I was in my car listening to the game for the final TD drive and Carolina's FG, then they had to kickoff with 1 sec remaining and Bob Papa made it sound like a fun return play that almost worked. When I got home I tried to watch it on the DVR but Fox immediately cut to the late game after the FG without showing the kickoff.. I can't find video of it online, anyone see it anywhere?
The coaches film isn't up yet - I'll try to check it to see if it's included later.
From the looks of it OBJ got 26 yds, then lateraled to Riley who then lateraled to Shepard who got 27 more yards before fumbling out of bounds.
You're right - sound like it almost worked. Really want to see it.
Kudos to those that watched it. I immediately just went into a separate room and laid down on the floor in disbelief.
At 4:24pm, right before the FG attempt, Fox cuts off the game to play a few local commercials as his customary before going to the Eagles telecast at 4:25pm.
So I turn on Redzone - and don't you know they're talking about Detroit/Green Bay instead of showing the live kick. About two minutes later, the guy goes "and look what just happened in Carolina"...........
Oh I think I broke t h e tv by then.
My thought exactly.
Same. I’m just now learning there was a kickoff. WTF.
Man, not only for the refs screw ya but Fox did too. Not that it matters. Just weird AF.
I just listened to the broadcast - Beckham took it from way deep in the endzone, hurdled a guy, then lateraled twice. When Shepard had the ball they saw a seam, but he tried to pass it back to Jawill Davis and Papa and Banks both said he should have sprinted and he might have made it.
I noticed that it was OBJ and SS back deep to return the kick. They should have had OBJ and Barkley, but I'm guessing that he was still sore from the extension into the end zone.
If there truly was a seam it's likely that Barkley has the speed and vision to get into the end zone.
What could have been. Ugh.
Imagine if they had scored on the KO return and all of us found at hours later during SNF pregame?
In some regions I heard they cut to the Eagles Vikings game right before Gano attempted the kick. So, no, they would have had zero 'splaining to do, people would just be like "wow that was crazy" and then the following week everything would be back to normal with FOX making millions of dollars broadcasting professional sports.
The Nfl sport is awesome, warts and all. The coverage of said sport is abominable. They are slowly killing the golden goose. Think boxing from the 80/90s to now. All that shit (scandals, fixes and overall dirt) came back to bite them too.
