Saquon Barkley - Holy Crap he's impressive!

Jim in Forest Hills : 9/17/2018 12:48 pm
He didnt run for a lot, people were in his face/legs on the wrong side of the LOS, but Im 100% convinced that with a "normal" RB Giants would have had negative yards rushing. I always say RBs should always make the 1st guy miss, Barkley delivers on this.

You see everything the Giants loved about him, he has burst, his cuts are insane and he can do it all at a huge 230lbs! Even 1st round studs like Jonathan Stewart didnt have Barkley's COD. He can catch, I believe he will learn to block. Legs like tree trunks, looks to have insane work ethic.

A true 3 down weapon, he can do short yardage, he's a homerun threat. I think he will be a true force in Shurmur's offense once the OL is fixed.

As a draft a QB guy, what a consolation prize. I think he's going to be the best back in the league. He's bigger than Gurley but looks just as fast. Id already have him over Elliot. He's actually a good value at the 6th highest paid RB.

I think he will be OROY. What a stud the Giants have in 26!
He really is impressive. A weapon.

Would love him to have a line
100+ yards from scrimmage
Leg of Theismann : 9/17/2018 12:52 pm : link
In both of his first 2 games. Can only get better from here. I don't care what people say we found ourselves a damn player and that's what you're supposed to get with the #2 overall pick.
After yesterday
gmenatlarge : 9/17/2018 12:52 pm : link
that's like so friggin' what, he too may get tired of always getting hit in the backfield. But he is impressive if only there was an O-line on this team.
He and OBJ
Coach Red Beaulieu : 9/17/2018 12:54 pm : link
Make the Giants barely watchable.
he's the only good thing about this season so far.
Heisenberg : 9/17/2018 12:54 pm : link
I wish he was running behind Diehl, Seubert, OHara, Snee and McKenzie.
I know this will turn into a bitch fest of a thread
UConn4523 : 9/17/2018 12:55 pm : link
about not taking a QB but Barkley is unlike any RB Ive seen in a long, long time. His speed, power, and agility are simply off the charts. So much fun to watch.
Hes impressive
BBelle21 : 9/17/2018 12:56 pm : link
In that he has a lot of heart of leadership. Love him. Sadly, he, like Eli and the rest of the offense, is far from impressive on the field. Trying to shine behind this Oline is fruitless. Fans are waiting to see him scare defenses which he can absolutely do. This Oline wont allow him (or Eli or Odell) to scare anyone.
Ive never been more impressed with a 2.5 ypc game.
Capt. Don : 9/17/2018 12:57 pm : link
seriously - most backs wouldve ended up with negative yardage.
He's special no doubt.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 9/17/2018 12:58 pm : link
Helluva player & will provide many highlights in the coming years.
I got a text last night from my buddy
Larry in Pencilvania : 9/17/2018 12:58 pm : link
and he said every yard Saquon picked up was on him. The line wasn't doing him any favors. He was making 1 & 2 yard gains out of losses. He was incredible
did he have any rushing attempts
giants#1 : 9/17/2018 1:05 pm : link
where he wasn't hit at or behind the LOS?
Haven't given up yet
TMS : 9/17/2018 1:07 pm : link
that these guy fix the OL somehow this year. Raiding practice squads or whatever. We will be much better in the next quarter of the season. Keep the faith.
He's a bigger version of Barry Sanders......
Simms11 : 9/17/2018 1:09 pm : link
Amazing ability, but if the Oline is not even letting him get to the LOS then it will all be for naught. Sanders was always a highlight reel too and was the only reason to tune in and watch a Detroit game.

He has to dance and juke just to get 2 yards, but he wouldn't even get to the LOS if not for his ability.
So last week for about 3 qtrs
micky : 9/17/2018 1:11 pm : link
He was being outrushed by bortles until 1 long run

This week he was even with eli in rushing for a good while

Granted, he has some moves and is generational.
He was the best player in the Draft by a large margin, IMO
Anakim : 9/17/2018 1:14 pm : link
I'll give Darnold this: he looks better than I thought he would, especially so early on. My main concern about Darnold was the turnovers. It still is a concern going forward, but I can see why Jets are so optimistic about his future.

