-Really poor game by Shane Smith. He allowed 2 sacks against the blitz-happy Dallas defense. He was on the field for 4 plays. He allowed 2 sacks. If he can’t block, there is no point in him being on this team

This is bad. I thought Smith was supposed to be a good blocker.

I thought the same thing, if he cannot block, what good is he?

What bothers me most is that he was obviously not a very good blocker in the little action he saw last year. He has a hard time finding his man doesn’t have great feet and gets zero push. His plays werenwhen someone was right in front of him and he just sort of got in there way. There was nothing to suggest that he was good, or that there was room for improvement in his game. It was obvious, it should have been addressed.
played at all as a fullback with the Cards, just as a running back. I believe he's a big guy with good speed, but never broke into the top 3 RBs on the team.
Smith made the final cut in 2 seasons and what does he bring to the table? Looks like pretty much nothing
By the way, if Penny does not block, what the hell is Gettleman doing wasting his time on another RB? He’d have to be an incredible ST player. Is he a returner?

Totally - even to me as non-expert observer it was apparent he was terrible. I can't see him getting a jersey other then for special teams and he probably is now the guy , barring other moves, whose slot will go for Mauro, and financially speaking, they may not want to bring someone else on the 53 for 2 weeks. Although they could choose to be more aggressive and use all 53 , with a tight cap they just might go week to week or forgo filling that spot.
is no video anywhere of this guy blocking and he never played the position of FB before so this is a strange signing if he was brought in to replace Smith since there are dozens of FBs out on the market right now.
Any NFL back is expected to be able to pick up a blitz Stewart is 240 pounds Penny is a big man As far as I am concerned they can put them both in the backfield and send out Engram Shepard and OBJ
backs who can catch. Maybe that was why Shane Smith was on the roster. But the level of ineptitude he showed on blitz pickups means he should not be in the NFL.
This guy seems like a nice enough kid, hopefully he does better.

He's always been a RB but they moved him to FB/TE in the offseason. Not sure the reason why.

That will still leave a roster spot open after Halapio goes on IR.
This might be the easiest position to bring in talent since most don't use a FB and college is full of them

He returned 15 kickoffs in college for 278 yards.

Penny - ( New Window )
Syracuse with as many wins this year as the Giants have so far this season and last year combined. Just saying.
He's not gone...yet
Hopefully the new guy can catch AND block.
