At seasons end does he retire ( imo he should but who am I) or does he look for another team.
How does this play out? Which team ( If any) will commit to him?
He will look for another team assuming no health changes. But he’ll have as much success finding a starting job as Coughlin had finding another head coaching job so question is whether he will swallow his pride and backup Bortles or Prescott or will he call it a day? I think if he genuinely believes he can still play he will take a backup role
crap. 1. the trend across the league in mediocre to poor OL. and 2. even with a run game, he's showing he no longer has what it takes to be successful.
It happens, not everyone is Brees or Brady. Most QBs are done at 37. Phil Simms was for example. Marino played if I remember to 38, but was not very good his last year.
This "I can play into my 40's" was always a ridiculous pipe dream
If cut, he is free to negotiate any deal he can get....
But whether traded, cut, or retires, he represents 6.2M in dead money for the Giants....
As I said, in the right situation, I think he can still play.....the Giants, with their OL, are not
I think Giants#1 is right.
The aquiring team is only on hook for the prorated amount of his $10 mil salary (and next years roster bonus and salary but if they cut him at the end of the year there will be ho dead cap)
Giants will be on the hook for his 2019 prorated signing bonus less the pro rated amount of his 2018 salary.
Because that is my family team. And I’ll also root like hell for Eli. Problem?
So you will watch the Giants and root for another team...okay
I don't know how anyone could have gone through the last 15 years as a Giants fan and not have a strong attachment to Eli. I've spent his entire career getting crap from my friends for defending him. This last few years have been the worst.
If it can't be here (and I don't see how it could be), I would love for Eli to go elsewhere and have a last hurrah in a better situation.
He won't be cut until the end of the year to save Â

Eli is not Brees or Brady, obviously, but both those guys have significantly better block OLs.

I like Eli but I like the Giants more.. In the NFL you can't get attached to any player
I'd root for Eli assuming he doesn't stay inside the division Â
I hate to see him go out like this, but it hasn't worked with him here for awhile. Some is on him, some is on the team, but the combo of the two doesn't work regardless.
I do not think he will go to another team because he has little value and he is not going to accept a back up role.
It would be wise for the Giants to accelerate Lauretta’s practice snaps. Get him on the field as soon as possible. Save Eli the embarrassment of having to play out the string.
Yes, and totally agree. I know some like to act like the uniform is greater than any one player, but I grew up with Eli. That uniform that decorates my Dad’s office. Eli has draped that uniform in glory twice. I mean, give me a break if I’m attached to Eli to the point where I’d wish him success elsewhere. But I can still root for the Giants. At least my attachment comes from the heart. Not like my knuckleheaded brothers who root for other teams and players so they’d win their fantasy points.
What team is going to roll the dice that a 38 year old QB who has been awful magically becomes good again? What near contender is going to bet their season on that?
And I’m sure many other intelligent football minds out there can plainly see, put Eli behind a serviceable Oline and he will get it done. How quickly people forget last week’s fourth quarter comeback drives.

There's "mediocre", "poor" and then us. "Mediocre" would be an improvement.

The problem is in today's NFL you only have a few of those teams. Jaguars and Cowboys come to mind as fits, but outside of them who is he going to play for in today's NFL with zero mobility?
If he's a free agent and wants to work for a reasonable salary Â
I think he would have some chance to move somewhere else. But I think his options if he has any will be very limited. The Jags need a QB. Denver needs a QB. There may be a few others.
But I think Dallas would rather eat salad than have Eli under center for them. I think we would all be very surprised by the team, if this ever came to pass, that would call for him.
to have to ride of into the sunset at some point. The question is does he do it gracefully or kicking and screaming. His personality would indicate the former.
I would love to see that, and will root for him.
Out of curiosity, will you follow Eli there?
After a year or two off, he has the football smarts to do something in a front office or even coaching if he still has the football "bug".
I perceive he has self confidence, but I also think he is not delusional.

So acquiring team takes on 6 mil of cap
Giants will be about a net wash.
But its not happening for soo many reasons
