I know there's not a lot faith around here this year for the Knicks. But for those who may have been excited at a 3-0 start, last night should temper your expectations. After turning off the Yankee game I watched almost all of the game. Couple notes:
-We missed Kanter, who right now is our best player on this team. Let that one sink in.
-We still don't have a true PG. I'm not really a fan of this positionless basketball that Fiz is trying to employ. I'll be patient though.
Frank Ntilikina: Got his first start last night. Looked good and attacked last night. Hit a couple open jumpers. Unneccessary fouls in the third though while almost fouling out. Finished with 10 points/4 rebounds/2 assists
Kevin Knox: Welcome to the NBA. Easily his worst game as a Knick. He looked lost and lacked confidence. He's only 19, but he needs to come off the bench to start the season. Let Mario get the start. Which leads me to my next point.
Mario Hezonja: Sucks. He's careless with the ball. Is atrocious on defense. His offense is neither glorious or deplorable. Unimpressed so far with his tenure as a Knick.
Allonzo Trier: Another night where he shined. 18 points/2 assists/4 rebounds. Seems to be a great find so far. The kid can score and create his own shot.
Luke Kornet: Has size. That's about it. Easily could be cut.
Moving forward we have one preseason game left. Who is our starting PG? As mentioned above, no one is standing out. Every PG we have on our roster has one thing but not another. You can pretty much pencil in Lance Thomas-Kanter as our starting front court. Yikes.
He shouldn't.
Frank, THjr, Knox, Thomas, Kanter

He's gonna get eaten alive right now. I'm not saying he shouldn't start all season. But I think he needs to be brought along slowly. He's 19. This isn't the Summer League anymore.

so who should start? and i dont see him getting eaten alive, he didnt shoot well last night but he isnt get bodied or destroyed...
fizdale already said he is going to throw him in the deep end and watxh him swim..
burke should not start, he is a 6th man scoring guard...
i actually liked the frank hardaway backcourt, i thought they played well together

I said Mario. Who I know, sucks. Unless we got with Frank-Lee-THJ as our starting 1-2-3. I just don't think Knox is ready yet to be thrown to the wolves. Just my opinion.
* Ronnie Baker is one of the top 7 players on the team, let that sink in.
* Watching the LT - Football life - they showed a clip of a fan holding up a sign - Year 18 of the 5 year rebuilding plan, yea, that sign can be taken out of storage and held up at the garden.
* Wizards had something to prove last night, lost to the Knicks in the opener and the veteran players took it to em.
* Jason Smith's best game at the garden was last night with the Wizards, his 8 points and dunk.

umm how is baker a top 7 player when he has only played 4th quarter minutes?
The other night he came in the game and the defense picked up and the speed intensity picked up.
Who has played better then him this pre-season?
Knox (not last night)
THJ
Trier
Kanter
Lance Thomas
Frank
Robinson

actually the state of the knicks is on the uptick..
Baker is not even going to be in the rotation, he is a hustle defenvie guy, of course the defense would get better but he is not going to play
if kp is who we think he is and knox is who we think he could be it wont take years

I hope you're right. But i'm cautious. KP is 23, coming off an ACL. Knox is 19. Frank is 20. The jury is still out on Knox and Frank. It's gonna be a few years, IMO.
- The knicks are going to be a bottom 3 team without KP. The only worse roster is Atlanta and that’s debatable. But it’s for the best, they desperately need a top 3 pick in this draft.
- I doubt it’s possible, but I would do everything possible to get some picks for THJ/ Lee/ Kanter. It helps with draft positioning and those players are not going to be a part of the future. They need to continue to build the young talent base.
Agree. But there's a lotta if's in that statement.

i dont think they trade thjr, they dont need the space to get a max...
i think lee will be moved..
kanter i think they would like to keep ontop of their max player they add...

mean if KP comes back healthy, Knox is even "only" a solid starter, Frank a contributor and a high pick this year + Mitchell it shouldn't take "that long" to be relevant again. It won't be this year.
Agree. But there's a lotta if's in that statement.
of course there are a lot of ifs, but that is why they built thwir coaching staff on development
-KP is a top 25 player (in some ways it is fortuitous that hes out for 40 games; see TANK
-Knox looks very promising (long term)
-Frank will be a very useful player (outstanding defender with adequate offense)
-Robinson and Trier look like absolute steals
-front offices playing hardball w Noah
-leadership not being near sighted with their plan (a novel concept)
-Fizdale
-likelihood of a top 5 pick to add to all the youth indicated above
-a MAX spot next year
This is all VERY ENCOURAGING and I for one am okay w a 20-25 win season as part of building this thing the RIGHT WAY. No short cuts.

I mean most players make it back from ACL so KP should eventually be the KP we saw previously. Frank (who I didn't want them to take and I still think is a limited player) would have to fully stall developmentally to not at worst be a solid rotational player, his defense, length and ability to play 2 positions alone = would get solid minutes on a "good" team with any future development and Knox (last night aside) has a full array of skills and seems like a smart/hard working kid. I'm FAR from a pollyanna. They will need to get lucky somehow. Nailing this upcoming pick and or/landing someone like Durant but for once I think they legit are being built like a normal team.
and he looks far better than solid to me
You're not being paranoid in the sense both the Knicks and KP have acknowledged it's different for a 7'3 player. However, ACL surgery has really come a long way and for the most part you rarely hear players have their careers severely impacted nowadays. Shocking to say... but I actually trust the Knicks on this one. IF KP doesn't come back 100% then yeah the Knicks will not be good for a long, long time.
That's hilarious, here's a guy who left OKC so he could join a CHAMPIONSHIP team, and now he's going to come to the Knicks who are about as far from a champ as you can get! Not in our lifetimes.
+1 he also has already suffered a foot injury which is the plague of all big men, besides the ACL.

never had a foot injury

this is not something made up by knicks fans
That’s a very good point

Why shouldn’t he start? There’s no valid answer...
The only priority is develop the youth. Play Knox until his legs fall off.

Given the Giants and the Rangers, I want the Knicks to win. They're my only hope.
Trier 1
Knox 2
Nili 3
??
Kantor?
Win or loose get da yoots going.
