1-4 and still alive

Dave in PA : 10/8/2018 9:35 am
We could hypothetically be right in the mix after next Sunday sharing 2 wins with the rest of the division. It ain’t pretty, but the Giants are only mostly dead.
This is the saving grace of the horrific start...

to the season. 11 games left, 1.5 games out of first right now. Amazing, but if the team can continue to improve the season unbelievable isn't over. The division is wide open, imo.
If yesterday, despite the debacle stuff, is any indicator,

we might be ready on O to get it together, But again, the OL needs to get to average.

Go Saints

Oline pass blocking seems much improved, however Barkley is still getting hit before he can get to the freaking line. I’d like to see them maybe pull the Guards or use an H-Back or FB to help open some holes for Barkley, because right now, the only way they’re gaining yards on the ground is through spectacular moves by him.
I’m interested to see what happens on Thursday

Last years team would have folded like a wet rag after a heartbreaker like that

Do these guys have what it takes to keep fighting? As you said...the season isn’t over yet seeing as the rest of the division isn’t exactly setting the world on fire
The good news (?),
Big Blue '56 : 10/8/2018 9:42 am : link
is that we are actually HOME for a Thursday night game.
I'm just..

hoping Barkley's ankle is OK for Thursday. He looked like he landed awkwardly and was painfully limping to the sideline after the TD.

He said he was fine but you know what that means.
I said this the last couple of weeks.

I am not impressed with Bettcher right now. All we heard was during the preseason was how we will be having guys coming from everywhere and it will give offenses fits. Um, I don't think I can recall a blitz designed where the offense looked confused at all and didn't know who to pick up. Our players just simply run into blockers and we aren't winning those matchups.

I hate when I hear dedensive coaches talk about how they have to win their one on one matchups. That isn't coaching. That is praying. An offense cannot double every defender. In fact, just by pure numbers almost every pass block is a one on one matchup. That is what every offense wants. Get a hat on a hat. Why should DC be okay with that. They should be fucking with the blocking scheme and trying to get a free rusher. We are sending a lot of players that get picked up and that leaves us extremely vulnerable on the back end. If we are going to do that I'd rather just get more guys in coverage.

Yes, the defense has played well for stretches but it doesn't last and more often than not the plays are being made in the secondary and not at the QB.

Oh, for fucks sake.
Will be interested to see how this team comes out
nygiants16 : 10/8/2018 9:53 am : link
do they play agressive early and look like a team pissed off or they do they come out sluggish looking like a team that just lost a heartbreaker...

Thinking the same thing. Its games like this you look to see who is buying into the coaching themes or not...

Thats a cheap shot.. besides for this season I want Giants to win on sundays but by monday I am already over the loss.. this is a multiple year building project.. I'd rather Barkley take a day off and then play at 90%...

The only true problem is that the Giants are playing a team who has had their number for the past 6 seasons.
The Giants have to find a way to beat Philly, and they can't do with Manning throwing picks, and the defense taking stupid penalties.
I hate the Eagles more than any other team in sports, so this game is the most important game of the year so far.
I want to see some trick plays like the one they used yesterday with Beckham throwing to Barkley.
The Giants need to build some confidence, and winning a game against a division rival that has owned them would be huge.
Kill Philly! GO BIG BLUE!!
Maybe it is FINALLY time that we get the benefit of some

fortuitiveness. Maybe this time, WE kick that 63 yarder as time expires.

Things are cyclical

Know why they're definitely still alive?

Dallas 2-3
Philadelphia 2-3
Washington 2-1 (tough game tonight @NO)

No one is head and shoulders above the other.

I think the Eagles are better than their record. But my pessimism derives from how this team has looked more than anything else. Does anyone really think this looks like even a 9-7 team?
Yeah
Defense56 : 10/8/2018 10:39 am : link
Really crazy that if the Giants won yesterday there'd be a 3-way tie for 2nd Place.

Brett, no and I agree about the Eagles.

I don't think they are playoff bound (Giants) but I do think they are starting to come together. As frustrating as Sunday was, I think they showed the "energy" as the game wore on. CAR only took that W because of the refs and a 63 yd FG. This Thursday will be the litmus.

Ehhh..I don't know. The Eagles aren't running the ball anywhere near the way they did last year. I think they miss Blount and the back they got from Miami is overrated IMO. And their pass defense is really an issue versus teams that can sling it. And, they have age on their DL.

Blaming the refs is lame, our star QB threw two picks in the fourth quarter, that is a recipe for disaster in the NFL!

The star QB that gave us the lead with 50 seconds left? Eli wasn't perfect but he gave us enough to win yesterday.
They hit them with 5 bullets and they're still alive!

In Bettcher's defense, he hasn't had a consistent reliable pass rusher (we can only hope Vernon's return will remedy that), plus the weaknesses at FS/CB have been somewhat limiting. I think we sometimes forget just how bad this team was on both sides of the ball after last year. There are still a number of holes at critical positions (e.g., ER, FS, RG, RT, Nickle/Dime CB).
