Clearly going defense-first tonight. Andujar not in the lineup at all, though he will certainly get an AB at some point I'm sure.
All fucking hands on deck. Forget last night. Doesn't matter what the score was, it's over and done with.
Do or die. Let's go, Yanks.
Andujar will most likely see a key AB at some point
Work good AB's. Get runners home when they're in 1 or less out situations on 3rd.
An early run or two would go a long way. Don't let Porcello gain confidence early by hacking at stuff out of the zone.
Playing from ahead is big. The team that has scored first has won each game so far and I believe that's basically how it has gone in most postseason games across the league so far.
Collectively we hit .218 against Porcello. Too bad we can't active Ellsbury for tonight's game.
It's more for his D at 3rd with CC on the mound and the grounders hit to the left side.
Hopefully Walker does bring a veteran approach to the plate but he's got shitty numbers against Porcello. Fingers crossed that changes tonight.
(...too soon?)
(...too soon?)
I made sure it was in the thread title just in case they had another issue telling time this evening.
Hell, he's in a place we can't even use replay to correct his fuckups unless it's a tag play.
I just don't get it. For the good of the game he needs to be left at the hotel or better yet sent home. Does anyone think a player who made three errors last night would be playing today? Why does an ump get to be on the field again?
I know all about his suit against MLB but they need to show some balls and do the right thing for the better of the game. The game should be their #1 priority and let the chips fall where they may in regards to the suit.
Personally I never thought he stood a chance of winning his suit, and after last night I can't imagine and judge or jury siding with him. He basically proved MLB's case for them last night.
;)
If we lose, you can all blame me for everything if it will make you feel better. :)
But forget that. We can play the juju game when the season is over. It isn't over yet.
;)
Nah, Arc's cool and has had some winners this year. I've got no problem with him starting the thread and I think him having the actual start time in the title, is some good stuff.
LETS GO YANKEES

Thanks for the vote of confidence, bud.
FWIW and for the superstitious, I feel like I have a pretty good NYY game thread winning%. I will summon my best juju.
But in all seriousness.. I am confident. I really think we'll get this back to Fenway.
It's not over yet. Let's fucking do this.
CC has to be great tonight.
Same token - Porcello terrifies me. He’s a thoroughly mediocre pitcher, but he’s given the Yankees some fits and he’s a local kid who I’m guessing will be really locked in.
CC has to be great tonight.
Eh, it was brutal, but.....the Sawx won a game 14-1 in the 1999 ALCS. Yanks won the series though
I believe that was the same for Eovaldi too. Let’s hope that trend continues.
Haha. Nah. It would make sense if I ever actually hated the Yanks, but I really didn’t.
I will telll you guys that I am being completely honest when I say that I get actual joy and happiness out of the Yanks winning now. It was weird for a few weeks but I feel real attachment to this team at this point. It’s not forced. This is my home how. It feels right to me.
If we lose, y’all can blame me. But I’m in for the long haul.
Lets go, Yanks!
voit opening day 1B next year?
what happens to bird?
He shouldn't be allowed in the stadium let alone on the field umpiring, and at home plate taboot. It's mind boggling to me MLB is letting this happen.
need to get out of this shit right here
the sox are good with RISP and 2 outs, need to get out of this....got off to a good start now we in a jam first inning.
almost a grand salami.
CC be lucky to get to the 4th, already 20 pitches.
offseason=two starters
Really? A dwarf bothers you?

I don't even think the innings or pitch count matters. It's when he gets to the 3rd time through the order, he'll be on a batter to batter IMO. If that. Boone might only let him go twice through unless he's lights out.
Of course
Hernandez is a bum, but I don’t think this is a fair complaint. It’s rare for pitchers to get those calls when they miss their spot by feet and not inches.

And we have to look at that scumbag Giuliani behind the plate all night? Puke.

He's disgusting inside and out. So yes. He bothers me.
Great inning of Abs there. Holy shit.
Fuckin Rick porcello.
didi swings at two WAY up. judge swings at one WAY up
talk about a good approach.
THEIR PEN SUCKS! helllooo
We are taking strikes and swinging at balls. Better approach is fucking important here. Cmon.
Defense at 3rd with CC pitching. Big fella gets a lot of ground balls to that side and they don't want to risk giving the Sox extra outs.
Second of all, why are they swinging at the high bullshit out of the zone? If I'm Boston, I'm throwing those for the rest of the series. They can't seem to control themselves and take pitches.

