When you think, the Giants are dead and buried.....the OL played well enough.
Texas D-line had their moments but the OL did not let that control of game.
Wheeler wasn't perfect (in fact he wasn't really even that good, but he did play against JJ Watt), but at least he was competent and tried out there. Flowers blows and has a shitty attitude to boot. Fuck that guy, and I say that as a Miami Hurricanes fan. Flowers was, is and always will be garbage.
But we're getting eaten alive when the defense blitzes. They need to work on that specifically and have a quicker read downfield or something because when they faced a blitz, so many of the plays were pressure/sack or check down.
By rushing only 4 and playing standard run defense they gave the offense life. When they did that we scored 20. When they brought pressure in the 2nd half we scored 7. Thank you.
I never really got the criticism of Wynn. He's not much of a pass rusher but he set the edge probably better than anyone we have, and in this system where he's just DE he's a very decent if a bit one dimensional player. And he's paid buttons. If he's the 45th player on your roster it's not a bad thing given the fact he's also a good special teamer.

I’m happy but I’m not ignoring the obvious either.
much better than an 0-3 start, not much of an upgrade at RT, but they got a W.
Offense looked good in the first half, good late drive.
Any news on Snacks, was holding his head late in the game on the bench, as the camera showed. Engram has a knee...
Barkley is one hell of a good receiver. I’ve never seen a Giants RB with that ability. That catch by the goal line on the last drive was beautiful.
That was a great catch and Shurmur is definitely a guy willing to take risks as that was 3rd down and 1. They could have just handed the ball to Barkley there, but it was a great call as it worked.
Eli was extremely accurate.
Barkley ran well, and caught a critical pass on the last TD drive.
The run D was excellent, and we forced two turnovers. Wynn and Harrison had monster games. Carter, Hill, and Edwards were also solid.
The OL opened some holes.
Covered Hopkins and Fuller well, despite only having three CBs.
Rosas was terrific.
Negatives.
No downfield plays.
The OL seemed to collapse in the second half, magnified by Eli's immobility. Wheeler was absolutely abused by Watt the entire day.
Muffed a punt, and of course no return yardage.
Too conservative on many plays. Four consecutive punts in the second half, including after each TO.
Didn't give Wheeler help on every pass play. He should rarely have been left alone on JJ Watt.
Couldn't defend the middle of the field.
Had trouble keeping contain.
Was very good today, hats off to him. I must admit I did not believe he had it in him anymore. That last touchdown Drive is what has been missing from his repertoire. Now we just need some consistency let's do it some more. Playing very meaningful game next week, 2 and 2 changes everything. 1 and 3 will suck. Great job.

If Shepard didn’t drop Eli’s pass in the Jax game then who knows, maybe they’d have scored a TD & beaten Jax.
Against Dallas the OL was a complete disaster and Eli could not establish a rhythm.
Second highest completion percentage in Eli’s career.

It's been burdened by the fact that the offense up until this point hasn't done well maintaining drives and controlling the clock. I'm excited to see the potential of the defense if they can get healthy with Vernon and Apply being available.

Love the rookie impact. This draft one of best in years.
I'm sure I saw him out there but didn't hear his name called often if at all. Good job by the line taking him out of the game.
It appeared that the Giants gave Solder help with him during most of the game. If people are wondering why Wheeler was mostly left alone against JJ Watt, that's likely the biggest reason why.
That last drive to nail it was vintage. The team as a whole does need to play better, this Texans team may be pretty bad. This is a step in the right direction though.
I'm optimistic for next week, we could be catching the Saints at the perfect time after this OT game.
I'm sure I saw him out there but didn't hear his name called often if at all. Good job by the line taking him out of the game.
Blew up a couple of plays if you count the Solder holding that negated the OBJ first down in the 3rd quarter (I think that was him). Other than that very quiet. Not sure he was healthy.
“Eli got me Hyped up!” “He told me in the huddle, you catch this we win”
Wow he is a rah rah guy! Fuck Boomer and his ass clown Gio playing the Andy Griffith theme song every time they play a quote from Eli!
He got time today and he played the way he CAN play, when protected!
Our immobile toasted QB just beat one of the highly touted "mobile" QBs. And did so by being fucking clutch
Clutch and protected and pinpoint throws. Who says he can't do it anymore!??? Listening on the Sirius sports on the way back from the game, two announcers were giving out the scores and when the guy gave the Giants score he said in an I-told-you-so attitude, "See what happens when you give Eli some protection." YESSSSSS!
this team shows it really wants to win!!It was a step in the right direction and they're nowhere near perfection, but at the end of the day it was fun to watch this game!!!
Eli played great and the defense did a great job against the Texas horrible OL they are actually worse than ours. Great job now let’s put a streak together. Go Giants!

