Most QB's get sacked by one player who breaks through, bends the edge, or bull rushes over a guy. As a result, with one guy in pursuit, you can often shift up, spin, or shift laterally to avoid the sack. Brady is king at this.
In Eli's case, he is literally getting sacked by the ENTIRE line, everyone. It must be maddening for the stat guy, because how do you even decipher who got the reported sack? Or does he just record "sack" "whole line."
I re-watched the "highlights" last night. When given even a little time, Eli can still hit targets with arm strength; he is not dead in the arm by any stretch. But unfortunately, in many crucial moments, it's just pure jailbreak.
Add to it, we have fullbacks and TE's whiffing on plays. Shurmur needs to up the stakes this week. If you are asked to pass protect and help the o line and you whiff, pack your damn bags or have a bag ready, enough bullshit. Shane Smith has pretty much one job, block. Total whiffs last night, multiple times. Rhett Ellison comes in and gets a holding penalty on the 10 yard line. Game could have been 13-7 in the 3rd.
No more nice guy from Shurmur, time to up the stakes. Jobs are on the line. Embarrassing for all of them, including Solder. I actually think Flowers played the best out of all of them.
The interior is what hurt the most. All stunts.
We're on our 3rd coaching staff and you still think it's just a matter of coaching?
Browns reject sad to say....
They were crushed yesterday on stunts, on play calling, not just brute force.
The week before our RT never new a DE was a speed rusher until the first play.
It is absolutely not coaching alone. It's talent, or lack thereof more than anything. But you can coach guys up. That is not happening here even slightly.
