99 is back.
Chappy set to return tomorrow, I believe.
Boston in town.
It's go time.
We had some ugly bottom 3rds for a while. Not anymore. No more easy outs.
We're getting healthy at the right time. Let's get on a run here.
Hopefully Happ burnishes his Sawx killer credentials tonight, too.

He does. It's unbelievable how much he changes the lineup. If fact I can't remember the last time he put the same one out two games in a row.
To me it shows a lack of feel for his own team, and it's like he's still searching and learning about them. By now he should pretty much be set with who bats where give or take the occasional change.
It's almost as if he's trying to be innovative ala LaRussa or Maddon but it looks more like he's still trying to figure things out. It doesn't exactly exude confidence for me.

Hoping for a liiiiiittle more consistency now that we're pretty much at full strength again.

Me too but I doubt we get it.
He might play the same guys more often now but I'm sure he's going to bounce a few guys around the order.
He should be. On top of the passed ball that should never happen, the pitch was a strike taboot! Gary botching it so bad even threw the HP IMO off.
It's one thing to not be good at balls in the dirt but I've never seen a starting MLB catcher have so much trouble actually catching pitches. It's unreal to me how bad he is at what we all take for granted what a catcher should be able to do.
Happ pitching well. Let's get him some help please..
I’d spend the whole offseason making him a 1B and finding a defensive catcher. Solves a few problems.
Jeez.
Jeez.
Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. Watching the Yankees offense feels like watching the Giants offense. They should be scoring more and doing more but they’re not and it’s so frustrating. It just makes me want to watch something else.
Happ pitching well. Let's get him some help please..
Yeah it would've been nice if those two weren't hit right at guys but I totally agree with you. Just seeing him make hard contact on Eovaldi is a good sign and what I was hoping to see from him.
Happ should be pitching a shutout, and he's been a great pickup by Cashman.

He can hardly move behind the plate and you want him patrolling third? No way.
Unless of course you're in jokey mode.
Guy deserves better than he's gotten tonight. He's money and looks like a NYY type pitcher to me. Digs deep when the going gets tough and isn't fazed by much. Even his catcher totally screwing him, he still only gave up the one run then on the sac fly.
To me it's either Tanaka or him getting the ball in the WC game and I'd feel comfortable with either.

Right now, I am resigning this guy for next year.
The Yankees do it often, making some high ERA guy look like an allstar...

Yeah I'd be all for that too. Offer him 2-3 years at a nice number and maybe it gets done.
years
years
Trade him to the Dodgers.
Eovaldi is not good. This is crazy.

arc, they have been playing this way since just after the all star break. Like they have holes in their bats...
Probably Andujar or Torres needs to rescue them.
Yes, WC gets the best record regardless of division of the WC winner.

I guess when we're playing the Red Sox, we are going to have to assume we will catch zero fucking breaks.

I know, I just can't understand it. This lineup is too good to have so much trouble against bad pitchers this often.
Marcus Thames should probably not keep his job if this continues and turns into a play-in game loss.
We have to get on the board right now.

play the Sox in the ALDS?

Thanks section. BoSox Yanks ALDS would be fun. I'll be up in New England back to back weekends in October so I'll definitely be watching some postseason baseball.
Boone moving batters around is annoying. Is it analytics setting up the order? I sometimes feel not having a defined batting spot is detrimental.
As Walker comes thru with the 2nd deck job.
Me too. At first glance tonight I thought both Miggy and Gleyber should be batting higher. Get your best, hottest hitters as many AB's as you can.
Hopefully he figures that out come the postseason.
Watching that you couldn't tell the Sox are the ones with the big lead in the Division.
Piss poor job by Hicks there. Not a good play and an even worse look.
Sure looks like it..or he doesn't like to pitch to lefties.
Andujar?
Dude. Good lord.
That was Hechaverria, not Andujar.
You've got almost no clue what's going on. I've witnessed it for months.
Boone really has this team on point. Can't throw or catch.

Whatever happens from here, they have to go into spring training with a different attitude about defense than this year. This may be the worst defensive team I've ever seen.
Sad part was the extra pitches Britton had the throw so he may not be available tomorrow..
Plenty of sloppy pussy over the years. Took that too.
I'm a big fan but he needs to clean his defense up.
Any win is a good win and maybe that gets them off the snide.

Andujar?
You're on a roll tonight.

He will..he will nonchalant a few here and there. Just have to clean up Andujar.

Is that an official rebuke?
What is wrong with Andujar? Probably ROY

You claimed he committed the error at third in the 9th.
As usual, you're wrong. And it's getting old.

He did, on the 1st attempt of the double play.
Again. You're wrong. It's a pattern and a habit. Stop.
I did, it was given to Torres... that will likely be changed.
But did not see Hechavarria was in until I looked at the box..
Anyway, glad you back...

Really impressive.

I don't know man. You're regularly wrong about stuff and misinformed. It's a habit. Hate to see it. I like your passion for the Yanks but come on bro. Let's all get better together.

Based on what exactly?
There's more of a chance that it will be changed to an error on Andujar despite the fact that he was sitting on the bench.
Fuckin triple lindy tonight. Wow.
Sad trombone. :(
Go Angels.

Next spring? If the old man were still alive, those guys would've been out there AFTER the game working on defense. He'd have gone stark raving bugfuck seeing some of the defensive miscues this year.
Plenty of sloppy pussy over the years. Took that too.
I missed you, old guy.
3 in the loss but it's really more like 4 because if they finish tied, the Yanks win the tie breaker and get the WC 1.
Still plenty of time and they just have to keep winning.
Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the Yanks 4-game series down there in that joke of a ballpark, playing the Rays as good as that are playing. Hell, I never look forward to watching games played there but the Rays could throw a big monkey wrench into the whole scenario.
History, baby!
Kudos to Britton. Kinda spiked the throw to 2nd but the guy induced 3 DP balls and got out of an inning where the Red Sox essentially had 5 outs. Not easy to do.
Chappy should be back today. Betances was not needed. So we still have some ammo left back there.
Wish we were less reliant on the long ball. Hard to remember many recent instances of big innings where the ball stayed in the park. But a W is a W and runs are runs however you get them. Just hoping we can get a few more innings where we string together some hits. It's tough to rely on the bloop and blast so often.
Unspeakably bad - ( New Window )
That's interesting - I wouldn't have guessed it, and that team did win the division. I don't recall that team having all the passed balls, dropped throws, etc. like we saw last night. But it was a pretty old team and I guess their ranges were limited. It was Jorge at C, ARod, Jeter, Cano and Tino in the infield, and Hideki, Bernie and Sheffield in the OF. Other than Cano, none of them was young at that point, mostly over 30.
I agree. It's a long season for some of these kids in their first year. The errors are as you describe. A great young ballplayer will realize his miscues and put in extra work in the off-season. I think this defense will be better next year.
