Thoughts on making Evan Engram a WR

Earl the goat : 10/7/2018 8:27 pm
Split him out wide permanently. It gives Eli a huge target at the receiver position and keeps him from having to block which he doesn’t do very well

Need to develop a TE to give Eli a target over the middle and to add to the blocking schemes Rhett Ellison doesn’t seem to be getting it done

Get him on the field first
The whole thing is that he's a mismatch if he's going against

a LBer or a Safety given his size and speed. If he's put on the outside, there's more of a chance he'd be neutralized.

But I do agree somewhat
I think

people are getting too hung up on semantics. Who cares what he is called? He lines up all over the place.

At 6ft 3 and 4.4 speed. There aren’t many corners that can cover him

I like the idea of moving someone like that around. It takes advantage of mismatches and prevents defenses from coming up with a set scheme to cover him every play.

Yeah, it doesn't matter what his designation is.

We line him up outside. He runs routes off the line. The main idea is to get him matched up against linebackers who aren't quick enough to cover him or DB's who are too small to contest catches.

Whether we call him a WR or TE isn't really relevant and doesn't matter.

The Eagles put Ertz all over the place. Ditto KC with Travis Kelce.

Engram is a really talented kid who will make plays regardless of where you line him up.
can't call him a WR

because if the Giants want to ever franchise tag him, the cost is almost double.

obviously he lines up many different places, but he's a TE for many reasons, one of them financial.
We need to decide our identity pretty soon

Either we go with Hernandez, QB X, and Barkley or Engrams, Lauletta/QB X, and Engrams.

I doubt Mara/Tisch figures it out. This org's the dog with two bones type roster building is BS.

Meant Engram, Lauletta/QB X, and Barkley.

THANK YOU! He’s still just as much of a mismatch on the outside against a corner AND it gives him an easier blocking assignment.
