BOOM.

Suck on that, motherfuckers.

Love the Hicksie.
Boston’s bullpen is so shaky

And it’s going to cost them in the playoffs. Can’t believe they didn’t add there at the deadline

Judge return? May be a stretch but my confidence is higher having him back and I'm not playing.

Let them bitch. Andujar's fly to Death Valley was over the Monster in Fenway, but just an out in the Bronx.

Yep never hear anything about all the lazy fly balls that turn into doubles and homers in their place. Plus last I checked both teams play in the same park

I'm very relieved to see Sevy look lights out against a real MLB offense. Looks like he's getting back to normal.

First inning had me a little bit anxious but he’s looked great overall. Huge.

Love the emotion from Sevy on striking Betts out. GREAT outing tonight.

I think it's safe to say Judge is fairly important to this team

Yup. It's been a good night all around but nothing bigger than Sevy's performance. Look d to me like he picked up here he left off last time out when he was pitching well, got into trouble and was pissed to be taken out.

I thought he brought that attitude right back into this one, and seemed to have an edge to him all night. Good to see.

Might not be a bad time to get Chapman an inning tonight. Get some of that rust off.
And Sevy hasn't had an outing like this in a long time
Greg from LI : 9/19/2018 9:52 pm : link
First time he's pitched into the seventh while allowing fewer than 2 runs since July 1.

was working well for Sevy. Really good bite on most of the sliders.
Man, fingers crossed that he has it solved.

Sevy, Tanaka and Happ is a pretty solid post season rotation. Throw CC and Lynn as a duo in a fourth game, may not be bad.

getting Betts to ground into a DP..Cannot imagine the butterflies...

What a first start for the kid
beatrixkiddo : 9/19/2018 10:31 pm : link
Loads bases up with one out. Nearly gives up a grand slam to Betts, come aback next pitch to get him to hit into the DP to end the game. I felt like I was riding that rollercoaster with him, you could see how nervous yet excited he was to be out there. Can’t wait to see him in the starting rotation next year.
Luke Voit -

I think this is true, also..
Judge is a massive influence
B in ALB : 9/19/2018 11:21 pm : link
in this lineup. He's already the leader of this team. His presence can't be understated. It's a completely different team with him there regardless of his success or failure at the dish.
Agree with that.
Del Shofner : 9/19/2018 11:34 pm : link
Changing the subject, every time I hear Miggy's Yankee rookie hitting stats discussed, Joe DiMaggio is also in the discussion. Homers and doubles, I guess, but not a bad two categories to be compared to Joe D.
Best night for the Yanks in months
Stu11 : 9/20/2018 8:26 am : link
That Neil Walker bomb Tuesday was the biggest hit they've had in months and I think it loosened the team up a lot. Tonight's game is really big. Hopefully Tanaka can keep it going, with the birds coming in this weekend maybe just maybe we can get on a little roll here. Its been a bizarre season watching three teams around us- The Sox all season, and Tampa/Oakland for months now go on these stretches where they just don't lose.
Just..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/20/2018 8:33 am : link
hold on to a home game in the WC and force a west coast team to come this way.

Then we'll have to hope for a run like last year. Tanaka and Sevy are rounding into playoff form.

While he didn't get the result last time out, Sevy has looked dominate at times in 2 straight outings.
Decision of who to start in the WC game
bigbluehoya : 9/20/2018 8:43 am : link
Is tough.

For a while Tanaka seemed like the no-brainer seeing how good and consistent he has been lately. PBut Sevy seems to be rounding back into top form.

Matchup wise, Oakland’s reliance on the longball may favor Sevy as the better matchup.

Overall, I think I’m just a hair more comfortable with Tanaka at this stage. But it’s close.

At this point Happ has to be in the conversation too. Pitched superb for months now and was great vs. Oakland his a few weeks ago.
Hold those thoughts on the SP until after the series in Boston
rich in DC : 9/20/2018 10:32 am : link
We have now seen Happ and Sevy shut down the Sox- in NY.

Assuming that the Yanks keep a 5 man rotation though the end of the season, the staff is set up so that the last three games of the season against Boston would be Happ, Sevy and Tanaka.

IF (big if) the Yanks keep that rotation, since the WC game is on Wednesday, October 3, of the big 3, only Happ would be on normal rest for the WC game.

On the other hand, if the 3 game set in Boston ends out being meaningless- or if the WC home game is set one way or the other before the last 2 games, the Yanks MIGHT play with the rotation.

Option #1- skip Sevy and Tanaka's starts (if the games are meaningless, you can start Sheffield and Adams) and make go with Tanaka in the WC game.

Option #2- skip Sevy and Tanaka's starts and have Sevy pitch the WV game.

Option #3- allow Sevy and Tanaka to make their last starts of the season against Boston and go with Happ in the WC game.

fun fact
Greg from LI : 9/20/2018 10:51 am : link
If Voit hits one more homer this year, he'll have 10, which would make the Yankees the first team ever to have 12 players with double-digit homers.
Four more from Sanchez...
Milton : 9/20/2018 11:40 am : link
...would give them seven players with 20 or more HRs.
.
arcarsenal : 9/20/2018 11:54 am : link
Judge is the heart and soul of this lineup. He changes everything.

Getting him back was so, so important.

Locked and fucking loaded now. Let's sweep it up tonight and make these assholes wait another day to put up their crappy, lost banner.
that only ties a record though
Greg from LI : 9/20/2018 11:56 am : link
Even only ties the team record: four teams, including the 2009 Yankees, had seven 20 homer hitters (other being 2005 Texas, 2000 Toronto, 1996 Baltimore).
Severino starts the WC game......
Keith : 9/20/2018 12:20 pm : link
Tanaka gets game 1, Happ game 2. Severino game 3.
I wonder if this is still the worst,
Keith : 9/20/2018 12:21 pm : link
most borning, least likable 90 win team in history now?
Boston being so left handed heavy
Kyle in NY : 9/20/2018 12:25 pm : link
in their rotation is a real advantage for us in a potential ALDS match up. Now 6-2 against them at Yankee Stadium this season too
7-8 against Boston overall this season.
bceagle05 : 9/20/2018 12:26 pm : link
It'd be nice to tie it up tonight.
