after the 3rd and 1 run by McCaffrey? This is quite literally keeping me up at night. Obviously there should have also been a review, but I mean there is ALWAYS a measurement when it is that close. ALWAYS.
It's mind-boggling that not only was he clearly short of the first down (as could be seen by every single human being with eyes watching the game in real-time besides the refs), not only was the spot not reviewed, but that they just spotted the ball and looked at it and were like "Yeah whatever FIRST DOWN!"
Sometimes I really do get the impression from these refs that they don't really see their jobs as being that big of a deal. I think it was Jenkins last week who said he asked an official how they missed a call and the official said "it's not like this is the Super Bowl" or something like that. And I guess it makes sense considering this is not their full time job, and these guys rarely face any actual consequences besides just general public anger at them. Have there been instances of Refs being fired for completely blown calls? If so I don't think I've ever heard of one.
Only scenario that would have made a difference would have been if he had been ruled short. In that case it would have been a more rushed process, but probably still time to get it off

Yes, it would have necessitated the kick on 4th down.
that said, it’s not nearly as bad or silly a take as the newton 4th down spike.
The play clock at that point is irrelevant since a delay of game isn't possible.
There were 11 seconds on the clock at that point. After the spike they tried another sideline pass for better FG field position and it was incomplete, leaving 6 sec for the kick. I think most say it takes about 12 seconds to get the kicking team on the field for a totally rushed kick, so chances of a 63-yarder under the 4th down scenerio were maybe impossible.
The Giants were out of timeouts so they couldn’t challenge. The remaining question is whether a booth review for a spot is within the 2-minute set of parameters.
