New to the site so wanted to both introduce myself and start my first thread.
The NFL is sending a clear message, "we don't want you returning kickoffs!"
Every kickoff return should be downed. Every kickoff should be pooched kicked to the one yard line. The odds are simply so overwhelmingly against returning kicks this needs little further discussion.
On punts, same deal. Fair catch every punt, barring an extreme scenario. This prevents roughing the kicker, muffs, holds, injuries, and punt fakes.
One could argue, had the giants followed this strategy they would have won their last two games.
