Obviously, an awful play for Solder but what I saw was Eli move forward because he sensed Bennett coming. My interpretation was that Eli knew what was happening but failed to secure the ball and fumbled when he was hit, which was very disappointing. Do you agree that Eli knew Bennett was about to hit him? or was it a classic blindside hit?
Eli had plenty of mistakes but I can't believe he's being blamed for a fumble when tackled by a blindside rusher.
you can blame Solder, rightfully so, but I have never thought Eli had much pocket presence or awareness...it's almost like he is surprised when he is sacked...
Honestly, with the amount he is getting hit, I am not sure why he wants to be in the game anymore. I pretty much cringe every time he drops back to pass now.
+1.. this was as much Eli's fault as Solder.. In 2018 NFL.. there are may be 5 LT who don't let that happen every now and then.. Solder probably let the same thing happen a few times last year and Brady would've moved up like any good QB and no one remembers Solder's bad play.. with Eli, not only does he not move up, but he doesn't secure the ball and fumbles..
Yes this is very common across the board.. Solder is an average LT and right now he is playing like an average LT.. Eli makes all his mistakes look really bad.. Also Pats did offer him big money and wanted him back.. he just got more from the desperate giants..
