Frustrating beyond belief but optimistic and hopeful this is a tipping point for the organization.
First and foremost McAffrey was short of the line to gain on 3rd down. The spike on the next play should’ve ended the game. Not sure of what Boger and crew were doing here. Hopefully we hear an explanation.
Secondly, Barkley and OBJ are a real treat and generational talents at their positions. If we ever get the OL sorted out (and they did play better today), the O will be scary good either with Eli for this year or a rookie QB moving forward.
As for Eli, I think he showed again today with adequate protection he can still produce with the game on the line. He moved around the pocket and made some huge throws. He did have the wtf interception but let’s face it he’s had those throughout his career.
Lastly, the penalties. Not sure what the NFL can do here but it’s not sustainable if they hope to be the premiere product moving forward. The unnecessary roughness or helmet to helmet on Collins or Thomas (who I think they meant was absolute BS). Not sure what either of them are supposed to do different in this situation at full speed. The non face mask call on Barkley (after they threw a flag on the field) was ridiculous. Not to mention the missed face mask call on Shepard. Throw in the roughing the passer that went against the Giants and negated a huge holding call and that was all too much to overcome. These subjective calls directly contribute to wins and losses. Yet, despite all this, it took a Herculean kick (2nd longest in NFL history) for the Panthers to win on their home field. Have to tip your cap to Gano. The kick would’ve been good from 70 yards.
I’d like to think this loss and the way it ended galvanizes the team moving forward. With all that’s gone wrong the first 5 games, we’re competitive for the most part (unlike last year) and if things go as they should for Cowboys and Redskins, we’re only 1 game out of the division lead when the dust settles tomorrow night. Beat the Eagles at home Thursday and we could be setup for meaningful and exciting final 10 games as the schedule eases up. We shall see.
This team has fought hard, been in very tight games, got royally SCREWED OVER by the refs the last 2 weeks. If somehow they can reel off 3 straight wins all of a sudden they're in 1st place in the East. Fortunes can turn on a dime in the NFL, and that's not totally out of the realm of possibility, so let's hang in there for a minute.

That and OBJ & Barkley are only going to get better as the offense gells down the stretch
I mean kordell Stewart did and even threw a TD on it!!! Haha
Regardless, it changes the course of the game and situation.

because refs signaled first down. Stop.

So do team's mistakes. NYG had plenty
I won't even go into the hit to the head that was called on the Giants which was ridiculous
the bad officiating was horrendous in sustaining panther drives prior to that.
giants also shot themselves in foot with bad plays.

Because waiting for the measurements, making a decision on what to do, switching units as fast as you can, getting everyone set and calm enough not to have a procedure penalty, and rushing a 63 yard FG attempt pretty much guarantees that you would get the same outcome.
I'd like to see the broadcast to see if Boger made the motion for the chain guys to move because where the ball was spotted it was clearly short.
This was the exact same team we've grown accustomed to. Sure they scored 31. But it was too little too late, unbelievably dumb & irresponsible plays & penalties, gift-wrapped TDs, the D not wrapping up on 3rd down, the RB getting swarmed in the backfield, special teams sucking, etc.
Same story, different game.
The Giants don't do enough things consistently well to win football games. They flash but then random areas of the team misfire and they are overall very stupid.
A rookie QB could most certainly mean some growing pains for at least a couple of years. Even with a very good OL. Don't be so certain that Eli can easily be replaced or even upgraded with a rookie.
We have two threads arguing essentially that it was too much, too early.
We scored the go ahead TD with a minute left. That isn't too little or too late. Despite mistakes, the offense left the field with a lead.
