He's live right now with Francesa and so many non-answers and this is very awkward, can't really transcribe right now but it's reminding me a little of McAdoo interviews last season.....not a good feeling
This is why I said the Dallas game was a must win. Because this is what's going to happen now. Things are going to start spiraling completely out of control very quickly.
This team needed an early season win in the worst way. And if they still can't get it Sunday, this season is going to get very ugly.
RE: the importance some people place on fucking INTERVIEWS is hilarious
This is awkward, bizarre and Shurmur is giving people absolutely zero insight right now. No one expects him to throw anyone under the bus but hes not elaborating on anything at all and sounds bothered to have to be talking about anything .

I agree. A win last Sunday and BBI would have flipped 180.
yet many fed into that horseshit. I watched Shurmur after the game Sunday Night and I don't know how anyone could feel good about that if they were so hung up on McAdoo's pressers.
As I posted on another thread. He like DG was clueless how bad this OL is. Trading Jones was comical too. But the fact he was on board with the RB and didn't even think much of Darnold makes you wonder. Not saying he is incompetent but let's be honest this OL most of us thought wasn't going to be any good.
AND DG and Shurmur were not impressed with Darnold. Hopefully this is just minor growing pains.
It's probably the realization that between the OL and QB play, he's not going to be able to fix this thing anytime soon and he's in for a really long year of this. I'm guessing he didn't have a ton of say in the matter.
This team is in trouble. And if they fall to 0-3, all bets are really off.
That was the voice of a coach who looks at his OL, sees they're not getting it done because they lack talent, and understands that NO coach in the league has an answer for this.
Why has Solder collapsed? Hernandez looked beastly. Omameh started for an AFC Championship game team. We know Flowers has nothing.
he gave entertaining press conferences and interviews like Gruden!!
No, but displaying some confidence right now would've been nice. Giants have 3 wins in their last 20 games, last thing we need is for the leader of the team to sound defeated. Doesn't provide much hope to an already dismal situation.
Yeah NY reporters will

Call him out on his evasive answers and flat out lies like his answer to the third down throws short of the sticks yesterday.
the players and coaches are just trying not to get trapped into saying something that will blow up in their faces. There's no news or anything worth listening to or discussing.
But I do think the loss last week was more than just another loss where you say onto Houston. The Giants were shattered in that game. Eli got old in the ring for you old boxing fans and the new coaching staff got completely undressed.
Any Giant fan that doesn't think this franchise is in full crisis mode is fooling themselves. Last weeks game might be the only meaningful game the Giants will play to until 2019 if they lose again this week. If they're 1-4 or 0-5 when they play the Eagles it will have been.
Sounds like he is choosing non-answers over confrontational answers, which makes sense. Too soon to be getting into a back and forth with the media. He gets that they have a job to do, but he has problems of his own.
What's important isn't how he sounds to the media, what's important is how he sounds to the players. It's to the players that he needs to have answers, not the fans.
Can't read too much into an interview, nor can you project anything
Francesa did not hold back and Shurmur wasn't giving much, but did it in a very soft-spoken manner, which I guess is not the sort of rah-rah, confidence-inspiring response people probably would react better to.
want him to say? Do you want him to throw people under the bus? Can just see it - Well Omameh and Flowers can't block and pick up stunts...Solder is an over paid average LT...Eli is shell shocked, cant throw an accurate short pass...Ogletree can't cover RBs and slot receivers....???
Is that what you want?
The fascination with driving a coach into the ground after two games is pathetic. Two weeks ago, he was refreshing and open; now he is at a loss for words, or incompetent.
I just happened to be in the car for 5 minutes as that was getting started - Francesa correctly compared it to having a tooth pulled at the dentist.
Not that his ability to interview is any indication of what kind of coach he is - but given that's a part of the job, that did not go well at all, and it's somewhat concerning.
Bottom line Mike makes the point we all really want to know. I don't always agree with Mike but hit the nail on the head for me. This team is as loaded as any team in the entire NFL with not one not two but three guys who can take it to the house on any given play yet teams don't seem to be intimidated at their production in the least and is the worse in the league.
So this is permitted now? Or are you just better than the rest of us?

How close would you say it was to...say...Bob Costas interviewing Jerry Sandusky?
It sounded more like Brett Kavanaugh trying to answer questions about his views on abortion.
It's people whining like this about any hint of a political comment that created the atmosphere where Eric was motivated to ban them entirely in the first place.

I don't think he had to go that route - but he was so vanilla, he basically limited himself to 'we need to get better'.
There's a lot of ground in between 'couldn't do anything because my linemen are garbage' and 'we just need to execute better'. Shit, he could have fallen on the sword himself and blamed himself and come up with a couple of things he would do differently if he wanted to deflect.

Hmm. Kinda sounds like EVERY BB press conference ever.
And spare me the bullshit argument of BB earning the right to do so. He was a gruff, short answered ass from the beginning.
I was the first guy to call him milquetoast when we hired him, but what do you expect him to say? He's a former offensive lineman. He knows what the problem is. There is no magic bullet to fix it. The players we have aren't very good up front.
Last weeks game might be the only meaningful game the Giants will play to until 2019 if they lose again this week. If they're 1-4 or 0-5 when they play the Eagles it will have been.
Wait, if they lose next week's game then last week's game will be the only one that matters? Does this game matter? If not, why preface your statement with if? Also, what about the other three games that must be played to get to 1-4 or 0-5?
This team needed an early season win in the worst way. And if they still can't get it Sunday, this season is going to get very ugly.
I understand your point Greg, but it's his tone throughout the whole interview. He sounds like a guy who just had to put his dog down.

I agree. A win last Sunday and BBI would have flipped 180.
Shurmur wouldn't give an answer.
One exchange (paraphrasing)
Francesa: "The fans are trying to figure this out. Why are you guys 30th in yards per play?"
Shurmur: "We just have to get better."
??
With more losses, this is only going to get worse.
Is giving the fat pig "insight" in an interview going to help the Giants play better? No? Then who gives a shit?
AND DG and Shurmur were not impressed with Darnold. Hopefully this is just minor growing pains.

Did you think he was going to come on and rip into the team and say jow the line sucks and the quarterback sucks?
remember the media hated coughlin to qhen he first got here, hell the players did not like him either

No, but he does sound like a coach who is searching for answers right now. To me that's alarming.

It wasn't that bad. The questions were very reasonable. Nothing that was unfair or outrageous.

Oh brother. I was just trying to give a current example of someone struggling with answers and being evasive. It was meant in a lighthearted way.
If it makes you feel better, run to the BBI content police and report me. Guilty.

If Pat Shurmur cant say something nice about a player, he wont say anything at all. Publicly. Some guys are like that.
The problem is when he lacks honesty and answers in front of the team, not when he does it on the radio or at press conferences.

right now yiu got beckham, collins, ogletree and snacks all posting on social media that they are working to fix this and will make it right...

but but but the beat writers are going to kill him
We all know thats the bottom line.
The rest is just filler.
His choice of clothing may mean something significant
I was impressed when he said that the team played awful but that the coaching staff knew what was wrong and that it would be corrected.
He guaranteed that there would be improvement and that players who did not proscribe to his expectations would be gone
There are times when coaches have to assign accountability
