was.
Not this time, this team is on the fast track to a top three/four pick. Franchise needs a blow up, an enema and a rebuild from scratch. They went half measure this off-season and I will admit I was excited since Eli is my favorite player in any sport ever. I drank the kool aid and thought this team could compete this year.
Last night was just like last year and on offense just like the last two years. This franchise is now one of the NFL's worst and Eli looks done as dinner with this group. It will be sad watching his body and legacy get beaten to pulp this season as his career record dips near or below five hundred with this group of losers.
There is no scenario where this team improves. The HC looked like a deer in headlights last night, I like the guy but this is a big rebuild and his career may also pay the price for the depths this franchise has sunk.
The Giants and Dallas had the same defensive game plan. Stop the run and make the QB beat you. The difference was Dak's legs. This will happen all year. They will fill the box, blitz/stunt. OBJ and Barkley will break a couple, maybe win a couple games. Those blitz/stunts are going to result in sacks, turnovers and penalties. We will not be executing any long drives. For those saying two games, more like 19 games, been 35 since we scored 30. This is not a knee jerk reaction.
The O-Line begins to gel and we get consistent above average play from them bc they work better as a unit. And, we have an abnormally low number of injuries.
There's no doubt the Oline must do better in order Â
for this team to get turned around. Perhaps a new Center and maybe replacement of Omameh at RG could help. I'd consider installing Pulley at Center and Greco at RG. Greco couldn't be any worse then Omameh at RG. We need someone to help stabilize that side of the line. Flowers was better last night against some stiff competiton.

You keep saying that on thread after thread, but you are completely wrong. Some people never let go of their agenda, even when shown the facts are wrong. Eli was constantly adjusting
With the two games bullshit. The offense looks exactly the same as last year. You know, when everyone said, we have no running backs and all our weapons were hurt. We have ne bajillion dollar LT, 2 new guards and a generational RB all our weapons are healthy. Our offense still sucks and looks the same. Common denominator is Eli.

forget the Jax game because they have a great front seven and they're going to manhandle a lot of teams
forget last night - Offense was out-coached and our vet staff won't let that happen again at least not to that extent.
Flowers is a natural RT who just needs time to adjust to that side after years on the left.
Hernandez benefits from from experience and becomes a true hog mollie
Solder plays like a solid vet.
Omameh starts gelling with Flowers on the right
Greco or whoever is decent at center.
So our oline isn't terrible.
Barkley sees some holes and becomes a consistent 4.5 ypc guy with a more than occasional home run which keeps defenses on their heels.
Eli gets enough time to hit OBJ who is uncoverable even by the likes of Ramsey.
Engram holds on to the ball and becomes a home-run threat.
Sheppard is the reliable slot guy who converts 3rd downs and occasionally breaks off a big play
Eli gets sacked plenty but when he has time is able to spread the ball around and minimize the turnovers
That's an offense that scores some points.
Vernon comes back on D and becomes a near top tier pass rusher.
Jenkins returns to shut-down form
Apple continues his growth giving us one of the best corner duos in the league
Snacks-Tomlinson-Hill are run stuffing studs up front.
Collins reverts to 2016 form.
Voila, a terrific defense with an offense that can run the ball and make big plays.
I know it's early but we may have a lock on the basement in our division.

2. Eli gets over hearing footsteps and make plays when there
3. Play a mediocre team that has on off day
4. When defense also steps up too..not lost in all this
