It will not be this one game that decides the immediate future of the franchise. However, all of the things that have happened over the last few years, their record, age of the QB, performance and opponent make this one of those moments in time to take note. Lose and this will be the end of the Eli Manning era. No one doubts he can still have a good game but to continue to lead this franchise he needs to be able string together multiple good performances. I am rooting like hell for him tonight. It would be great to see him raise his fists in victory one more time against this specific opponent.
The end of the Eli Manning Era is already here.

Good franchises know that you have to plan for the future before your left out. Eli may be the qb for the rest of the year (especially if we start to win). And even if we keep him next year, but the organization knows that he is out much sooner than later (due to age or play) and it is better to have his replacement lined up and ready if not now (Lauletta) then next season.

Smart teams that have done this:
49ers with Montana and Young
Packers with Farve and Rodgers
Chiefs with Smith and Mahomes
and maybe even Saints with Brees and Bridgewater

this game will determine if playoffs are still in the cards for this year.....but for the future of the franchise it's just another data point like all other games

Sorry to rain on your parade, but

the weather may put a damper on our ability to assess Mr. Manning.

lol...judging Mahomes after 5 games is comical.

Point is they did not wait for Smith to be done. They found a guy and sat him for a year (did not play last game) and then moved on.
We need to move on from Eli
Coach Red Beaulieu : 10/11/2018 11:03 am : link
The roster and coaching is not built for him.
Giants aren't making the playoffs

But this game will say a lot about the HC.

good or bad, Mahones is the future of KC.
If this team does not make

the playoffs, and they have a poor losing record, will DG and ownership have the balls to let Eli go next year, and save 17M?

The difference is, the Giants don't have that guy to take over for Eli.....but they would be idiots to draft a qb, and keep Eli to "mentor" a new qb......you use that 17M to bolster the OL, and hopefully Lauletta gets some serious playing time at the end of games this year, to show what he can/can't do.....

Sometimes you have to plan to suck for a few seasons to get your cap and roster on a better keel, rather than suck the way we have for the last 7, when our plan was not to suck at all....
The problem with cutting Eli next year
ron mexico : 10/11/2018 1:02 pm : link
Is you have to do it before you secure his replacement either in the draft or FA unless you want to eat 5 mil. You can't guarantee the guy you want will be available.

Unless we end up with the #1 pick that is.
