Two questions: Sterling upset and OBJ on punts

Big d E 2 : 10/8/2018 12:13 pm
Anybody know why Sterling was so upset? Really stupid....he could easily have gotten a boxer fracture hitting the bench like that.

Anybody else feel like it is too big a risk to have OBJ back on punts....it so reminds me of Jason Sehorn. There has to be other people out there who could be a good punt returner....hopefully the guy they just put on the practice squad.
Not too much of a risk

Punt returner is a relatively safe position. You put your play makers in a position to make plays and having him return punts does that.

No idea what got Shep fired up
.

Answer to question one was frustration and still upset at the non face mask call.

Answer to question two, Antonio Brown returns punts for the Steelers. You want your play makers making plays. He gave more in punt returns yesterday then we have seen all season.
I thought SS was pissed
Eman11 : 10/8/2018 12:20 pm : link
Because for the second time yesterday the refs missed calls against him. The early DPI on the 3rd down play and then another face mask that wasn't called.

That's two face masks this year that were missed on him alone, and I think the frustration finally caused him to blow a gasket.

Landry did it in Miami. Hell desean Jackson did it for ears

. Sometimes outcomes are not influenced by a singular action. Some of these guys sound like a teen, in which they think the whole center of the fucking world evolves around what they are thinking, exclusive to the fact that other things are going on around them that have literally nothing to do with them.

on INT might be why Shepard was pissed. They apparently weren't on the same page on route.
Jason Sehorn Injury Was 20 Years Ago

Can we please stop using his injury as a relevant example?

Players can get hurt at any time, even in practice like OV did.

I could be wrong, but I thought Shep's sideline stuff happened before the 2nd INT.
Totally agree

OBJ is too valuable to use on punt or kickoff returns. The Seahorn injury brought that home very clearly to me. He will be targeted by most special team coordinators in the league. Just like using your QB as a running back. We lose half our offense if OBJ goes down like he did last year. Can we afford that risk after the huge contract he just signed. Think not.
Most importantly
Giantimistic : 10/8/2018 1:10 pm : link
OBJ was over there with Shep trying to calm him down. Imagine if it was OBJ throwing the tantrum. that would be all the news. Instead not a word of maybe OBJ starting to show a little more leadership after his meeting with Schurmer. Still sawy all the headlines today about the OBJ drama.
OBJ is too valuable NOT to put back there
Matt M. : 10/8/2018 1:11 pm : link
We have nobody else even worth a sniff except Barkley.
Me, I'd be happy if we'd fair-catch
CT Charlie : 10/8/2018 1:19 pm : link
every punt except the line drives and NOT block at all on the return. We have too many muffs and blocks-in-the-back that cost us yardage.

Rush ten guys and let someone with great hands catch it drama-free.

given how much I hate faux-protests, but I think Shep needs to sell those penalties a little more.
OBJ on punts
GiantsFan84 : 10/8/2018 1:57 pm : link
showed me he should NOT be back there because he doesn't know what he's doing as a returner
I used to think Odell was too valuable
Dinger : 10/8/2018 1:59 pm : link
but he has gotten hurt in preseason, practice and during games where he just played offense, so I say get our moneys worth...He's really well paid, he thinks he can do it, he's got talent, let him go do it. Unless you can find someone better.
Punt Return
TyreeHelmet : 10/8/2018 2:02 pm : link
Is there anyone on the roster even as close to as skilled as OBJ as a punt returner? Unless he's winded or injured, use him there. Same injury risk as any other play with the ball in his hand.

I actually agree with this. He doesn't really know what he's doing, but he's such an athletic freak that he can often make more out of a return than he has any right to.

I actually don't worry too much about Beckham getting hurt on returns. He makes a lot of business decisions when he's got the ball in his hands, and I don't fault him for it. I do worry about ball security, though.
him being on punt returns
GiantsFan84 : 10/8/2018 2:39 pm : link
you can strongly argue cost them the game vs carolina
OBJ on punts leads to holding penalties
Youtoo : 10/8/2018 2:53 pm : link
Remember when he was used the last few years on punt returns? He runs sideline to sideline which works, but the cut backs lead to holding. Punt returns end up with a ton of holding penalties as well.

This is also extra hints on him and it risks injury. I am not sure this is a good idea.

I really don't like Barkley on kickoff returns unless we are in a win and get in the playoffs or in the playoffs situation. The hits are too forceful. I want him healthy.
Shep is an overachiever
idiotsavant : 10/8/2018 3:15 pm : link
Which is great. And- Obj is good in all aspects, talent, is prepared, plays hard.

Team really needs, Latimer, Evan Engram or Barkely at #3 WR. Right now your asking an awful lot of the Shepard's.
Shep has OBJ as a mentor and role model
joe48 : 10/8/2018 3:34 pm : link
Starting to act out l like OBJ. Best way to get more targets and big contract.

section125 : 10/8/2018 4:06 pm : link
crap. As pointed out several top receivers return punts. Yes he screwed up the one punt by trying to block the gunner, but he also had 15 yards on his 1st punt and he has great hands.

OBJ should be getting his hands on any ball he can and if he doesn't get, it Barkley should.

BTW, I thought Davis was decent on KO. He hesitates a touch just before the scrum, but he gets up stream and gets YAC..
