“Jimmy Butler has requested a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves, league sources tell me and @JonKrawczynski. Butler has given Minnesota a list of one-to-three teams with whom he's open to signing extension, in anticipation of trade.”
won't be that juggernaut people expected. Butler will soon be out of there, and KAT doesn't seem thrilled to be there either. Wiggins is pretty good, but nothing special.
Knocks out 2 Big contracts in Lee and Hardaway and a 2nd. Mills won’t give up the future aka no Knox and no 1sts. Nobody is taking on Noah’s contract so Mills will either cut him or let his contract play out.
RE: RE: RE: RE: Jimmy Butler isn't the level of star that commands this Â
Porzingas, Knox, Frank and this years #1 are the future. Keep your cap space. That’s a very young core. Someone actually worth a max deal will want to come and play here with them when the time is right.

I tend to lean this way too, though it's tough to pass up Kyrie, Butler, Knox and KP after all the garbage we've watched over the years. It's a huge gamble to think we could do better a year or two later.
In trading frank, lee, and a 1st for jimmy butler. I would do lee, hardaway and a 2nd and I would not extend butler. I would solely take that trade to rid ourselves of hardaway and lee. I would then move butler at trade deadline and try to include Noah to a team like Sacramento for literally expiring contracts. I have no interest in butler from ages 29-34 at $40 million bag per year. He is not worth it. Stay the course find a trade partner for lee at some point even if it costs a second rounder. He will much easier to move after dec 15th. Get s high lottery pick and sign a max guy this offseason if you can. And if you can’t so be it just let all this young guys grow together.
Clippers is butler’s first choice. They can make deal work. Like I said I am all for the trade to the Knicks as long as we don’t extend him and lee hardaway, Mudiay and 2nd rounder are includes.
Report surfacing that Butler slept with KAT's girlfriend. Â
Kyrie and Klay instead of Butler (pipe dream I know). To be honest I would just let the kids play, move Lee and Thomas at or near the deadline and just get a lottery pick. Have another solid pick and a bunch of $$ the next two years to make a splash
Trade idea where knicks are third team not getting Butler Â
Obviously Minnesota Doesn’t care about where jimmy butler wants to go, they just want the best deal. Thibs will obviously want to stay competitive because his job is on the line after this trade Happens. What if knicks help facilitate a deal to Sacramento in 3 team trade. Knicks send Lee, Hardaway and a Charlotte second rounder to Mindy, Sacaremenro sends hiedl or Justin Jackson with a protected first that becomes 2 2nds after a few years. Knicks take back an expiring contract or 2 from Sac and expirings from Minny to make it work.
Sac gets butler relatively cheap and it would be his team which he wants. If at trade deadline he has no interest in signing the extension then trade him and recoup some assets even if 50 cents on the dollar. Sac would be a perfect fit for him with all of that young talent.
Minnesota while not a great deal gets a young SG who may still be improving in Hardaway, a seasoned efficient vet in Lee, a young player from Sac and some picks. I know it’s not the greatest deal, but they are not getting much from teams knowing that he is going to walk.
For knicks this would be a dream scenario, I think with a stretched Noah, buyout of Thomas, not exercising Mudiay, not extending Zinger until after free agency and signing another lottery pick would lead to 2 max slots or pretty close to 2 slots. While there was a recent twitter person stating KD is going to the Lakers. There was another guy reporting today that Kyrie and KD are headed to the Knicks. This would be the absolute dream scenario and extremely unlikely, but still fun to talk about.
If that scenario played out and Zinger was healthy I would think the Knicks would go from the bottom to top 5 NBA contender assuming all of the young talent develops.
Is the one who is saying that everyone in the industry who has the inside scoop thinks KD and Kyrie are going to the Knicks. Link included. Kyrie and KD to Knicks - ( New Window )
Obviously, the future first would have to be protected. That's a deal I could do. The question is less about whether this is too much to give up (it isn't) and more about if Jimmy Butler is a good enough player/person to bring into your franchise? I'm not his biggest fan as he seems to bring drama everywhere he goes. His behavior with Fred Hoiberg was ridiculous and now he want's to be traded from Thibs' team?
plus a most likely top 3-5 pick. Although you most likely have to dump an asset to get rid of THJR to sign both durant and irving. This will never happen, i mean, its the knicks.
won't be that juggernaut people expected. Butler will soon be out of there, and KAT doesn't seem thrilled to be there either. Wiggins is pretty good, but nothing special.
Going after Butler right now would show a real lack of long term sustainable planning. Very happy to hear they aren't interested in any trades.
Not going after Butler is the correct move. While there is no question that he is immensely talented, there is a reason why he is now looking at his third team in as many years- and it all has to do with the person Butler looks at in the mirror every morning.
The Knicks are embarking on a plan to build a TEAM, granted a team of talented players, but a TEAM. Butler has no idea of what a team looks like or how to be part of one. He thinks team means the name on the front of the uniform and how he is that team.
In many way, I think that the rumors that the Knicks primary target is Irving fits into that entire idea. While Irving clearly wants to be "the man," he has demonstrated for years- both in Cleveland and Boston- that he is willing to work within a system and not have to be option A, B and C.
In other words, he can come to NY and would be willing to be part of the system as opposed to demanding that he be the system.
While I don't think KD comes to NY (as much as his agent would like him to), he has also demonstrated that he can "fit" into a system as opposed to demanding the system be change to fit his game. In many ways, that is why I think that while Russell Westbrook might be one of the 5 best individual players in the game, he will never win an NBA title because he cannot accept not being in absolute control.
Something that has been largely overlooked about LeBron is how he understands on the court that he needs 4 other guys to work together with him to win. Yes, he can always take over the game for stretches- but when facing other top teams, he knows he needs his team working together to win. He may not be a good GM (stars rarely are- look at MJ), but he understands the need for 5 players working toward a common goal, with the understanding that he needs to occasionally take over.
Pros:
- Immediately makes us competitive
- Almost guarantee's another star coming
- Increases chance of winning a championship soon
Cons:
- Trading assets
- Would have to re-sign to max contract
- Already 29 y/o with injury history

