Eli is 4 losses away from a .500 reg season record

sb from NYT Forum : 10/12/2018 1:25 pm
After 2012 he had a .577 record. Really reinforces how horrible the past 6 years have been. If he ends up sub .500 you gotta think it will affect his HoF chances.

I’ll delete if this isn’t worthy of its own thread.
Sadly, I think Eli is destined to finish his

career at .500 or lower. Last 5 years have not been kind to him and it may impact his chances of getting in. I personally think he needed a solid year this year to cement his chances. I think he's currently borderline HoF, but could be a number of ballots before he gets his due.
He won

He's gonna make the HOF. Maybe not first ballott, but he will eventually get in. Rings, Stats, intangibles. Shoo-in.
I think his HOF chances are already in trouble
AnnapolisMike : 10/12/2018 1:30 pm : link
I really think Eli needed one more good season to cement his HOF chances. If you take a step back...outside of 3-4 seasons...Eli has been a very average QB. I'm no longer sure two SB MVP's will get him into Canton.
It's painful to watch a great player decline...
BamaBlue : 10/12/2018 1:36 pm : link
Eli was a great player. The decline is MUCH more personal when it's someone who has done so much to elevate the team you love. Eli doesn't diminish his accomplishments, but he is responsible (in part) for the crapshow 5 out of the last 6 years. It's not going to get better with him under center... some, not all is his fault.

I'm firmly convinced that his last playoff victory will be the 2011 super bowl game... And that's a sad probability for every Giants fan.
This is the first time I have felt this since pre-2007.

7th in TDs
6th in pass completed
6th in yards
11th in fourth quarter comebacks
2 SB MVPs.

Very average.

Will recognize the two super bowl runs were fuelled primarily by a resurgence in the Giants defense in the playoffs. RW McQuarters picking off Romo in the end zone Webster picking off Favre the Giants D limiting the high powered patrio offense to 14 points and 17 points respectively shutting out the falcons, forcing turnovers in San Fran. People remember the helmet catch and the Manningham pass but understate just how good those defensive units played in the postseason

Hall of Fame moments...

... but not a Hall of Fame career.

Six years ago he was arguably heading to being a first ballot HOFer. He amazingly played himself out. Stunning.

Eli Manning is unquestionably a Hall of Fame QB
I agree

I think his HOF chances are slipping away and I have been for years arguing that he is a HOF QB.
I hope he ends over .500

Would be a lousy end for the greatest Giant.
Eli is a really good player...

who got really hot for 8 weeks in his career and that led to 2 SBs. Otherwise, he's been the epitome of average.

I don't think he should have any HoF chances. But I think the Manning name, the east coast vote influence, the anti-Pats vote, will push him through. Thus, another player in a fairly long list who really should not be in Canton except to see his brother's bust...

Giants are embarrassed to be associated with you.
It's really strange...

No he hasnt. This is simply not true in any shape or form. Between 2014-2016 he was top 5 in the NFL in yards and TDs.

JFC. People just make shit up just to sound smart.

rocco8112 : 10/12/2018 2:03 pm : link
a Giant fan and Eli Manning fan this is the saddest thing to me. That Eli will end with a career losing record. This I never would have thought possible.

Also, the defense carried the team in 2007 amd 2011? False. Anyone thinking this must have watched different games. Sure in 2007 the D was legit and it was Eli who raised his game as the stakes got higher and led the team to a title. 2011 Eli and the passing game carried the team. That team I think was ranked 32 in rushing and had a negative point differential. Eli set, and holds, the NFL record for 4th quarter TD passes that season and passing yardage in a playoff run. This tells me he came through in the clutch all year and that the passing game was the engine driving playoff success.

Why would any Giant fan want to diminish some of the greatest achievements in team history by the greatest QB in team history. Sure he is football old now and is cooked, but to diminish and rewrite the past? Why? Eli may suck now, but he is still the GOAT Giant in my book.

That said, I thought he would be a lock for Canton, the way this is all ending I no longer think he will be in the HOF.

Just fucking wow...WTF is wrong with you? I thought it was time to move on from Eli. Please do not ever confuse or lump me in with shit like this.

and it ALWAYS does.

No one is going to remember the shittiness of the Giants in the 6 years after he retires. They will look at stats, rings, playoffs, and longevity. Does anyone care or remember the shitty way Dan Fouts career ended?
he is a shoe in.

6th in all time yards

7th in TDs

beat Brady twice in SB.

Never missed a game ***

Or Willie Mays?

Or Joe Namath (who is under .500 btw)?

Eli is a HOF QB, maybe not first ballot, but he'll be there one day.
Perception is a problem.

league and his stats are over hyped by the amount of years he has played. I love Eli and glad we had him but in my mind he was never better than Simms as a player.

I'm not sure why this boils your blood. This is a discussion about Eli's HoF credentials. Should I simply roll over and join the lemmings who simply say yes because Eli wears a Giants jersey? Please.

Look, I'm in the camp that the HoF - for every sport - should be very, very difficult to join and a lot of good players should therefore be left out. And for me, Eli has always fallen short. The regular season stats just aren't prodigious enough for me to say it's definitive. And I'm not going to be fooled by an eight week stretch.

So longevity doesn't count??

To me, it certainly does. Maybe Eli's just a "stats compiler"......I think surviving and playing in the NFL for a long time, at that position, is worth a lot.
If he gets in, who else
oldutican : 10/12/2018 4:16 pm : link
from his era gets in? Brees and Brady obviously. Ben for sure if Eli gets in. Rivers?
Eli's greatest attribute his durability
Vanzetti : 10/12/2018 8:07 pm : link
Circa 2008-11, he was arguably close to a top 5 QB. But most of his career he was been around 10th best.

He has never been in a class with Brees, Brady, Rogers. But he never missed a game, which gives a team continuity and is often overlooked.

Yeah, 6th. ALL TIME in passing yards, 7th ALL TIME...
Crispino : 10/12/2018 11:16 pm : link
in touchdowns, 2 Super Bowl MVP’s in two Super Bowl victories. Thirty franchises, excluding the Pats, would kill for that kind of production from their franchise QB. So the haters can STFU. It’s easy to pile on Eli now, in the twilight of his career and on a horrendous team. But to denigrate his career now is revisionist and lousy, and plain fucking stupid.
He would be wise, imo, to walk away
micky : 10/12/2018 11:56 pm : link
from the game now, than continue to tarnish what he had built in his career. Saying that, no competitive player ever feels they are done..that's eli..a competitor

I agree with the first sentiment, not the second. Sadly I do agree he is a big reason the last 2 seasons turned out the way they did. But, not the 4 seasons before last. Those seasons he actually played at a high level and belied their overall records. It was also him and OBJ, as much as the D, that got them to the playoffs in 2916.