hard to argue that i guess. been very impressed with Gardy seeing a lot of pitches, but I think Hicks leading off is probably still the smarter move and having Gardy turn the lineup over.
its just amazing to see the wasted ABs throughout this whole series. you know their pen is a weak spot, gotta make these assholes work.
A 380 foot oppo shot from Voit would do the trick.
Both make you quesi..
like WTF...has ANY of them ever heard of working a fucking coutn
oh boy, porcello pitching the full game at this pace
He's thrown 15 of 17 strikes. How much shit out of the zone are they going after? Didi chased one but that's all.
They're missing good pitches. Voit had one right down the middle and grounded out.
You can say the same about the Sox against CC, he always shuts them down.
Take some fucking pitches, have to get to their pen.
Quote:
Still swinging at first pitches and going after shit out of the zone. Porcello's gonna pitch at least 8 innings.

this team just doesnt have good enough starting pitching to compete.

Point is he's throwing a ton of strikes. Hard to work the count when it's mostly strikes. They're hittable pitches, and they just gotta do something with them.
I don't really see them flailing away and chasing bad pitches.
Great analysis.
There’s nothing much he can do with some of these hits.

Agreed about Didi but it's not like the rest of the lineup is doing the same thing. Porcello is mostly throwing strikes and they've got to hit those pitches,IMO. Definitely want to let the shitty ones go by but I honestly haven't seen too many of those.
Shhhhh, hes got a big arm tho dude!
bro. sox hit with 2 outs. they know how to score runs, we simply hit a homer or nothing
CC isn't making pitches. Hook him.

Inferior enough to play for a team with 108 wins, which really makes them pretty good. FWIW.
NO, you're right, Kinsler and Nunez are total studs. You totally got us there.

Didi
Hicks
Stanton
Bird/Sanchez/Voit are wildcards but that's a nice core to have.

He has a full no trade. I doubt he’d go anywhere but LA. Although he may not like NY and all the pressure so maybe he would expand his acceptable teams. Who knows.

They have to hit those strikes and do damage with them. Not miss them and end up being easy grounders or pop ups.
I posted it before you fuck face.
Lol, no but seriousy I said that the difference in this series is that one team throws strikes and has good plate appearances consistently, the other does not.
Only positions open are 1B and LF, give me contact hitters please.
Well that wont happen.
He did produce and actually played very well during stretches where they were without Judge and some other regulars. But that contract though....

I’d like to see Frazier actually healthy and play
Why is he not a fit? Carries the team for a month and he isn't a fit.
Pitching could use a boost but they’ve scored one run in the last 16 innings and consistently come up short with RISP. There are some holes to fill in both sides.
They also do not seem to be carrying. Sanchez crushed that and it stay in.
Yeah very much so

This. If he’s not on this team, we’re not watching this game right now.

Because hes another RH bat who really cant play the field is why I would be open to moving him. I honestly think Gary gets another year at C and then he gets seriously considered as a DH or 1B. Then if we dont think that Andujar can carry the fielding load at 3B, we have to consider him at 1B.
Stanton could be considered a redundancy. But until the other two consistently crank 40 HRs, "not a fit" is a bit harsh.
Seriously
It’s something that’s been brought up many times here.

He can play outfield. He's not Judge or Gardy but he can play OF, but in the AL he does not have to play.
would have been great to bring judge up there
But he saw more pitches than the rest of the team..
I don't think it's that inane to consider trading him while his value is high for a restock of the farm and a quality player or 2

You will not get fair value in return. You are also just assuming he is not going to be the money in 2 years. He’s in great shape and still has plenty of baseball in him.

Do players disintegrate at age 30? Logan's Run!
Looks that way and I'm stoked about that. I'm not sure they can get the twelve outs they need out of that pen.
Ok, on to their pen.

Haxton's is delicious. It has a special edition pirates ship on the label and will run you about $14.99 for a handle. Yes, your head will be exploding in the morning, you'll regret everything you did the night before, you won't remember anything and you might be caked in vomit and regret.
But there's no doubt you had fun. And you saved about $8 which is plenty of money for a large pedialite, a gas station hot dog and a bottle of ghetto aspirin or sleeve of Goodys.

The only good thing about this series ending tonight would be not having to listen to Marblemouth Darling anymore.
Yanks have missed several fastballs they should be hammering. Credit where due of course, Porcello had then off balance most of the night

gonna have to beat kimbrel lol

Need Machado at third, use Andujar as a major piece in a trade for a big arm. I’ve loved him all year, but he has real holes in his game while still having a lot of value.
need to hold em at 4 to have a shot...still a long shot the way we have been hitting

I don't think that's set in stone. The O's sucked and he was able to force his way to SS with them this year because it upped his value for this coming off season on free agency. He's already said he'd play 3rd for the Yanks.
I'm not giving up on Miggy yet either. Maybe he could play 1st or LF or just get better at 3rd if they don't get Machado.

