Pissed at Refs? Do something about it!

TurnAndCoughlin : 10/8/2018 6:09 am
Let the league and the Commish know that the crappy quality and lack of consistency of these refs is putting in jeopardy your continued interest in the NFL! The league is HEMORRAGING fans between the concussion cover up/issue and the national anthem debate. They’ve commissioned studies into fan retention and hired professional marketers to remediate the drops in ratings. LET THEM KNOW there is a third issue that they can actually control - quality and consistency of officiating. Tweet @NFLcommish and @TroyVinvent23. Instagram the same. Let your voices be heard, BBI!

You all know this already, but we are not alone in our frustration and anger at the crap officiating. Let’s start a movement and FORCE change. Voice the easy questions: how is it that college football (“amateurs”) can get it right but the “professionals” (NFL) constantly don’t? Where is the public accountability and transparency when errors are made? We fans invest too much - money, pride, spirit - to continue to be taken for granted!

Twitter and Insta are platforms to get the message across. The Giants fan base is one of the biggest! Let them know - @NFLcommish and @TroyVinvent23.
League would just lol and put the complaints

On a mile high file to collect dust.

Nothing can be done about it.you get bad calls, it's been the history of the game..just take the good with the bad and move along
Want to do something about it

Get involved in officiating. Most states have a shortage of quality officials

micky if they get enough complaints, especially valid ones, they will listen. Wasn't long ago that they admitted to refereeing mistakes. Now it is quashed. That was a disgrace yesterday.
Officiating

Unfortunately the system is broken. The refs make a judgement call on the Collins play. They see it once at real speed. We see it 10 times broken down

Change the rule where those penalties are reviewable as well as roughing the passer calls

Missed face mask, holding, etc are missed every game, however the others are game altering plays.

The rules change against the defenders are so drastic, the least the league can do is have it backed up. If college can do it the NFL can. Penalized for doing it correctly is not an outcome that is positive
The refs job is impossible to do consistently
Hades07 : 10/8/2018 7:55 am : link
The rules are too complex and nuanced for the human eye to see everything it needs to see to be consistent. Bad calls suck but it is the ridiculous rules that is the promblem. Make them simple and easy to enforce. For the most part the NFL has become unwatchable due to the officiating issues. I only watch Giants games now because of it and I am not sure how many more seasons I will even continue to do that if it doesn't change.
Review EVERY play
jsuds : 10/8/2018 7:56 am : link
Call down corrections to field crew when they screw up.

Take human error out of equation. The technology is there.

Players risk a lot and deserve to have refs get it right.

The officiating is designed to be flawed
Motley Two : 10/8/2018 8:04 am : link
Look at all the grey areas (the league has created over the last decade+) in the rule books. They want their officials to be able to impact/influence games.
At this point the officiating and the NFL are complete

embarrassments.

To see such incompetence in almost every level of the NFL is commonplace now.

I don't care anymore, frankly.

Football on Sunday is basically a crapfest and is clearly upstaged by college football.

So, Goodell and the NFL....Have fun! Because like the millions of other fans who have liberated themselves from this shit, add me to the list.
Ok I'll give this a try

TurnAndCoughlin: This is the definition of spitting into the wind. First off: what drop in ratings, last I heard this year’s ratings have been fine for the NFL.

This anger by fans and the media was all predicted going into the season:

• New helmet to helmet rules that were implemented with not much explanation and no thought on how to enforce them
• At least 3 or 4 experience refs retiring in the off season so you have new crews that need to figure this out on their own
• A believe by Park Ave that the loss of a QB to injury is the biggest short term detriment to game. Casual fans won’t watch when the backups are playing.

Moreover, the NFL has made the calculation to incur the wrath of their fans rather than risk the long term prospects of their league. The current NFL “flag football” as many call is the NFL response to the violence of the game that leads to too many injuries and possible increase chances of CTE. Without changing the nature of now defenses play, they fear in 10 or so years the prospect of either the talent base diminishing due to moms not allowing their sons to play or congress stepping and demanding changes if NFL games are seen as a blood sport. That I’m sure is what the NFL’s consultants are telling them.

Bitch and moan all you want but other than tweaking things here and there and maybe occasionally saying their sorry on Monday morning for some calls on Sunday, they are willing to ride it out and expect the players and refs will adjust.

Oh and they will never review each penalty by replay. While that would work it would slow the game to a crawl and TV wouldn’t stand for it.

I've said it many times..

that the league makes it too hard to officiate a game with their subjective rules.

And there's even a way to fix things without removing the subjectivity - get younger, better refs.

On top of that, make a standard that a penalty is a penalty if it is egregious. That way players decide the games. You don't have 3rd and 14 bailouts on a grazing bump that's called illegal contact. You don't reward a team who just threw the ball out of bounds by calling a defensive hold where two players arms touch. We are where we are partially because the Colts didn't like the Pats pushing the envelope of the rules, but guess what - the players decided the outcome of games, not the refs.

But fuck, when you have guys who miss blatant facemasks or see the facemasks and inexplicably pick up the flags, we're all screwed

This is spot. The league has become so flag happy. Even there is any doubt, don’t blow the whistle! I understand they want to enforce the game a certain way, but it’s shifted too far. I truly believe it is killing the game.
Here are is what’s been declared by the NFL...

In the end, we are this - a TV show. And the best TV shows have drama and unpredictability.

All of those elements are in place and the customer is watching.

Until that changes, just keep doing what we’re doing...

I wish the refs were encouraged to view the replays...
Dan in the Springs : 10/8/2018 10:01 am : link
when they huddle, just once it would be nice for them to look up at the video board just to see if there is something obvious that might help them get the on-field call correct. Regularly there will be conferences on the field where the flag is picked up and the announcement is that there was no infraction. It wouldn't take much more time at all and the on-field refs should be able to call for a quick review if they aren't 100% sure of what they saw, or if doubt enters their minds after viewing the replay during the on-field conference.
Yes clearly some awful calls that didn't do the Giants any favors

But seems like this kind of thread should also exist when they go our way as well, right?

Otherwise, you all are just chasing your tails...
The league has been moving toward the official being a bigger part of
Rjanyg : 10/8/2018 10:19 am : link
The game since UFA in 1993.

It used to be that team had to draft well in order to acquire talent but the invent of the salary cap and free agency has created a situation where more teams are very close in talent so we have closer games, hence the officials are being more and more involved in the outcome of games.

After watching the game yesterday
OBJ_AllDay : 10/8/2018 1:47 pm : link
I no longer rule out the idea of fixed games. Hell it happened in the NBA already.... cam throws a pass to nobody and the refs flag (and later pick it up) a call that would have gone against the giants and effectively end the game (before their go ahead drive). That was as lopsided a called game as I have ever seen. Missed face masks on shep and barkley. Bad call on Wynn. McAffrey stopped short... too many to name
