I think it all comes down to night. If the Giants can win tonight beating the Eagles the defending Super bowl champs who have owned the Giants for a decade the Division is there for the taking.
My keys to the game are IMHO our O line at least holding their own with the Eagles front seven. Stick with the run all night at least 25 attempts and plat-action.
Biggest factor is Eli. Will Eli revert to the deer in the head lights fumbling turn over machine or LEAD this team to a victory!
On D Shut down their second rate back up Running back lead running game. Some how cover TE Zack Ertiz.
Time for the Giants to take control of their season, man up Beat the crap out of the Eagles in the trenches!!!
I think I need a drink already....
That means they would have to go 8-1 or at worst 7-2 the rest of the way.
It ain't happnin.
8-8 could take the division this year
But, the Giants are the poster boys for crapping the bed after a Super Bowl season.
1987 (the non-replacement games) and 1991 were just plain ugly.
Still an uphill fight with a win, but we'd be technically ahead of the super bowl champs if that happened, so hope would be alive.
I'd be looking more for signs along lines of is PS the right guy for the job then I would be eying division title and playoffs.
The Eagles are all of a sudden a bad team? The defending Super Bowl Champions? I don't like the Eagles, but they lost to a very good Minnesota team by 2 points, to the Titans in Nashville by 3 points, and to Fitzmagic and the Bucs in Tampa by one score without Wentz.
The Eagles could very easily be 0-5 right now. They barely squeaked by the Falcons and Colts in games where the opponent had the ball inside the ten yard line at the end of the game. FWIW I thought they were a team that played wayyyyy over their heads last year and expected a big fall.
Still much better than the Giants, of course, but that ain't saying much.
Not saying Giants won't lose. Just saying Philly aren't good either.
I dont know if they have plenty of talent outside their front 4. Wentz is still struggling with movement and their OL has taken a huge step backwards. Jeffrey is a very good WR, but I like Jenkins matching up with him. Ertz should be the main focus for us. They have average RBs.
And their secondary is awful. I know its easier said than done, but contain their front 4 and you can put a lot of points on the board against them. With their OL struggling, I dont see the dominating force that took them to a title last year.
I got you though.
Philly's biggest strength is our weakness. Dl vs. OL. The problem is our DL good enough to take advantage of their worsen OL? Last year Philly probably had one of the 3 best OLs in football. This year, its been near the bottom.
A win against them is gonaa be a huge step forward for this team. Sometimes all it takes is a win to change things. We have probably already played the toughest teams on our schedule already. Look at who we have left...
5 division games
TB
Atl
SF
Tenn
Indy
Chicago
Chicago is probably the best team left on the schedule. There are winnable games left. It starts tonight.
GET IT DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
it starts tonight buddy, it starts tonight.
If they go 1-5, then Gettlemen/Shurmur starts looking like a disaster.
Think about how sad your first sentence is. We have been beaten into a fog of low expectations.

All I am hoping for is meaningful November Giant games. A win tonight will likely get us that. That’s where I’m at. Gun to my head, I think we lose badly tonight.

It's unfortunate but that's where my mindset is as well. Would just like to see some meaningful games after the bye week. That'd be a start

Yep
limit the scoring .
31-23 Giants ..
At least I will be at a bar ..in case it gets ugly but
i'm not seeing Philly dominating ..

in the NO game that I missed? A few people have mentioned it recently. We got severely outplayed.
Sean Peyton disagrees....hence if fake punt in a game that was about to get away from him.
A fake punt that was obvious I might add.
How was it obvious? deep in your own end, early in the game, face it no one expected it and it was brilliant! Changed the whole game around as the giants could have gotten a two score lead early!

It ain't happnin.
The Giants would be 2-4 not 2-5 with a win tonight. The way this division is going, 9-7 could win it so a 7-3 finish would be needed with at least 3 more wins in the division. IF IF IF this team were to win tonight, it wouldn't feel that impossible to think they could go 7-3 the rest of the way.

I predicted it before it happened.
Payton is a gambler, game was getting away from them, they were around the 30. It was obvious. Too me at least.
You didn't ask me, but in my case, neither. The standings have dictated they are in the hunt for one. They played a good game last week should've won, so there's that.
Whether they deserve to be or not, a win tonight with a little help from Jacksonville and Carolina on Sunday and we've got as good a shot as anyone else. Our schedule gets very easy down the stretch.
With a loss, its what date does Kyle L play. If they screw this up again where Alex freaking Tanney or WTF his name is who takes up a roster spot plays - we are doomed.
If they go 1-5, then Gettlemen/Shurmur starts looking like a disaster.
Jon, we are one game out of first place! We have better offensive weapons than anybody in the division. Our defense is already pretty damned good and we are getting our best pass rusher back tonight. Sure we have our warts, but so does every team in our division. A lot can happen in the next 12 weeks. I guess you forgot how the 2007 and 2011 seasons were before the playoffs.
This utterly defeatist attitude is just silly. Really no point in watching if that's the case.
I could be wrong, but I believe that narrative came from the idea that there was a missed holding penalty in the end zone on the Saints final drive that would have given the Giants the ball back down 6 with a few minutes to play.
I'm realistic, but I'm an optimist, as well. The Giants were a tick and a couple crap calls from beating the 1-loss Panthers. They were a couple plays from beating the Jags. They lost to the world champ Eagles last year twice in winnable games. Those things give me a small amount of hope that things might gel.
But lose tonight? Eh, ceremonially start Eli a few more games, get over the mid-season mark, just to make sure, then do the necessary evil of starting Lauletta, and beginning to say goodbye to the best quarterback the franchise has had.
Now if you think this team is a playoff team, then yes, you are what your record says you are, if we lose...
I am at the point where, I just want to see improvement each week, without taking a step backwards.....
By the end of the season, we should truly know what our strengths/weaknesses are, and can address them in the off season......
Doesn't this also assume every other team in the division doesn't improve? Dallas maybe, but it's far too early to count out Philadelphia.

If the Giants win tonight, they are the clear favorites to win the division.
I am trying to figure out why this statement would be true.

Same thing I keep saying as well.
I remember after that miserable 0-6 start in 2013, the next year rolled around and I was hoping to just at least be back in the playoff mix somehow in 2014.
Then it was like... well, maybe if we're still alive around Thanksgiving it won't be so bad.
Last year our season was over in September.
The standard has become pathetically low. It sucks.
