Is there any chance the Game is Cancelled Tonight?

mittenedman : 10/11/2018 9:19 am
I'm looking at the weather page now - it's Thunderstorms/Heavy Thunderstorms from 11 AM - midnight.
Great question...
Grey Pilgrim : 10/11/2018 9:22 am : link
Any resident bbi weathermen?
And have the NFL lose out on money???
dep026 : 10/11/2018 9:23 am : link
Are you kidding me? Player safety does not take precdent over money.
didn't a game get delayed
Rocky369 : 10/11/2018 9:23 am : link
significantly this year, Miami maybe? I could see that before cancelling, but then again, that game was underway before the interruption.
Over rain, no matter how heavy, I doubt it
jcn56 : 10/11/2018 9:24 am : link
but if there's even a decent amount of lightning, there's a chance. There have been delays before, but I don't recall a game in the northeast being called over lightning.
LOL....
BillKo : 10/11/2018 9:25 am : link
they aren't cancelling any game, ever, due to heavy rain.

Now, lightening could delay it..............
What?

Like others have said
Br00klyn : 10/11/2018 9:32 am : link
It all depends on how much lightning there is. One thing is for sure, if they do play this game it is going to be ugly. they are forecasting up to 4 inches of rain today
Accuweather is showing a break
antdog24 : 10/11/2018 9:34 am : link
during the game.

In reality
dep026 : 10/11/2018 9:34 am : link
the game should be postponed until tomorrow. Unless, there is some function going on. 4 inches of rain, lightning throughout the night. Players playing on short rest.

The appeal would be nil for the majority of us if it werent the Giants. Its one thing to play in rain, its another to play then stop for lightning delay, then start up, then delay again.
They won't play through
Metnut : 10/11/2018 9:54 am : link
lightning but more likely they'd delay the game. I guess if there was lightning all night near the stadium they could postpone the game until either Friday night, or more likely, Sunday afternoon.
No worries
Cariboo : 10/11/2018 10:02 am : link
they’ll just close the retractable roof. Isn’t that what it was designed for?

Sunday is a no-go, we are letting that other team from New York use the stadium on Sunday afternoon

Oh please when it comes to severe ts's it takes precedence....
never happen
npd4432 : 10/11/2018 10:08 am : link
with the TV money along with the logistics of the operation of the stadium, I cannot see any game being postponed for rain.
Yeah, the NFL would let these guys play in a field
jcn56 : 10/11/2018 10:11 am : link
that has a land mine hidden somewhere in the field of play, so long as the lawyers clear it. I don't think they care about the short week or the rain.

I do think the majority of the rain is going to fall earlier (NYC has a flash flood warning in effect from noon until 6 AM tomorrow, and the forecast does seem to point to it cooling off in the middle there somewhere).
LOL @ the thought of the NFL cancelling the game.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 10/11/2018 10:15 am : link
Unless it's lightning, they'll be playing. The NFL only cares about one thing: $.
since when isn't football....
BillKo : 10/11/2018 10:28 am : link
..played in the pouring rain?

Sucks for fans, but that's the way it goes.

Player safety/rain never was ever a discussion point.

That made me LOL.
Only if Lightening during game for extended period of time with no
ZogZerg : 10/11/2018 10:41 am : link
relief in site.

So, NO, very unlikely.

They certainly wouldn't do it based on a weather forecast - LOL.

Haha well played
They'll have to have a mass radio campaign....

for the Eagles fans:

"You are safe in the rain. There is no soap in the water."
The only cancelations
upstatenyg : 10/11/2018 11:16 am : link
From recent memory were related to player travel, cancelled planes, or when the dome collapsed in Minny.

They otherwise may delay for a few minutes due to lightening.

There is no precedent for canceling a game in this scenario.
What does not cancelling the game
allstarjim : 10/11/2018 11:40 am : link
have to do with money? It's football. Part of the appeal of football is you play it in weather. The adversity of the weather in most stadiums is not only part of the game, it's a great part of the game.

Big deal, it's going to rain. If they were truly worried about that they could move the start time up to 7:00 pm and probably get the game in before the rain starts coming down.

BTW any goal of a for-profit enterprise is to make money. The NFL is more charitable than 99% of for-profit entities. Criticism of the NFL "caring about money" because they won't cancel a game because of RAIN? GTFOH. Comical.

Cancel the game?

Unless there's a literal hurricane in the area, they're not going to cancel the game. They'd delay it if there were lightning strikes in the area - but heavy rain isn't going to get an NFL game cancelled or postponed.

Did you not watch the Eagles/Lions game a few years ago? They were playing in like a foot of snow.

Some of the best NFL games have been ones in the elements with poor conditions.
Who said anything
mittenedman : 10/11/2018 12:08 pm : link
about rain? Accuweather is different but weather channel still showing 80%-90% chance of sustained thunderstorms. Thats lightning, not just rain.

I love football in the elements. Played HS ball in Vermont.

If this forecast is accurate, Postponing for an hour or two isnt going to help. I dont remember an extended forecast of lightning like this.

Weren't the Giants the one who vetoed that?
Plus the new stadium
Bubba : 10/11/2018 4:50 pm : link
has no where near the overhang coverage the old one did. Our prior seats were under cover.
The only way that happens
Matt M. : 10/11/2018 5:02 pm : link
is lightning. So far there is no sign of that, only rain.
