Trade OBJ?

Grey Pilgrim : 10/12/2018 12:20 pm
At what point does the team give up on him due to his on the field performance (or lack there of) and off the field/sideline behavior?

Anyone think this is even a possibility?
Not a possibility

He just signed a huge contract and you are trying to trade him when his stock is low. Makes no sense.
Welp.....
BigBlue22 : 10/12/2018 12:22 pm : link
I'm just going to sit tight with my popcorn on this one....
And what do you think he'd garner in a trade?
Grey Pilgrim : 10/12/2018 12:22 pm : link
Just wondering...
I'd rather they try to work with it first
jcn56 : 10/12/2018 12:22 pm : link
From a cap standpoint, they likely can't trade him this quickly because of the guaranteed money he got.

If both Barkley and Beckham turn out to be generational talents, someone should be able to build a functional offense around them. I don't know if that someone is currently employed by the Giants, but we can at least try and hope that they are.
They just

signed him to a six year contract worth 95 mil why would they trade him and who would want to take on that contract?
Trading him
Mike from Ohio : 10/12/2018 12:24 pm : link
would also be a tacit acknowledgement that you don't think Shurmur can coach/control him. If that's the case, maybe you also need to look for a new head coach.
Should have never signed him..
Sean : 10/12/2018 12:25 pm : link
but I would absolutely trade him. Need to move on from the Beckham era. He’s a distraction & I’m just over it.
I'm not sure of the exact number
ron mexico : 10/12/2018 12:26 pm : link
but the cap hit would be huge. Like $40 mil huge

You cant sign a player to a long term deal then trade him
They should trade everyone BUT OBJ, Collins and Barkley
larryflower37 : 10/12/2018 12:30 pm : link
Only 3 showing any heart in this disaster.
This team is wasting talent with the horrible supporting cast.

Trade him when the constant losing doesn't bother him anymore
Trade him for what reason?
PhilSimms15 : 10/12/2018 12:39 pm : link
I just don't understand the crowd that wants to trade Odell. He is a generational talent. He is extremely competitive. He cares about the team and winning. His call on Eli while it should not have been public, was right on. (Even Coach Shurm was yelling for Eli to "throw the ball."

Frankly, then need more players like Odell. Yes, he is outspoken. Yes, he is emotional. But don't we want players who give a damn?
What’s going to happen when
NikkiMac : 10/12/2018 12:42 pm : link
The giants lose games next year .....what’s left to headbutt ,is he going to have the patience with a rookie QB mistakes.... I don’t think so..... Trade him now I say and I say it reluctantly because I really would rather see him on our team........

OBJ has had 3 coaches and no one has been able to control him. So we keep changing coaches until we get one that can. It doesn’t work that way. You trade him!

this idea that beckham is a generational WR. Enough already. Spare me the stats through 50 games argument. Means nothing. Passing statistics in this era are inflated. Eli's #s will lead you to believe he's a top ten QB of all time. Apply this theory to Odell.

He is not the best WR in football. Hey may not be a top 3 wr in football. The man needs to see a therapist or a psychiatrist. He's a fucking moron and the more Barkley becomes a fan favorite the more Odell will act out for attention.

That anybody still defends this petulant child is a disgrace.

wrong. he is part of the cultural problem surrounding the giants. Anybody who has played competitive sports has played with someone like this.

Sure, maybe Sterling Shepard likes him because he helps him get pussy but you think any "adult" on the giants enjoys playing with Odell. He's a cancer. Plain and simple.

I agree that he lacks emotional control but to say that he won't help a rookie qb? Is he going to purposely drop balls or run the wrong routes? Obj has the talent to 'make' a mediocre qb look better.

I think the concern is that OBJ will not be patient will a rookie's development and will put pressure on the rook to force him the ball.
I doubt you can trade him or win with him
Josh in MD : 10/12/2018 1:03 pm : link
He's a scintillating talent but so narcissistic and emotionally disturbed he'll be a disruption to any program.
We need to trade John Mara for any other owner not named Dan Snyder, and start over.

How you act
jvm52106 : 10/12/2018 1:04 pm : link
in adversity says more about you than in times of prosper. OBJ is not a leader and will never be a leader.

Barkley is the man we should build around.
no, you don't trade OBJ
Gregorio : 10/12/2018 1:07 pm : link
He's too damn good. Do you really care that he talks to the fan on the sideline? He's emotional and passionate about the game. Yeah, he needs a strong leader to keep his ass straight, but you don't give up on him.

Reality is NYG just signed him to a multi-year mega contract and they want him right here.

Now, if some team is willing to way overpay a ridiculous king's ransom, I'd consider it.

he's not dogging it
fkap : 10/12/2018 1:08 pm : link
he's doing what they ask him to do.
When the coaches figure out how to run an offense, he'll be part of the solution.

his public banter isn't nearly a big a detriment to the team as is the team sucking ass big time. he's not the one holding it back. The team is holding OBJ back.

I disagree, i think he'd welcome the much needed change at qb and if he pressures the new qb to feed him the ball so what? He is a game changer and we've seen it many times.

Giants cap hit on a trade after the season would be $16M
AnnapolisMike : 10/12/2018 1:13 pm : link
The acquiring team would be on the hook for his salary of $16,750,000 for 2019 and $2,750,000 of his 2020 salary if they cut him after 2019.

Really...that would not be a bad deal for a team that need a WR to complete a team.

The cap hit to release him is $35,500,000 or something like that...

GeofromNJ : 10/12/2018 1:16 pm : link
You play a quarterback that can get the ball to him.
The mindset of this offense needs to change
KerrysFlask : 10/12/2018 1:17 pm : link
And force feed obj and saquon the ball.

Sorry Engram, shep, etc.

These guys need the ball in their hands. If it doesn't translate to wins, at least obj will shut up.

If you need to feed a player to get him to shut up...then you are already screwed.
