This is bad... I mean really bad...

Eric from BBI : Admin : 10/12/2018 12:48 am
I'm not sure I see a way out of this right now.

The team last year became infected with a loser mentality, and despite casting off a great deal of the roster, the core players still seem to have that same mentality. We can bitch and moan about the talent level all you want, but this team should not be this uncompetitive. It appears to me to be more than that... they looked disinterested tonight. Can Shurmur already be losing this team after just six games?

This is a very alarming situation. We are entering Cleveland Browns territory (at least the pre-2018 version of the Browns).

I don’t know how many times this needs repeating. The majority of fans weren’t mad about benching Eli last year. They were mad at benching Eli for Geno freaking Smith. Who stinks. Period. Way way way worse than Eli on his worst day. Eli’s era is coming to an end but if Geno Smith is the answer, no thanks. That was the issue.
I would fire sale the whole team for draft picks.

At this point the only player that would be safe is Barkley. And I mean literally every player would be up for trade if the right offer came through. The only guy that looked like he cared was Barkley.
People are very dramatic on here

things can turn around quickly with a couple OL and a QB.

Not suggesting finding them is simple, but it's not "I see now way out" territory.

I'll leave you with a poem.....

Quote:
We review...
all the fears and anxiety
...which are so
inherently symptomatic...
...of a losing team.
The mind is a strange thing, men.
We must begin by asking it...
..."What is losing?"

Losing is a disease...
...as contagious as polio.
Losing is a disease...
...as contagious as syphilis.
Losing is a disease...
...as contagious as bubonic plague...
... attacking one...
... but infecting all.
Ah, but curable.

Now, I want you to imagine...
...you are on a ship at sea...
...on a vast...
...calm ocean...
...gently rocking.
Gently rocking.
Gently rocking.
Gently rocking

They had Geno Smith and Davis Webb on the roster. It's not as if they could bench Eli for Aaron Rodgers, they had to play one of the guys they had. And they should have, except the Giants org is a bunch of chickenshits that caved when fans got upset.
OL will be a fine with a couple new lineman???

Haven’t we been saying that for nearly a decade?

What to do about the defense then? Lost in the offense suckitude.... is that theybsuck almost as bad.

ok.. and this shitty players we keep talking about are worth what exactly in a trade?

Even OBJ is not going to return what you think after he has pulled his pants down and exposed himself.
Fragile

That is how I will describe this team. Mentally soft. The long FG vs. Carolina was a heart breaker and it seems based on the performance last night they fold easy.

You cannot say this team has quit in games this year. The players and the scheme are just not a good combination.

I know you don’t want to hear it but the Eagles OL played like crap too yesterday and they steam rolled us. Why? Wentz can move and is simply much better than Eli at this point.

In sum, put Eli on the Eagles and I really don’t think he plays that much better. Give us Wentz and we become a dynamic offense.
And I supported 1 last try with Eli
UConn4523 : 10/12/2018 8:05 am : link
but it’s over. It won’t work, we tried, and we need to move on this off season. Love the guy, but he simply isn’t good enough anymore.

Nope. Again one is a journey man QB who is god awful. One is young and could be the future. If you thought Geno would help this team then I don’t know what to say. If you want to put Webb in there to see what he has, fine. But Geno freaking Smith. Come on. We all know he stinks. That’s not the answer. And a coach who thinks Geno is better than Eli, even old Eli, should not be a head coach. And that’s exactly what happened.

Which is particularly telling in that the better you know the giants the easier it is to throttle this offense, except for Barkley! What’s next? A redskin beat down?

the weather is beautiful for the weekend(hope everyone came through that Hurricane OK) and there's the added bonus of no Giants football for the next 2 Sunday's.
Having a rookie QB would not be changing a thing now
PatersonPlank : 10/12/2018 9:46 am : link
He'd be on the bench anyway. If he did play he'd be going through a learning curve. I like the Barkley pick, they guy is going to be the top RB in the league for a while.

I am onboard getting a QB high now, either the Oregon or West Virginia kid, whichever the coaches think is the best. I also do not believe the OL is as bad as it looks. Other teams lines aren't "top" either. The team has no confidence in Eli, and I'm sure the line feels they are doing better than it looks.

Unfortunately I think OBJ's comments, which I don't like by the way, might reflect the teams overall feelings.

The objective wasn't to see whether Geno Smith was the future. That much seems to continue to escape people. It was to see how the offense changed when it wasn't Eli in there. That would have given them some idea how much of it was Eli being done, and how much of it was attributable to personnel issues on offense.

And I would rather have seen Webb as well, but the overall point was you needed someone else in there for a couple of games to fairly evaluate Eli. That didn't happen, we retained him for an extra year, and we got this.

Get what we can. We could definitely get someone to over pay for a few of our “stars”.

THIS. What I saw in the second half was the defense making "business decisions". Barkley is the best RB I have ever laid eyes on. But he was the wrong pick then, and he's the wrong pick now. All of you who wanted Barkley over a QB - many because you thought Eli had "years left" and bought that narrative from DSG - are now getting what you deserve.

Quick fixes never work. We have a team that can't break the Cover 2. The Eagles are not even a cover 2 team, yet they go out and play it, and we all of a sudden can't make plays, even against bad, injured secondaries. it's comical. Our amazing RB put up 229 total yards tonight. And we scored 13 points and got blown out.

Totally disagree. Barkley was the correct pick. No rookie QB could stem this pressure.

The Mara’s are Back in total control. So yeah. Expect more of this since their utter lack of football acumen led to that era and this one. Deja Vu all Over again

That's a defeatist mentality. Mayfield doesn't look overwhelmed. This OL is workable with a better QB. Or even one that simply isn't damaged goods and doesn't know better than to take chances. Assuming nobody else could have done better isn't a good path to take.
Speculation
Thegratefulhead : 10/12/2018 9:10 pm : link
Suppose the film were to be showing Eli in a poor light and Shurmur is not holding Eli accountable. That is about the only thing I can think that would cause Shurmur to begin to lose the team this fast. I am not saying the is what is going on Eric, but it could explain it.
QB change spark
Thegratefulhead : 10/12/2018 9:13 pm : link
If the young QB were mobile and were to bail out the OL a time or two by making "off schedule" plays, it might inspire people and give them a spark? This is not a crazy idea as I have seen it happen.
