Eric Dickerson comment

mdthedream : 9/19/2018 12:47 pm
When Eric Dickerson released a statement calling for an annual salary for Hall of Famers, he didn’t say what that salary should be. But now he has given a dollar amount of $300,000 annually.

“If it was up to me, I think every Hall of Famer would get about $300,000 a year. That would, I think, be a proper number,” Dickerson told TMZ.

That’s an annual salary Dickerson is asking for, for each Hall of Famer, just for being in the Hall of Fame. TMZ notes that if Dickerson also wants players’ families to benefit after the Hall of Famer dies (and that seems to be Dickerson’s plan, as Reggie White’s widow was one of the signers of his statement), that would come out to more than $95 million a year in payments to Hall of Famers.

I am like what are you talking about? Why should the Hall of fame give out $330K A year?
$300k annually is ridiculous

but the NFL does make money from the HOF and so inductees should get something since they're the reason anyone visits. Either a one time bonus (maybe they already get this?) or an annual residual that's a percentage of the revenue generated.
It wont happen so I am not sure it is worth arguing about

but there are a lot of old timers out there really struggling financially. They had a significant hand in making the NFL the cash cow it is today but did not play long enough to see the financial benefits. Future value profit sharing so to speak.

I dont think it will happen but that could be a reason.

Every former player would sue like crazy. The process of getting into the hall of fame is subjective. There are a ton of guys right on the fringe that will never get in.
I think the NFL should have a pension program
Jay on the Island : 9/19/2018 12:53 pm : link
and lifetime healthcare for anyone who plays a certain numbers of games in the NFL. 300K is a lot of money though. MLB players, if they are on a roster for only 43 days, earn a pension with a minimum of $34,000 a year and a maximum value of 220,000.

Those numbers seem fair to me.
Why only Hall of Famers?
figgy2989 : 9/19/2018 12:54 pm : link
That would lead to a lot more issues for former NFL players.
Christ....

Dickerson is STILL bitching about the money. His entire career was defined by the money bitching. Keep at it there Eric..:

The guy alientated so many teammates and really impacted his career with the constant and endless money squabbling.
He’s not asking the HOF for the money
BigBlueShock : 9/19/2018 12:58 pm : link
All of the living HOFers are asking the NFL/NFLPA for it. They want not only 300,000 annually, but also lifetime health insurance after they retire. They have petitioned the NFL and say they will not attend any further HOF induction ceremonies until they get it.

I completely agree with them on the health insurance issue. Except that I think every vested player should get it, just like every other sport does. The NFLs issue is that their union sucks and they should have collectively bargained this in, but they always cave to the owners.
exactly
mdthedream : 9/19/2018 12:58 pm : link
a pension plan is a different story. The Hall of Fame is not making a lot of money. Hell if they paid that much it would just close down.

This is a much better idea.
Yes
mdthedream : 9/19/2018 1:02 pm : link
that is something the Union and the players should fight for.
Bull Shit ....

the average NFL career is 3.3 years. All of the players are paid at least hundreds of thousands each year, many are millionaires. They work a handful of years and make way more than what the average Joe on the street makes (more than what many will make in their entire life), and they want to receive a $300k paycheck for life. If they pissed away their NFL earnings, they can get a job like the rest of poor slobs. They all leave the NFL young enough to build a new career and work as productive members of society.
why do HOFers deserve this special treatment
Rocky369 : 9/19/2018 1:56 pm : link
and not the other guy that had his career cut short with life threatening injuries? I don't like the guaranteed salaries because you already see what that does with a A. Hayensworth type situation. But the baseball model, which I wasn't aware of until this article surfaced, is very intriguing. Moderate pension, since you will be at least somewhat limited with lingering injuries, and insurance for giving up your prime years for entertainment purposes.
F you Eric

You went to college for free, you made a shit ton of money playing a game, you get to be on TV for a ton of money, you're famous, you're rich and you can keep making money off of your god given skill and hard work. STFU. You have already made and continue to make more than 99% of the people on this planet who struggle to make ends meet but you have the audacity to claim you DESERVE money for doing nothing any longer?

It's about replaceable services, how much would I have to pay someone to do your job? Well, what is your job? Do you promote the NFL? Do you promote the hall of fame? How easy is it to replace what you do, that's how you determine your worth. Every year more are inducted which adds to the pool of folks who could do your job. The fact is, you don't provide a service, you don't generate revenue, you don't, as people in my business say, cover your own nut. You don't deserve a penny except for going and WORKING now at a job in which you work hard for. You dick.

I think they do have a pension plan. When the Goldmans sued OJ - I thought I read that was the only thing they could not touch .... his pension?

I believe they do have this, don't they? I thought I remember Phil Simms receiving a hefty check every month for playing so many years.

34K a year, for just 43 days in MLB, is ridiculous....but hey, I wouldn't turn it down.
BTW...if you did do something like this...
BillKo : 9/19/2018 2:02 pm : link
...it wouldn't be for just HOF'ers, simply because the HOF is SUBJECTIVE.

That's why stuff like this is usually based on something very measurable, like years of service.

Outlandish request by ED............
The NFL doesn't have a Hall of Fame
Rico : 9/19/2018 2:02 pm : link
The Pro Football HOF in Canton is not owned or operated by the NFL, and it doesn't generate a lot of money.

.

I would agree with the pension plan aspect and healthcare, baseball for example
has a pension plan after 5 years accrued in the majors.
I think something similar to that, but I wouldn't devise a plan JUST for Hall of Famers,
that part is a bit ludicrous.
The rest of the ex-players can fend for themselves, doesn't quite work that way.
Funny how it works

Dickerson is asking for money now, but if you asked the NFLPA (when he was playing) to share the money with retired vets, the answer would have been no. He knows that, too.

Even more so today. The NFLPA does not care about vets, so why should the NFL?
Donate proceeds from HOF weekend

To the fund they created for retired players in need.
I would think Dickerson could live off of the money ...

What do you think a pension is?