what a weird list.
all teams he can team up with kyrie at..

Is it? He wants to go to a big market. New York and Los Angeles...
But no draft picks or young talent.
Wolves need to get this done before tip off or it will be a diaster.

I agree. Toss in his history as a malcontent, and culture-building teams like the Knicks and Nets should stay far away.

Sprinkle in some diminishing knee cartilage to boot.

I'm guessing he knows that's completely unrealistic

Last season, Butler was 4th in the league on ESPN's real +/-.

Not that I think he's a bad player. He's a legitimate all star. But he's not a franchise-changing player IMO.
Lauri and Wendell.
Learn to love em’!!
i love frank but done deal for me as long as the first is not this year...
it still allows you to add a max...
kyrie
tim
jimmy
knox
kp
To me thats 3 big assets. The 1, Frank and the max cap slot Butler will require.
Pass.

no it doesnt, that trade allows you to basically add 2 maxes to kp
can never cant out riley but they really have some bad contracts
Question for you NYG16. In all serious
Would you rather have Kyrie and Butler with injury histories or wait a year and go all out on Anthony Davis
I would love a lineup of in 2020
Davis
KP
Knox
2019 Lottery draft pick Shooting Guard
Frank
Bench
Robinson
Hezonja if he signs
Burke
And another mid level FA
I worry about giving Butler and Kyrie max contracts
And Davis is better than both of them
Which I can’t inagjne being that appealing at all
Nice that guys want to play for bk though

Wiggins is completely overrated.
And ridiculously overpaid. Wiggins basically puts up Tim Hardaway-level non-scoring stats and with a worse true shooting percentage.