Texans had the top rushing offense in the league but their OL is the worst in the league?
The win is great, but now we have to worry about Â
This week they used all their weapons and SB got his yards in the flow of the offense
Great job by Shurmur and Shula. It would have been esasy to crawl under a rock and just try to run the ball a lot after last week's breakdowns in pass pro. But they came out attacking and spread the ball around
I truly had no idea whether they were going to pass or run most downs. They really mixed it up

Did you see how pumped up Eli was after the TD? I fucking love Eli. Always have, always will.
B.J. Hill mentioned. His bull-rush on the LT and subsequent sack of Watson was bully beautiful. He absolutely ran over the LT who looked 2x Hill's size.

Barkley, Hernandez, Carter and Hill have the makings of a damn good draft class. Obviously Lauletta is a wild card. That's a huge positive in a sea of negativity over the past few years.

The offense looked better than it has all year. In the third quarter, Shurmur’s playcalling seemed to get needlessly conservative. It is a good thing that the Giants scored that TD near game end (sole points of the second half) because we would have been staring at a record of 0-3.
Shurmur seems to have the same tendency McAdoo had as HC-offensive playcaller: to put the burden of victory on the defense when the team has have even a marginal lead. I this game, the Texans had an unanswered TD and FG in the second half until the Giants finally scored. I hope my obsevation is incorrect, but only time will tell.
we’re also still having problems covering TEs and RBs. I know we got a pick today covering the RB, but for the most part, it’s been bad. Next week we have a very difficult offense coming in to defend. Thankfully the game is in our stadium, but even that may not be enough to secure a win against that explosive Offense. Bree’s looks like a kid out there still?! A win next week against another conference opponent would be HUGE and put us right back into the mix. The NFC is not a great conference. The only team I see really making noise is the Rams.
Wheeler wasn't perfect (in fact he wasn't really even that good, but he did play against JJ Watt), but at least he was competent and tried out there. Flowers blows and has a shitty attitude to boot. Fuck that guy, and I say that as a Miami Hurricanes fan. Flowers was, is and always will be garbage.
the difference being that Wheeler gets beat in 2 seconds while Flowers gets beat immediately. Those two seconds make a world of difference.

Doesn't it seem like every season, no matter who we have out there playing or who is the coach or who is the DC, the other teams TEs and WRs are ALWAYS left running WIDE OPEN down the middle of the field especially late with the game on the line?
F'in ponderous
An nyg game I always remember fondly was another road win in houston back in 2010. That Texans team was actually pretty good at the time they played each other in early October. Texans were 3-1. Giants rolled in their and destroyed them. Texans bounced back one week later but the wheels inevitably fell off and they limped to a 6-10 record. Giants went 10-6 and that was one of the bigger more impressive wins of that season, early on. Maybe history repeats..
For me, the issue was never Sam Darnold vs. Barkley. It was always Josh Allen vs. Barkley. We will know as the season moves along (and certainly by next year) whether the Giants should have taken Allen rather than Barkley. Barkley is a great talent, but I wanted Allen.
I have to think they aren't eager to even have him on the roster as a backup.
Would they actually cut him mid week?
Given his experience and the lack of o-line depth, they'd be stupid to cut him now. If Wheeler goes down, they need someone to go in there who wasn't literally pulled off the street and handed a jersey

Oddly enough, Allen was the 1 QB I didn't want. I see a Webb clone in him.

Are you not watching other games? It’s the whole league not just the Giants, it’s the way the game is played now.
we split our 230lb RB with sequoia tree trunks for legs out wide and converted an easy 15yd completion to him to essentially ice the game.
That was the most enjoyable Giants offensive play I've seen in what feels like forever. THAT was why we drafted this guy. The part that really excites me is how confident Shurmur must have been in Barkley's abilities to dial that call up in such a crucial situation.
Also, I believe Barkley running a deep route is what opened up the left sideline so much for Shepard to start that final drive off with his big catch and run.
Barkley is a great receiver but his "record-breaking" 14 catch performance last week felt hollow. He didn't record as many catches this week, but it felt so awesome to see his receiving ability make such a substantial impact on the Game-Icing Drive today.

I almost think our best passing look should be to line up early with Barkley in the back field, then split him out late where he's essentially one on one with a LB. We generally have decent mismatches in the slot with Beckham or Shepard, if Engram is there leaking from the TE spot then spreading out should be murder for the defense.
Flowers doesn’t move on unless they have an alternative. Â
but was Wheeler working as the starting RT all week in practice?
I read somewhere that he was.
Thanks, if Flowers was working with the starters all week and then was benched for the game it would say to me that something happened in either the locker room or in team meetings. Flowers can either learn from this and work harder in the event that he gets on the field again or he can just continue doing what he has been doing. Hopefully Wheeler can improve as the season progresses so that he is a real solid option to remain the starter next season. That would allow the Giants to focus on upgrading RG and C during the offseason.
...amazing the multiplicative power of Eli, OBJ and Barkley when the O-line performs well!
Defense stoned the run and two VERY HUGE turnovers at critical moments in second half when the tide was turning.
A fantastic win that feels like a million bucks.
One small quibble... would sure like to see our defense cover someone over the middle. And how high are the safeties playing... at times looked like center field outside the ballpark.
One last thing... Texas has a fucking punk ass secondary with their fucking submarine knee hits. Giants should have gone after these bastards.

