Are there any backup QB's worth exploring for next season?

DanMetroMan : 9/17/2018 9:42 am
Seems like the "consensus" around here is the NCAA crop of QB's looks very light. In my view it doesn't make sense to squander a 2nd or 3rd round pick on an "okay" talent if the big time guy isn't there. My question is.. are there any backups on other teams ie Garoppolo (regardless of if you think he's good or not) situation's to monitor/that you guys like going into 2019?

Will hold the fort down unless Kyle is it. He can also be the bridge for our top 3 QB pick next season.

So can FitzMagic and 10 other vet qbs who will be available.

The Mahomes/Watson draft was considered a bad QB draft. For all we know Herbert/Grier/ or Locke could become franchise QB's. With that said I agree that I do not want to see them take another developmental QB in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Bridgewater and tyrod come to mind

i also wouldnt mind giving rg3 a chance next year, looked good in preseason...

My point was more IF that guy isn't there with the first round pick I do not want them taking another Davis Webb-type. No knock on Webb but I hope the next QB "early pick" is a 1st round blue chip "this is our guy" type and not "we think we can build him".

Dude....RG3? I’d rather give you a shot.
Tyrod Taylor blows chunks

Brisset is one that comes to mind, but he may be too expensive. Maybe Josh Dobbs if the Steelers like Rudolph that much?
Your 2019 QB
Sammo85 : 9/17/2018 9:53 am : link
is gonna be Sam Bradford. And you’re gonna like it. Or not.
Nick Foles
BillyM : 9/17/2018 9:59 am : link
what's his contract look like? When is he a free agent. I think Teddy and Nick will be looked at.

We are in a real spot now guys. Aging qb, bad class, passed on a stud. Now end in site.

I completely agree. I don't want them taking a QB out of panic or need. My original hope was that Eli would play well though this season which would allow them to wait until 2020 to find his successor.

Outside of Mahomes, I haven’t seen anyone from the 2017 class that’s impressive, Watson hasn’t looked very good this year, could be the injury. Mahomes was also a very late riser who shot up boards late. It is atypical to gve a qb rise so late in the process like that. And who knows what Mahomes does away from Reid.

He’s a FA after this season.
I wanted Darnold in the draft
Jay on the Island : 9/17/2018 10:04 am : link
After they passed on him I moved on and supported their decision to take Barkley. I defended the decision from those who kept bringing up the debate. Now I wonder if their complaints are justified.

The season isn't over but it's not looking promising. When you really think about the decision you have to question their motive. They put their faith in a 37 year old Eli who was coming off two down years and hoped that they could fix the offensive line in one offseason. That was a really unlikely outcome that they put their faith in. I think it is fair to genuinely question if DG chose short term success while he was around over the long term future of this team.
Foles is a stop gap nothing more
Jay on the Island : 9/17/2018 10:05 am : link
If the Giants don't like the QB's in next years draft then Foles makes sense on a 1-2 year deal. Foles is also familiar with Shurmur as he had his best season with him as the OC, 27 td's 2 int.
Teddy
Toth029 : 9/17/2018 10:41 am : link
Is a Saint and they dealt a high pick for him. He isn't going anywhere. I don't see Colts giving up on Brisset just yet either.

Teddy Bridgewater
jpetuch : 9/17/2018 10:42 am : link
Release Eli and save cap $$ , get successor and play Teddy til hes ready. Might be a tough sell to Teddy although. Use $$$, draft to fix line more. A QB with mobility is essential.

I don’t know how anyone who has seen Eli play over the last 2 seasons can think we could “win now” with him being a game manager and with this OL. Eli has looked done 2 years ago.

+1. Agree completely with this.
Or they just didn't love Darnold, Allen or Rosen...

Enough to justify building the franchise around one of them...

Doubt it. They just wanted to a quick turnaround with Eli and drafting a QB to sit for a year wasn't going to achieve that goal. It was a flawed idea then and looks even more idiotic now. Colossal mistake.

The Colts were offered a 2nd round pick for Brissett recently and they rejected the offer. I wouldn't give up a 2nd for him even if they accepted it. They need to find a franchise QB not some middle of the road type.

He was mentioned a couple of weeks ago but I would love to trade a late round pick for Kyle Sloter from Minnesota. Shurmur is familiar with him from last season as well so he wouldn't take long to learn the system. If given the chance Sloter could be a find.
