...the best chance of winning.
But if the O-line does not get its act together pronto, I think it's fair to ask:
Do we want to send our 2-time Super MVP out there to get eaten alive? This guy is no spring chicken and at some point in time his health and general well being should be taken into consideration.
Which then begs the unfortunate question: Who do we feed to the wolves: Tanney or Lauletta?
I am so glad coaches don't think like this. I can just imagine having the conversation at a conference table with all the other coaches. "Gentleman, I am worried Eli might be taking too many hits. We should put a sacrificial lamb out there instead. And, while we are on the subject, we should bench Barkley the rest of the year. Are we all in agreement?"
If that is the mentality then they might as well sign someone they dislike like Dez Bryant and have him start at QB the rest of the year.

I agree the scenario is absurd and that the conversation would never come up inside the Giants, but I am really serious about Eli. He looked dazed, beaten and confused in Dallas, and I saw YA Tittle get the shit kicked out of him and I prefer it not happing to Eli. I realize this isn't a "football argument." But Eli deserves better than going out battered and abused. That will happen if our O-line doesn't find some answers in the next couple of weeks.
You're probably right. Then, again, he may not feel that way if the next half dozen games go like Dallas and he's thrown around like a rag doll play after play.
If you're looking toward the future it has to be Lauletta.
Perhaps the Giants should be primarily concerned with winning football games and doing what's best for the organization instead of giving Eli Manning what he "deserves." It's also funny that last year we were told Eli could not be benched (even if just to see what other players on the roster could do in meaningless games) because he "deserved better" and now we're told Eli should be benched because he "deserves better."
Eli is like an angel sent down from heaven who is just too good for this world.

Well, I hear ya... and I know where you're coming from. All I can say is that:
1) I am not an Eli apologist and over the years I have at times excoriated his play;
2) This is an emotional issue; not an objective football issue;
3) Translation -- I don't want to see a 37 year old QB get the stuffing kicked out of him because our owner and management can't fix a 6-year glaring, in your face O-line problem.
You bench Manning so we can get a top three draft choice, hopefully the qb we should have drafted this year.

Please try not to speak...
Really showed kind of an out of touchness coaching staff.
I would like to see Kapernick behind this oline for the lulz.
My suggestion (implied) is that we wait a few games, and if things don't improve with the O-line (which means little real chance of the playoffs), then we "rest" Eli Manning.
Is there some kind of law against posting "Eli's Done" threads on BBI? Cuz I've been checking all week, and haven't seen one yet. And I can't possibly be the only one who feels this way.
PLAYOFFS?! You're talking about playoffs?
First they have to start winning in the regular season to qualify for mentioning the playoffs. This team is a few years away from that chance. They won't be a contender until Eli retires, and that ain't happening anytime soon.
In other words, we Giants fans are fucked!
-Half of BBI, August 2018
This "confidence" that so many here had that Eli would somehow bounce back after two bad years, and at the age of 37 no less, appeared then and now to be based on nothing but hope.
"If we can just fix the OL and get a stud RB to help Eli he'll revert back to his 2011 form, right?"
Rooting for you to prove your doubters like me wrong, Eli.
But if Giants' fans are looking for someone else to start at QB this year (baring injury) they can forget it. There's no one but Eli.
They’ve turned this organization inside out for Eli
+1, absolutely right, we knew what Eli was two years ago, an aging, immobile QB who can still sling it IF...YOU...GIVE...HIM...TIME!
They’ve turned this organization inside out for Eli
Yup espec after last yrs Eli benching there was no way we were going after an available Bridgewater for ex.
Him getting taken behind the woodshed is not good for the future or present.
I figured this team was good for 6 wins, hopefully Manning doesn't get injured. They look a lot like last year's 3 win team.
Imagine how this goes with the normal rate of injury. If the Giants lose any starter at the skills positions it will be dire.