As for trading Andujar, I agree, they shouldn’t give up on him. For years fans bitched about signing high priced FA’s and wanting to see more home grown talent. Well, they have that now and, here we are, seeing people be attracted to the shiny new FA who is going to get a huge contract.

yea he is a fucking moron....cole or any ace would go a long way, so would some fucking bats...with this lineup we struggled to get hits more than once this year
Andujars value is more feplaceable at first base. His value is much different if he can stick at third. Right now I don’t see it.
Yeah, I don't need to see him in pinstripes anymore.

Why is he not a 1B? He is not super mobile so it would seem he would be far more of a fit at 1B.

We have 3 outs left. But if we can’t get them, I’d be looking everywhere for another contact hitter with a low k-rate and obviously we need a starter.
If they think Torres can play SS, maybe Murphy would be worth pursuing.
We’re close. And we’re set up really nicely. Need a little SP help and I really think a contact hitter is what we desparately need in this lineup.
Still have an inning left. If we lose, I’m sorry. But the window is just opening back up and we have a fucking lot to look forward to.

I thought that exact same thing....on both ends of your post. First Sevvy last night, then bringing in Lynn with the bases juiced and then CC tonight. CC should have never come out for the 4th.
Also I have to wonder if Gleyber tweaked something and thats why he struggled getting down the line. He was REALLY slow. His bat also took about 4 steps back in the postseason too, but hes a rookie.

Anyway. A lot of you guys welcomed me with open arms this year. I did something totally unorthodox. I get it. But Eman, sec, dune, Greg, B, and all of you dudes who acted like I’ve been here all along.. much love.
There’s a family element to the Yankees for me. Important people in my life passed away this year and there’s just a lot of Yankees history for them and me and I realized this should have always been my team. It felt real and right and this is is where I’ll be for better or worse for the rest of my time.
Love you guys. We’ll be back.
Mind numbing. Jackie Bradley can't hit. CC was finished and Boone is looking ahead to who will face Jackie Bradley instead of being worried about CC being finished and leaving him in like a moron.
Boone leaves a lot to be desired. This series was a train wreck as far as how he managed the pitching. Managers may not make a huge difference in the regular season and analytics can basically manage most aspects of the game, but a bad manager will show his deficiencies in the postseason in regards to handling the bullpen.
Even considering where Jackie Bradley was in the order is a fucking joke. Bradley is a scrub offensively.
see you guys on the giants game thread for hopefully less misery and suffering!
We have a 100 win team but Cashman has some work to do to be playing with Houston and Boston. Boston was crushing teams this year while we played closer games against shitty teams.
We are not far off but our plate discipline sucked. Our starting pitching needs some help and hopefully we can keep a strong bullpen together. Our defense was not as good as it needs to be.
I believe in Cashman but I was hoping he would not choose Boone as manager. Boone is here to stay for awhile so hopefully he will improve.
I like our core team and I don't like the 10 year contract, but we do need some help.
Good year and I enjoyed but it still sucks to come up short.

Are you in middle school? It is a baseball game. One team wins, one team loses. But you don't trash your best player.
I’m not trashing him. Just wish he didn’t give them any extra motivation. Many people said it here last night as well. Relax, It’s not a big deal.
He had just a horrendous series. Live and die by analytics and have zero feel for the game, thats a recipe for disaster in the postgame.
Boone gets an F for his managing this series. As bad as it gets.
This is what Cashman wanted. A manager who is basically a robot and can't actually manage a playoff game
He needs some experience on the bench next to him, and probably a new batting coach (although that's the easiest guy to bury at this point).
2019 will be a better year for you. I have been through your situation and it will get better. However, it may not be because of the Yanks/Giants/Knicks/Rangers :)

Not surprised to see the Yanks lose to the Sox in the playoffs with the way 2018 has gone for me. Eagles win super bowl, red sox knock yankees out of playoffs, and the two people I was closest to passed away. I'm ready for the ball to drop in times square right now for 2019
This too shall pass bud. Have a drink with the ones that are still around. Hell Im moving out of a city I called home for the last 6 years to do so with mine.
Certainly hope so. I also got stabbed in the back by my now ex while my mom was dying, so I basically lost what i thought was my best friend and girlfriend too while I was losing my mom and already lost my gram. This year just has been so fricking miserable. I'm hopeful 2019 will be better.

Embarrassed "US"?
You're an obscure nobody internet poster. There is no "US".
Grow the fuck up.

