The way things are unfolding, never too early to talk DRAFT

M.S. : 9/18/2018 1:45 pm
An O-line that can't block; a front 7 that can't rush the passer, and what do you have?

A 2019 CBS Sports Mock Draft that has the Giants picking first.

We lose in Houston this Sunday, and the first selection is very much in this team's reach.

I only wish they were reaching with a brand new ownership team.

And that is what is infuriating. Even in the best case scenarios for this season, Eli is 38 at the end of it.

In 32 years I have never been more worried about the future of the team.
I hate to say it but we might have already drafted the QB

Even Darnold wasn't a Darnold-type prospect in January of this year.

It's so premature to label any of these guys as not top of draft caliber talents. CBS Sports has Finley at #10 overall right now and Lock at #17 on their Big Board. Last year they had Baker Mayfield at 34 and QB#5.

had Sam Darnold as the 7th best prospect, Josh Allen at #9, Josh Rosen at #21, Baker Mayfield at #22, and Lamar Jackson at #23.

If Lock or Finley, etc are considered top 10 picks, it's not going to matter if you take them #1 or #8. FFS we don't even know where we're going to be picking yet.

Lester... trying to generate a little diversion after the first two games. I am more than looking forward to changing my posts after the Giants start winning. I've been a fan for over 50 years and I root for them through thick and thin. But I'm also a realist, and I NO LIKE what I'm seeing at the LOS... both sides of the ball. But here's to a victory down in Houston... GO GIANTS!

Collins is no sure thing unless he keeps his mouth shut and let his play speak for himself. So far, he has been the opposite.

This year's meltdown already had the expectation that next year's QB class was going to be poor built into it. So long as they don't do something crazy (like take the top rated WR) it's hard to imagine people will be that angry.

Grier, and for some reason, not many scouts are elevating Kyler Murray or Dwayne Haskins. Those two are big time wildcards. Murray, who is supposed to go right into pro baseball after this season, I wonder if he changes his tune if he's talked about as a top prospect. That guy is like a faster Russell Wilson.

But when all is said and done, I don't think Lock and Herbert are going to be first round picks.

I think it's lack of sample size with Murray and Haskins, at this point, they're green. Really like Herbert but he's a year behind now after the knee. They're green prospects. I'm wary of the one-read passers like Lock. To me, there's no top 10 QB so far.
Haskins stepped in last year against Michigan,
barens : 9/18/2018 3:51 pm : link
one of the best defenses in college football, and they couldn't stop him. It's still a small sample size, but there are going to be plenty more big games for him to prove his merit.

Same goes for Murray.

Either way, call me crazy, but pending on where they are drafting next year, I'd be most happy with an offensive lineman.
It's a good start
JonC : 9/18/2018 3:54 pm : link
but Haskins reminds me of Cardale Young, there's a long way to go and I'm not sure he gets there.

Looks like some choice DL rising to the top so far.

Assuming this thing train wrecks and the NYG are inside the top 5 (again), I'll be quite content with Bosa, Oliver, the best Clemson DL (could be 2-3 guys), or Greg Little.

Ideally, if someone wanted to move up, I'd absolutely trade down and try and net a 2020 first rounder in the event the NYG need ammo to try and move up to secure a potential franchise QB (Jake Fromm, perhaps).

Still WAY too early to speculate today. There are plenty of games to lose between now and week 17.

The 2017 draft was supposed to stink to, and that produced Mahomes and Watson, who look to be STARS.

I am really interested in somehow landing Tyree Jackson, QB Buffalo, who I am sure will be talked about as a first round pick by next spring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKxNAyvQEvg

This draft has very very strong OL talent at T
DavidinBMNY : 9/18/2018 4:55 pm : link
I wouldn't be surprised if 3 of top 10 picks are OL in this draft.

Regardless after years of not investing well in the OL we have to continue to put high draft capital towards the OL.

Murray is 100% playing MLB. A’s drafted him #9. He’s 5’10”. He’s playing baseball.
Those who want to put a rookie qb behind this oline are truly cruel.
SterlingArcher : 9/18/2018 6:36 pm : link
Remember what happened to David Carr, he played behind a horrible, lousy oline and got he the hell beat out of him, the same thing will happen to a rookie qb that gets drafted by the Giants. You know the scenario, the Giants draft a qb, he plays behind a crap oline, gets beat up, throws picks, and you can be sure after 3 games he will be labeled a bust.

Well played, Sir! Could the Giants refuse to put in Lauletta for the reason you stated. It's a bitter pill to swallow... but why let a newby get pummeled when we have a 37 year old guy to take the punishment?

I said ''go OL, 1st, 2nd 3rd rounds.''

You guys laughed.

But it's a consideration. Same logic, would you want to start lauletta, or whomever, behind this line?
It would really be something
bceagle05 : 9/18/2018 9:27 pm : link
if we had top five picks in consecutive years and passed on QBs both times.
I also suggested, before the shurm.hire
idiotsavant : 9/18/2018 9:27 pm : link
Steal Falcons OL positional coach (worked under shanny and stayed) as OC.

And build O around that system.

With all those new picks and free agents to Match it.

Not down on this group though. Too early.
If we are talking about 2019 rookie QBs
allstarjim : 9/18/2018 9:46 pm : link
Then we will still have Eli under contract next year, and it's another off-season to improve the line, there is no reason not to take a QB first next year. You can't assume next year's rookie QB would be behind [I]this[i/] line, especially when that rookie QB might not be playing right away.

Personally, I would not have a problem with putting Lauletta in this year if the season is mathematically over. You should see what you have, and this line can improve as the season progresses.
The good news for the Giants
Leg of Theismann : 9/19/2018 1:39 am : link
Is that all the bad teams in the NFL right now are pretty much set at QB. There are 7 0-2 teams and all of them eithe rjust drafted a QB or have a young(ish) QB under a massive contra Actually if you look around the NFL there just aren't many teams in general looking for a QB I don't think, so I think it's very possible that the Giants could be in a position to nab whoeever emerges as the top of the '19 QB class. I have a hard time believing there isn't going to be at least one franchise starter that comes out of the '19 draft (although I suppose it has happened before, more often than not there is a guy that emerges as someone being worth a top 10 pick, and I think the Giants will be in a position to take him if not trade up and get him.

I am 100% behind this line of thinking. If we were able to trade back and get a 2020 first round pick + others then we must do that.
