...challenge as Head Coach of the New York Giants. For those old enough to have watched this team from 1964 – 1981, you probably know what it is.
How to pick this team up after they played their hearts out; overcame too many fucking turnovers; were robbed by the refs; and then finally took a 63-yard FG straight in the nuts?
The several bad-to-mediocre Giants teams of the distant past had a difficult time dusting themselves off after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Often times, they would come out the next week and play flat; lay an egg; and take a severe beating. And I do mean severe.
That is the greatest challenge right now for Coach Shurmur: To convince his team that they are still relevant at 1-4 and that they can still win ball games in the NFL.
In 4 days, we will learn alot about what Coach Shurmur really brings to this franchise. And whether or not he's the one to lead this franchise in the coming years.
In addition, there is a it is the officials fault for the loss attitude brewing, that is very bad in my book. This team loses all the time, they do not need the officials help to do it.
See you there
Does Shurmur? We are about to find out.
He needs to keep this team together, and playing hard. As I said in another thread, his heated presser - I didn't see it but from what I read - I think keeps the players engaged and that he's on their side.
While today hurt, I was happy with the effort overall.........
Shurmur is definitely showing the knowledge and skills to lead them in difficult times, and I love the way he is filtering out team issues vs talking points w the press.
The team’s leadership is changing from a quiet, controlled, gifted QB to a wild, emotional and remarkably talented WR. That won’t be easy, smooth or pretty at times, but its happening. Managing this transition will be, IMO, Shurmur’s greatest challenge. Shurmur has the reins, and can lead them. But his leadership is not going to be worth much if OBJ, Eli, the OL, the D Secondary, etc cannot execute as a team.
...the week after the infamous Joe Pisarcik "Miracle in the Meadowlands" fumble, the Giants came out flat and ugly getting wrecked by Buffalo 41-17.
John McVay never pulled the Giants out of their 1978 tailspin after "the Fumble", and he was gone before the start of the next season.

Odd game to compare yesterday's too. Completely differnet game situations.

The comparison is illustrative to point out that -- after a freakish loss -- a team can have a difficult time keeping it together, especially teams that are not used to winning. In any event, Eagles game will be the biggest test IMO for the Head Coach and the entire Giants team. Lay an egg; come out flat; and get their asses handed to them... and we may be looking at a 2 or 3 wins for 2018.
