Roughing the Passer Through 5 Weeks

UConn4523 : 10/8/2018 11:29 am
there have been 48 RTP penalties called so far this season through 5 weeks, excluding tonights game. All of 2017 there were 107 RTP penalties.

In other words, its being called 9.6x per week compared to 6.69x last year, good for a 43.5% increase.

The NFL is good.

You know what I don't get.

I understand protecting from the brain injuries. CTE is real and now everyone is talkign about it, so its a good idea to end these ridiculous head shots that we see weekly. Why are we protecting QB's ribs though? It's football. Do we really need to make it where a QB can't get hurt? Can we protect every player from injuries? Why are we protecting the QB's from hits that have 0 to do with the head?
And yet every week, Mr. Blandino,

Not defending

some of these calls but unfortunately, this game without starting QB's will be unwatchable and will hurt the product immensely. Teams need to make the adjustments and move on. Or accept the calls and move on. Either way I doubt anything changes.

I don’t accept that and neither should coaches and players. They need to challenge the system. Just letting this go helps no one.

Blandino hasn’t worked for the NFL since 2016.

You really do not have to accept it, either do I, but when Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees and in our case Eli Manning go down, what is there to watch?
Actually it was

6.29 last year. There are 17 weeks if you are using per week as your basis.
There’s plenty to watch
UConn4523 : 10/8/2018 11:44 am : link
I don’t need Tom Brady to make the game interesting. This many blown calls and the quasi 2 hand touch rules make it an unbearable sport at times. Seeing guys throw for 400 yards and 5 TDS isn’t as fun as some make it seem. I don’t need 80 point games to be entertained.

That’s correct, I punched in 16 forgetting about weeks not games.

I don't disagree that the NFL is QB driven but I have yet to see a QB miss time because they got touched in the helmet by a hand. I get the blatant helmet to helmet contact. I get going low to the knee. Anything outside of that is either ridiculous or just part of the game like when a QB gets tackled and their head bounces off the turf.

I guess I didn’t understand your point then. You are assuming all QBs will get injured if they didn’t enforce these ridiculous rules?

I am not assuming anything, certainly not a fan of the rule. Just my theory on the thought behind the rule. As a fan if it does keep these guys on the field then I guess I do get it.

I thought his point was that if it were to happen to the Quarterback of your team, why would you even watch your team anymore? The Eagles last year were an outlier winning a super bowl with Foles, but usually when a team's QB goes down that spells the end of their season automatically, or at least it would for the teams he first mentioned, whereas injuries to other positions that isn't the case.
