Yes but they had two open spots when they released Smith. One left after signing Penny

Don�t they? I�d think the CBA would be clear about this.

I like the notion of an open roster if you have a salary cap.

If you can pay 150 guys $1M each, so be it.

Also, I believe the only impact of not having 53-men on the roster is that any 3rd year practice squad players are free to go to any other practice squad (vs the only way otherwise they leave your PS is to another teams 53-man) - or something like that.