Did you see what Allen did today against Minnesota? I don't think he resembled Webb all that much. More like Elway.

Blew up a couple of plays if you count the Solder holding that negated the OBJ first down in the 3rd quarter (I think that was him). Other than that very quiet. Not sure he was healthy.
*Thought Shurmur had 2 tactical screw ups that couldve costed the Giants big: rushing the play before the 2 minute warning in the 1st half
And
*Not running Barkley from under center after the OBJ 1st down in the 4th quarter.
Shurmur knows football but he’s an inexperienced HC who didnt look like he had a feel for closing out a win.
Wow he is a rah rah guy! Fuck Boomer and his ass clown Gio playing the Andy Griffith theme song every time they play a quote from Eli!
He got time today and he played the way he CAN play, when protected!

I don’t understand this last comment. The TD drive by the Giants sealed the win.
Go Giants
LOL!
I'm not worried about Washington. I'm worried about Snacks. If he's healthy, AP isn't a factor when they meet up.
Great job by Shurmur and Shula. It would have been esasy to crawl under a rock and just try to run the ball a lot after last week's breakdowns in pass pro. But they came out attacking and spread the ball around
I truly had no idea whether they were going to pass or run most downs. They really mixed it up
This
And a very good thing it is!
Tiki was a terrific receiver

Did you see how pumped up Eli was after the TD? I fucking love Eli. Always have, always will.
Agree. Heard all about this during training camp. Glad to see them incorporating it.
Defense seems like it is for real. Not ‘86 or ‘07 but looks like its a stout unit. Next week vs Brees should be a real good measuring stick.
Team showed some balls i did not think it had. Hopefully they can build off this and shut people like me up.
This is what scared me the most going into the game. Very impressed with how they played. Jackrabbit was fantastic today.
Hill looks like a keeper. The three big dudes up front have been as good as advertised.
Barkley, Hernandez, Carter and Hill have the makings of a damn good draft class. Obviously Lauletta is a wild card. That's a huge positive in a sea of negativity over the past few years.

Barkley is one hell of a good receiver. I’ve never seen a Giants RB with that ability. That catch by the goal line on the last drive was beautiful.
Tiki was a terrific receiver
He wasn’t even close to Barkley in terms of receiving skills.

I hope my obsevation is incorrect, but only time will tell.
road game, young mobile QB with a dangerous WR core and were down a starting CB. Last years team doesn't win that matchup.
Also rookie right tackle going up against a future HOF pass rusher who was getting snaps off to rest.
Also a big fuck you if you said Eli was the problem.

by not benching Flowers in the first place?
Wheeler wasn't perfect (in fact he wasn't really even that good, but he did play against JJ Watt), but at least he was competent and tried out there. Flowers blows and has a shitty attitude to boot. Fuck that guy, and I say that as a Miami Hurricanes fan. Flowers was, is and always will be garbage.
Doesn't it seem like every season, no matter who we have out there playing or who is the coach or who is the DC, the other teams TEs and WRs are ALWAYS left running WIDE OPEN down the middle of the field especially late with the game on the line?
F'in ponderous
Fucking pathetic pussies.
To be fair, he did... we just tore them apart more!
Would they actually cut him mid week?

Sam Darnold. Needs to be said every thread
LOL!
For me, the issue was never Sam Darnold vs. Barkley. It was always Josh Allen vs. Barkley. We will know as the season moves along (and certainly by next year) whether the Giants should have taken Allen rather than Barkley. Barkley is a great talent, but I wanted Allen.
I read somewhere that he was.

Given his experience and the lack of o-line depth, they'd be stupid to cut him now. If Wheeler goes down, they need someone to go in there who wasn't literally pulled off the street and handed a jersey

Oddly enough, Allen was the 1 QB I didn't want. I see a Webb clone in him.

we’re also still having problems covering TEs and RBs.

Are you not watching other games? It’s the whole league not just the Giants, it’s the way the game is played now.
DBs played well today
Would they actually cut him mid week?
Have him backup the tackles and maybe try him out at guard during practice.

We generally have decent mismatches in the slot with Beckham or Shepard, if Engram is there leaking from the TE spot then spreading out should be murder for the defense.

but was Wheeler working as the starting RT all week in practice?
Giants should have gone after these bastards.

we split our 230lb RB with sequoia tree trunks for legs out wide and converted an easy 15yd completion to him to essentially ice the game.

I love SB getting passes downfield rather than dumpoffs.
Nice win today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
