I have not posted in quite a while but as a person that has been attending all of the home games since 1974, some away games and 5 Superbowls with our guys, I felt that I should express an opinion on the current problems.
I have been in the Chalktalks that the Giants sponsor twice per year and have heard David Diehl describe the problems getting an OL to gel, based on the current CBA and the lack of actual practice time. He should know, and he has said that it might take 3 years for a new person to completely meld with the OL scheme and reads. He was referring to a rookie as the worst case, and we do have Hernandez in that category. I think we do have to give the new OL line and coach some time. I carefully observed Flowers last night and he was far from the worst blocker out there. So, even he can improve! Eli had an average of 1.85 seconds to throw, before having to move or get buried. I had a stopwatch on him all night and by comparison Dak had an average of 3.1 seconds before having to move his set position or decide to run. I do not know enough about OL techniques to comment on the apparent inability to pick up blitzers, but it does seem to be a matter of developing communication. I think that Greco at center will help and hope he calls the signals for the blocking.
Defensively, we look pretty good, and will be lots better when OV returns (whenever he does).
I think a new Oline unit

should play the majority of preseason together. The lower risk of injury is outweighed by the potential benefits of the added time together as a unit.
Can some knowledgeable comment

On why it takes so long for an OL to "gel"?
Well, the viking last year did it in one offseason

It seems the bengals did it this year....so it's possible.

The Giants have 3 of the 5 in new position....a 4th a rookie. Solder being the only one who has remained at his spot at LT. So yes, it will take time but the stunts up the middle has been a problem since the 1st preseason game and it's still occurring.....that is an unacceptable problem.
Good Post