But I would still take Saquon Barkley at #2. Sorry. And yes, I realize we're in a shitty position. I realize Saquon can't get anything going with these sorry-ass "blockers." I realize Eli is all but done and we don't really have an heir apparent. But if I'm going to take a franchise QB, I better be damn sure I'm in love with him. I better not be taking no Mitchell Trubisky or Blake Bortles. I better be convinced that he can win my team some Super Bowls and he can play at a high level for many years to come. Sorry, but I wasn't convinced of that with any of the QBs this year.

Darnold was the only QB I was interested in drafting. I probably would have taken him over Barkley, but am fine with the latter. The bigger question is whether I would have traded down, knowing that some team would pay a fortune to get either. My concern at this point is that Barkley's career will be stunted until the OL is fixed. As others have noted, he isn't getting any blocking, and in fact is frequently met in the backfield by multiple defenders.
I was wrong on Saquon
Stan in LA : 9/17/2018 1:29 pm : link
He does not go down easily. He is a special RB.
Collinsworth
DanMetroMan : 9/17/2018 1:30 pm : link
isn't that easy to impress and he sees a LOT of video and he seemed absolutely smitten with Barkley. The Giants have a nearly finished QB, a truly awful OL. Barkley (if he stays healthy) will be special.
Rating system
Simms : 9/17/2018 1:37 pm : link
How do they break down rating a player RB vs a QB in the draft?

He won't be as effective. Correct. It's reminiscent of Todd Gurley in his sophomore year. He had a terrible statistical year because his O-Line was Swiss cheese. Then they signed Andrew Whitworth, who may have been the best FA pickup of 2017 and John Sullivan, and Gurley had his best season thus far.
But has he made the offense worse?
Vanzetti : 9/17/2018 1:50 pm : link
I agree he has been good individually. But using Odell as a blocker to set up swing passes to Barkley? Doesn't seem the best use of personnel to me.

The question is though, why did you ever so aggressively believe he did in the first place? What was the evidence?
He'd win rookie of the year easy
moespree : 9/17/2018 1:52 pm : link
If he was behind an even average line. Forget good line, even an average one. He is really talented. I hope they don't waste it in the years to come.
Incredible talent, just like Beckham

So the concern is we may have TOO MUCH talent on offense?

Well of course Odell is going to be a blocker. He's a starting WR! What would you have him to do on a pitch to Saquon? If you take Odell out of the game, you're telling the defense that you're going to give Saquon the ball.

By my count, Barkley broke the first tackler's attempt on 12/25 of his touches. (Includes carries where he had no blocking or catches where he had defenders right in his face)
Barkley, like Beckham

is like a nice shiny toy which we can't play with because the O-line once again is bad, not NFL bad, not NCAA bad but high school bad and can't handle a simple stunt...pathetic!

Apparently Stan doesn't need to provide evidence to prove his point. He can be completely wrong and still stick to his conflicting opinion, even when others give him the facts. It's a gift he has.

We can't?

He has over 100 yards from scrimmage in all 3 games so far.

The line isn't great, but this is a dumb post and it doesn't sound like you watched any of the game yesterday.

I am guessing he didn't watch the game yesterday being that his post was from 9/20.....

arcarsenal : 9/24/2018 6:48 pm : link
I didn't see that.

Even still, the Dallas disaster aside - did he not have an impact on the JAX game? He rushed for 106 yards and a score. The post is still silly and makes no sense.

that between Barkley & Beckham, the Giants are worth the watch. I'd add Shepard and Manning to yesterday's game.

I know Shep had a dumb penalty but otherwise, he was stellar.
I'm 58 and have never seen a RB like SB.
IF we only had a good OL

This is what I think too. We could still put a functional line together this year and let Eli and the backs do their jobs. It's early.
Yes he is.
Keith : 9/25/2018 8:37 am : link
He's only going to get better too. Very exciting player to watch.
Barkley averaged 4.8 YPC
RollBlue : 9/25/2018 10:02 am : link
Gallman averaged 4.2 YPC - just saying.
And darkwa was 4.4 ypc last year
UConn4523 : 9/25/2018 10:07 am : link
and is still a FA. YPC, like many stats, is worthless without context.
