First two games of 2007....as the Giants learned and adjusted to Spagnuolo's new defensive scheme, they got torched against the Cowboys and were non-competitive and got blown out at home by Green Bay.
They also looked lost for the first three quarters at Washington the following week, before the famous goal line stand turned the tide.
I bring this up not to say that this team has Super Bowl level talent - only that with a new coaching staff (as with the 07 defense under Spagnuolo), it sometimes takes a little while to adjust to a new coaching scheme.
I don't think this team is headed back for 3-13. I am optimistic (perhaps unrealistically so) that the OL will begin to play better and learn from their mistakes.
Am I delusional? Maybe. Do I even believe what I'm writing? Eh - somewhat. But if anyone here wants to cling to anything, we can start with this team's relatively recent history.
Flame away.
I think I said 7-9 before the year started. Looking increasingly unlikely.
But I'm curious to see what we were saying on BBI after the Packers game in 2007.
It looks like BBI's archives go back to 2007, but I can't quickly search for those threads.
I lived through the 70s, it's not as bad as that yet, but: I keep saying that every year, and then the Giants have another lousy year. Put enough lousy years together in a row and yeah, it's like the 70s.
Gettleman was supposed to be the new George Young, and Shurmur the new Ray Perkins. We'll see. All that presumes that John Mara is the new Wellington Mara, in a good way. (Having grown up in that era, I never had the warm feelings most Giants had for Wellington Mara, much as fans now in their teens and 20s are likely to lack warm feelings for John Mara and Steve Tisch.)

Wellington Mara was inept at football operations, at one point was drafting players based on their writeups in Street and Smith's draft preview, and generally ran the franchise into the ground, ultimately necessitating the NFL imposing George Young as GM to avoid further embarrassment to one of the NFL's flagship franchises.
To be fair the defense looked like a fatal floor that year.

This team does and it's hard to believe it's going to get better. Further, we just lost a starter.

Flaw.
