Saquon Barkley is a freak of nature

Dave in PA : 9/17/2018 5:47 pm
Yea yea I know, the team sucks, should have drafted Darnold, QB hell etc etc. Barkley is the only enjoyable aspect of this team right now and his skills are tremendous. Tiki Barber was a great running back, but he never pulled off some of these left trigger moves that Barkley does. This kid really is similar to Barry Sanders. The first guy on the scene is getting juked out of his pants. Whenever he plays for a good team he’s going to absolutely dominate. Not exactly breaking news, but at least he’s the goods. Have to enjoy what’s actually enjoyable (not much as it turns out)

A heck of a talent. Unfortunately, I think that talent will be wasted on this team.

In hindsight, the fantasy move would have been to trade up for Mahomes in 2017 have exactly the same season as last year and walk away with both Barkley and Mahomes. I’m not sure if this trade would have required the Giants 2018 first rounder, but one can dream.

Probably would have required our 2018 1st rounder. I can't imagine what the trade would be without that. But yeah agreed that would have been ideal, although it's sad to think about the fact that even if we did that it would still be pointless today because we still would have a completely incompetent o-line.

Just for the record though I still have not completely given up hope on this season.
This OL would have turned Darnold into David Carr.
LauderdaleMatty : 9/17/2018 6:14 pm : link
Not sure there’s a single QB in the NFL who can play at a high level with this OL

Barkley is a freak. They need to go TWO TE and figure out how to run otherwise Sunday night will be the norm and this team will actually have another top 5 pick and can grab a QB next year for those who are upset they didn’t go QB
You Know Who Else Was a Freak of Nature...
Jim in Tampa : 9/17/2018 6:15 pm : link
And an all-time great RB?

Barry Sanders.

In his 10 yrs with the Lions Barry's starting QBs were Rodney Pete, Scott Mitchell and Charlie Batch.

Sanders won one playoff game in his NFL career.

Hopefully Barkley will win a lot more.
tiki never did what??

He looks
rocco8112 : 9/17/2018 6:38 pm : link
real good and when he gets stronger in an NFL program he will be a monster.

I know many are pissed the team did not take a QB, but this guy is yhe goods and the Giants will likely be picking top four this upcoming draft.
This OL is human gatbage
Coach Red Beaulieu : 9/17/2018 6:44 pm : link
And WORSE than last year. At least Gallman wasn't being met in the backfield by a dlineman every play.

Barkley was the best player in this draft
BillT : 9/17/2018 7:04 pm : link
And probably one of the better prospects to come out of college football ever. A freak, a beast, whatever. And that said, it might have still been a better call to draft a QB because the position you play matters. That said this team, it seems, was going to be a mess no matter. So, do you want a mess with the future st RB or the future at QB?

speaking of Mahomes
santacruzom : 9/17/2018 7:14 pm : link
Anyone recall how he was ranked as a QB prospect heading into the 2016 collegiate season? I have a feeling it wasn't as a top 15 pick.

Just something to keep in mind when we're all declaring that the 2019 draft is totally bereft of worthy QB prospects.

we've seen from Barkley so far, he's justified all the hype. Maybe by the end of the year we can say he's the new Barry Sanders but bigger.

That draft was supposed to be weak for QBs but got is Watson and Mahomes.
and weren't both Watson and Mahomes
santacruzom : 9/17/2018 7:32 pm : link
drafted by teams trading up to get them?

Damn, maybe you really *can* get a QB even if you don't use a top 5 pick in 2018 to get one.

Also worth mentioning that this time last year no one had Mayfield as a first round pick. Even after the super bowl, mocks had him as a late first rounder then the guy went #1 overall.

Uh no they weren’t trading up for mahomes and keeping their 2018 pick. And talent is never really wasted. You either possess the talented player or you don’t. I’m glad we have Barkley. You should be too.

Does every post about Barkley have to turn into the qb narrative? Every one?

Mahomes isn’t throwing 10 tds this month in this offense let alone over two weeks.

We probably aren't going to win
Big Rick in FL : 9/18/2018 6:52 am : link
More then 4 games anyway this year. So we will most likely have a shot at guys like Herbert, Stidham, Lock etc etc
Saquon is obviously a huge talent
Oscar : 9/18/2018 7:05 am : link
And seems like a great kid. Other factors aside you would love to have him on any team. But positional value is important to consider. Running backs are easily replaceable and have very short careers. Saquon will likely be finished in 8/9 years, while Darnold will have another 8/9 years to play.

C'mon, just get a time machine, find out who will be great and who will be a bust and we will never make a mistake drafting.

That's because Ol Andy didn't draft a QB and build a team around them. He's been building that team for a few years & THEN added the QB.
