Head Coach Pat Shurmur
Postgame vs. Eagles
October 11, 2018

Opening Remarks: We all just watched it, we didnít do anything well enough to win tonight. Credit Philadelphia, good football team that took advantage of things that we didnít do well, got ahead on the points. We didnít score enough points, we didnít keep them off the board, we didnít do anything well enough to win, so go back to the drawing board. We go to work tomorrow, try to clean it up, then get ready for our next one. Thatís the reality of it, and weíve got to own it and move on.

Q: What happened at the end of the first half with Odell (Beckham) walking out to go to the locker room?
A: He had an IV. Just dehydrated again.

Q: He couldnít stay on the field for the last play?
A: He went back in the locker room.†

Q: Is there something he can do to prevent that from happening?
A: Some guysí bodies dehydrate quicker than others, so we just have to keep looking for ways to make sure he stays hydrated.

Q: You said you talked to the guys about their emotional displays, (Odell) head-butted a cooling fan-
A: I didnít see that. He canít do that. He shouldnít do that.

Q: What did you think of your teamís overall effort?
A: My guys fought. Absolutely, everybody fought. We got beat by a good team, we didnít score enough points, they scored way more than us. Nothing wrong with the effort, they fought hard all the way to the end.

Q: It looked like Eli (Manning) was under a lot of duress. Did the (offensive line) have a bad night tonight?
A: At times. Theyíre a good front four, we knew going into it that thatís where their defense is the strongest, and at times they did do a good job against us.

Q: That sequence where you were backed up first and 20, second and 20, it seemed like the cameras caught you upset. Did you want Eli to push the ball downfield more there?
A: Iím sure the cameras could have caught me upset a bunch of times tonight.

Q: In that particular moment?
A: I donít know what youíre referring to, but yeah, there were many moments that I was upset.

Q: It looked like you yelled ďthrow the ballĒ at second and long.
A: Really? I donít remember that. I donít recall that, but Iím sure Iíll have to see it and weíll figure it out from there.

Q: Is there a level of concern about Eli though? I know the blocking has not been good, but heís been off-target.
A: No, Iím not concerned about Eli. Like I said, none of us did anything good enough to win tonight.

Q: Why do you think the Eaglesí offense was able to move the ball so easily against the defense tonight?
A: They did a good job of staying on the field, there werenít a whole lot of big plays aside from the one where Ė again, Carson Wentz does a good job off-schedule to hit a deep ball. They converted on third downs, they were 9 for 16 on third downs, so when youíre that good on third downs and you can stay on the field, then you give yourself a chance.

Q: Why do you think it was so difficult to find Odell down the field?
A: They were clouding Odell, and thatís why we did get a couple big plays away from him. He did get his touches, I realize some of it was at the end, but he got a couple touches. What we were able to do was get the ball to (Saquon) Barkley throughout the game, and he was productive.

Q: What did you say to the team after the game to try and clean some of this stuff up?
A: I just told the team what I told you guys Ė we didnít do anything well enough and weíre going to come in tomorrow and work on fixing it.

Q: How unexpected was tonightís effort after Sundayís?
A: I just said Iím not worried about their effort. Didnít he ask me about effort? Then I said I wasnít concerned about their effort, here we go again. I wasnít concerned about their effort. Iím concerned about how we executed, how we didnít get in the end zone, and how we let them in the end zone.

Q: Last week it seemed like a lot of guys, despite the loss, were upbeat, everyone said you were getting closer.
A: Yeah, and I think we are. Again, tonight we didnít do well enough to win.

Q: So was this a step back, then?
A: We lost. We lost last week, too, right? We lost last week, and it doesnít really matter Ė when you lose, you lose.

Q: How do you make sure this doesnít spiral out of control like last year? Youíre 1-5, obviously not where you want to be.
A: Just keep working, and you trust the locker room to do the right thing.

Q: You expected the team to be galvanized after last week.
A: I think we are. We got beat by a good team and we didnít play well enough. I donít think we need to overthink that.
I just watched the 1st and 20 sequence again.

Eli threw 3 passes a grand total of ZERO yards beyond the line of scrimmage.
Well...

At least he didn't answer 45 times how he'll have to look at the tape. That's a step up from McAdoo at least. Barely.
The effort was there?

How about the tackling of our ST's?

How about the tackling of our DB's?

The defense was definitely going through the motions in the second half...

And the OL? It looked like they were just being overpowered by 4 guys, leaving 7 in coverage....

Schurm answers nothing directly.....but of course, what is he going to say? Our guys suck?....I couldn't motivate my guys? They came out flat....we need to score more points....Really?

This year we have a healthy OBj, SS, and added Barkley, replaced the OL, and in 4 of 6 games, we could not break the 18 point barrier?

Looking at the "effort" out there, this team is in a death spiral....
Accountability
greek13 : 10/12/2018 8:06 am : link
Is it used evenly? Is everyone on the team accountable ? Things we donít know out here - if not - the culture eroded and mayhem ensues - obj is an issue -team behavior? Glad he was fined

Now how bad do certain players have to play before they sit and ate held accountable ? Not just goof old Ereck Flowers

Btw Mara - omg - what a chicken shit -

If you sat everyone who didn't play

well enough to earn their spot, I think you would have only 5 or 6 guys on the field.

The problem with the roster is not that there are not playmakers. Barkely, Beckham and Engram can all make plays. The problem is that this team doesn't even have enough passable players. There are too many guys on this team that are just very poor players. An influx of JAGs would actually help. Some of the guys we are rolling out as starters on the Oline and in our secondary would possibly not make many other rosters in the NFL. They are just not NFL talents.

Is that true on the OL now? We paid to get Solder and Omameh, both starters on other teams. Hernandez was drafted with the 2nd pick in the 2nd round. Greco had been both a reserve and starter prior to coming here. With the exception of Wheeler, I don't really think that applies.

Depth in the secondary on the other hand...
