Another myth I've seen repeated here on BBI. In fact, this one started (from what I can tell) as several BBIers saying that Snacks was sitting out the fourth quarter, and has morphed into statements that he didn't play the second half and that's why NO had such success running the ball. I posted this in another thread, but figured it deserved it's own to help put to rest the inaccuracies believed here.
Snacks played on both drives of the 3rd quarter including when Kamara ran for 18 yards and later for 9 yds and a TD.
He played most of the running downs in the fourth quarter too. Yes - he was subbed out half way through one TD drive (about 7 minutes remaining) but he was back into the game at crunch time, including when they had Brees backed onto the goal line. Remember the non-tripping call on the goal line with about 3 minutes or so remaining? He was on the field for that play, commanding attention from the center, giving Tomlinson the gap into towards Brees. In fact it was the center who was double-teaming Snacks and realized that DT was breaking through who turned late and tripped DT.
With 2:30 left he was on the field when Kamara ran for 9 yds.
In fact, a couple of plays later he was double-teamed by the center and LG when Kamara went into the hole at RG for 49 yds and a TD.
Other than kneel-downs, that was the final drive NO had in the game.
That's 85 rushing yds gained in the second half when Snacks was on the field, and I'm not including yds from every play Snacks played, just some of the bigger runs.
It's a shame how many myths get thrown out there and aren't true. Lots of fans noticed him not on the field for parts of the second half - generally he comes off during passing downs and at times he gets a rest, particularly after long gains. That's normal for him.
He played over 50% of the snaps again last Sunday. Don't believe everything you read on BBI, consistently we get the facts wrong here. Snacks was and is a beast on Sundays.
Although he has had knee pain, I don't think it impacted him nor was it a reason for him to be out of the game from what I can tell. He definitely didn't sit out any extended period of time beyond what's normal for him.
Mea Culpa.
👍
Mea Culpa.
Sorry - just saw your response.
I didn't name you for two reasons. First - no need to pile on. Second this wasn't about you in particular. There were many who were spreading the idea that Snacks didn't play in the 4th quarter. I just wanted to make sure we didn't let that become "fact".
And yes, it's cool that you owned up to it, but you didn't need to imo.