I feel like I let y’all down. I’m sorry fellas.
I loved every second of watching this team for most of this year and I love where were at going forward. This fucking sucks but we’re set up for the next few years.
Fuck Boston. Lets go, Yanks.
We’ll be back.
Stop apologizing. Your name's not Stanton. And it's not Boone.
Thank God Cashman made a managerial change. You don't want a guy who actually won a ring getting in the way. Much better having Boone fucking it all up.
Go back to broadcasting, Boone.
As a die hard Rangers fan who went through many, many deep playoff runs with some of the dudes here - sometimes the game thread starters get a lot of praise or take a lot of flak. I know a lot of us are superstitious.
Boone got outmanaged in this series. No doubt. Too reactive when you need to be proactive. Left starters too long. It is what it is.
We’re under the lux tax. Only a couple moves away.
It fucking sucks to lose this series. But we’re going to be here for a while.

Oh please. Do you really think Eovaldi and Porcello pitched really well because they had extra motivation from Judge playing NY NY? You can't be serious about that.

You’re a good dude, Mook. Keep your head up. I know it’s been a tough year. Much love to you and the fam.
Not much available in that dept. Maybe Corbin?

I tend to agree on the hitting coach. I'd like to know what he was telling these guys, cause sometimes it seemed like they didn't have any idea at the plate. Oh, the homeruns were nice, but we did leave a lot of runs out there, where a single or double would have had a great impact. JMO
We assembled what is probably one of the top to bottom bullpens ever, but that makes much less a difference in October if you fall behind over and over again.
Same general issues in back to back years: less than stellar starting pitching and just really poor ABs from spots that we needed much more from. Its one thing for rookies like Andujar and Torres to struggle, but McCutchen and Stanton with a total ghost act, including the ultimate rally killing in the 9th tonight.
What's more concerning, as others touched on, is even if we get a starter (Corbin or otherwise), Boone can robotically manage this roster to 90+ wins again - he got 100 fucking wins fresh out of the ESPN Sunday night baseball booth - but what happens next October? If you have the pieces and don't know how to manage them, what changes?
FUCK. Gary just missed.
Angel was fine tonight, CC was not.

I agree with this. If anything AH boned the Sox on balls and strikes not us.

I honestly thought Hernandez called a good game overall.

Yeah it was a very tight zone for both sides, the one call to Benintendi was absolutely a ball but that’s about all I can remember. CC has a history with Angel, tonight was not the time to exorcise those demons.
Bats, this is two comsecutive years the middle of the order has had significant portions of a slump during the season. It took GCS 2 and a half months to get going, but I acknowledge he is a slow starter. He still had absolutely no clue on the slider away. Reminded me of Soriano during his last playoffs with us...the other team didnt even have to throw him strikes.
Judge was very good again this yearamd I will leave him alone. But I dont think Thames is the reason he has a fairly good eye and can hit it out at 116 mph+.
Sanchez is his biggest failure followed by Bird. Bird was a very solid postseason bat for us last year and did NOTHING this year. Sanchez not getting fixed all year and having the same approach is a monumental failure at his job. Im surprised he wasnt replaced by August.
Very disappointing result to the season. We need better minds to form the talent on our roster.

CC needed to throw strikes. If he is using Angel as an excuse forlosing this game or series, Im disappointed in him.
We have a ton of good hitters, but I really think we need at least one more contact, tough AB in there somewhere.
Not a power guy. A guy who gets on base at a ~37% clip, can hit .300, and has ~15 HR pop. Too many guys who are HR dependent. This lineup is prone to getting cold and moving in waves.
Aaron Judge is a superstar. Aaron Hicks is an outstanding CF and leadoff man. Stanton is a tremendous power hitter. Torres and Andujar have incredibly bright futures. Luke Voit could be a find.
But I think we’re missing that high average hitter who gets on base, works counts, and makes the pitcher work. Guys like Daniel Murphy, Ben Zobrist, etc.
We also need SP help. But I think it’s more important to figure out what happened to Sevy down the stretch and correct it because we do have an ace. The guy he was pre-ASB was as good as there was in baseball. Corbin is a guy I’d definitely look at.
The Yanks are really set up to contend for a while. It’s just about the smaller scale moves and finding the guys that will put this roster over the top.

I don't get this. But then again there's a lot I don't get.
Andujar is pure dogshit at 3rd. CC is a contact pitcher who gets a lot of ball hit hard on the ground and they were facing a Red Sox team that hits and runs really well. Meanwhile, Walker got 1 of the team's 5 hits. Sitting him for Walker wasn't the issue.
