Was the OL for the worst OL in the league consistently when he coached the Colts.

But hey, Jim McNally oversaw a pretty shitty O-Line in 2003 and we consider him to be a pretty damn good O-Line coach.
Shit happens
McNally got absolute shit in terms of resources. Here, we have a well paid LT, a 2nd round draft pick that was a few selections away from the first round, and a mid-tier LG FA. No comparison to what McNally had to work with back then.

Ian Allen was pretty terrible. I mean he makes Ereck Flowers look good by comparison. And Jeff Hatch was an absolute waste of a third round pick.
“I can say one thing about this running game. It’s going to be physical up front. It’s going to be a physical running game, it’s not going to be a finesse running game. It’s going to be a physical running game and it’s going to be a multiple running game. It’s going to take advantage of the personnel that we have,” Hunter said.
“We’ll see what our guys do best. We probably won’t know exactly what we’re going to hang our hat on until we come out of camp.”
and even our beloved Rich Seubert was a UDFA, who played well above his paygrade even after that nasty injury.
The Giants MO of underpaying for OL resources started then and seemed to change somewhat when TC came around (paid top dollars for KM, drafted Snee in RD2). McNally actually did a decent job making chicken salad out of chicken shit, and I think that spoiled the Giants into believing they could get away with it long term.
but I was not excited to have Hunter coming in. I was happy to be rid of everyone on last year's staff. The addition by subtraction wears off when the addition was in charge of a terrible OL himself.
they also need talent to work with. Looks like he was the OL coach for the Chargers from 2006-2011 which were some successful offenses. So while yes his one season as the OL coach with the Colts (2015) and one season as OL coach with the Browns (2016) aren't terribly impressive it's not like he doesn't have a body of work either.
It's game two with a new group of payers thrown together. Hopefully things will improve at some point.
Was it Flaherty's fault that Richburg was always driven into the backfield in pass protection? Or that John Jerry never could run block?
Same with Hunter. Right now Omameh looks like a stiff; signing this journeyman was a pure reaction to losing out on Norwell, but I'd say that for all Jerry's many faults, he was a better OG than Omameh.

McNally did a masterful job in 2002. He had Petitgout moving to LT, UDFA’s Seubert, Bober, and Whittle as his interior and a former 5th round pick Rosenthal playing RT. That line played extremely well and was a huge surprise. They were expected to be the worst line in football.

SUP FOOLS
Yeah, we've had Solari, Flaherty and Hunter in recent years. But it's the coaching, not the talent.
Amazing.
