Free Agent Offensive Lineman After The Season

EricJ : 10/12/2018 12:03 pm
I believe that this line needs to be fixed via free agency. Yes, we can draft another guy like Hernandez but we need a couple of bodies for next season because I think we can agree that the entire right side needs to be replaced.

I am attaching a list of the free agent OLs after this season. I am not an expert in the area of OL and do not pay close attention to many of those guys on other teams as I do with other position.

For those who do, take a look at the list and let us know who would be on your wish list. Please take salary into consideration.

Solder and Omameh?

With that, the question remains what the hell is wrong with Solder, he has been as bad as the rest of the line and is giving up a sack a game, pretty much like Flowers!

Going the desperation FA route again?
BigBlueinChicago : 10/12/2018 12:13 pm : link
Free Agency is not how you build this. You are paying market price in a supply and demand environment.

That is how you end up with Nate Solder getting a record contract and have him still being the worst left tackle in your own division. That is how Omaheh gets $5 million when he is no better than John Jerry.

You cannot escape this vicious cycle unless you draft these guys.
If youre going to spend big market money on an OL.

it should be for a young one, similar to OVs age (25) when we signed him. Anyone else should be picked up during the 2nd or 3rd wave of FA, as depth with the skill set to start as needed
That's why I find it hard to believe they thought
jcn56 : 10/12/2018 12:16 pm : link
they needed to tear it down.

If they did - then they needed to divest some more expensive assets, not sign guys like Omameh and Stewart, and stick to finding strategic improvements at whatever position they could find them.

In other words - if your choices were signing a good corner in FA over a mediocre LT for similar money, even if the need for LT was greater. With the understanding you weren't going anywhere this year you punt the LT until next year, when you can either draft one or sign one in FA (if a better one is available).
I would like to see us sign a RT and a G during FA

period and then drafting a center in rounds 2 or 3. Need PR and more depth in secondary to get things turned around so we can compete at a higher level.
I think it's also important to note that OL play across the league
jcn56 : 10/12/2018 12:20 pm : link
has declined significantly. So part of the offensive design has to take that into consideration, that finding premium OL parts is not going to be easy, and that we're likely not going to be able to built the bruising OL that everyone is hoping for.

You can point to teams like the Cowboys - but they sunk a lot of money and draft picks over several years to accomplish that, and what did it buy them exactly? That OL is starting to show some cracks, and if it doesn't improve when Frederick is cleared then that window was awfully small.

No shit ..flowers can let people run around him for a lot less money
FA in '19

What would be the lure to come here? Better drafting is what is needed.
Solder and Hernandez will be on the team next year
Anakim : 10/12/2018 12:28 pm : link
But OC, RG and RT are all up for grabs

They should have drafted guard / center
larryflower37 : 10/12/2018 12:36 pm : link
in the 3rd and/or 4th round this past draft.
This line needs to come from the draft.
2nd and 3rd round next year needs to be linemen
My target
Jay on the Island : 10/12/2018 12:36 pm : link
Ja'wuan James for RT plus Nick Easton for C.
So, they need a LT, C, RG, and RT.
RottenApple : 10/12/2018 12:38 pm : link
Pretty much the same as the past few seasons. This organization is drowning in futility and it starts with their spineless owner.

Capt. Don : 10/12/2018 12:39 pm : link
Solder
Hernandez
Matt Paradis/Mitch Morse
Carpenter/Rookie
JaWuan James/Bobbie Massie

Can't say I've ever keyed in on James, but this isn't promising:

Dolphins OC Dowell Loggains is looking for more consistency from OT JaWuan James
Quentin Spain to Right Guard

And Scwenke or Morse at Center
Draft a RT in second round
Need to replace the 3/5ths of the line
Simms11 : 10/12/2018 1:34 pm : link
Center needs to be a significant signing. Also need a Guard and RT. Wheeler has been OK and might be developing, but I'm not sure he's the answer there. Need to build this line from the middle out. Center is so critical and we haven't really had a decent one since we had O'Hara here.

Schwenke has only started 5 games since 2016 and none this year.

OC, Larsen, may be an option. I think he's a DG guy.
OL
Jerry in DC : 10/12/2018 1:48 pm : link
will look a lot better with a qb who can move. Right now, if any of the 5 guys gets beat even a little bit, it results in a fall down or throw away.
I agree that it would be nice to build it in the draft..
EricJ : 10/12/2018 2:52 pm : link
but we dont have that kind of time. Reese fucked us and we need more than one body now.

i like Morse but he will command a contract similar to Richburg's. He is reportedly having a slow start to the season as well. I would rather bring in a cheap option like Nick Easton to compete with Evan Brown who could surprise.

True, sign a RT and a cheap guard or center in free agency then use the draft to draft a guard or center plus a developmental OT to groom behind Solder.
The Giants should also bring in former early picks
Jay on the Island : 10/12/2018 3:13 pm : link
either OT Jake Fisher or G AJ Cann and hope that a change of scenery helps unlock their potential. Both of them would likely settle for a 1 year deal near the minimum.
Saffold and Easton might be two

Ali Marpet. Gut is a beast but he just signed a 5 year 55 mil deal with 27 guaranteed. Not too much for one of the best interior lineman in football

I wanted him in the draft. He has developed into a great player.
