So I'm watching the Jets game and I see Luck have an intentional grounding called against him. The ref said "ball will be placed at the spot of the foul" and lo and behold it's 2nd and 21. I've always known it as a loss of 10 yards and a down. Did the rule change? Was it always at the spot of the foul or is it 10 yards OR the spot of the foul whichever is further? Thanks for the help!
Interesting, I never knew that. Probably because QBs aren't usually 10 yards behind the LOS. But that makes sense otherwise the players would just take the intentional grounding if they are more than 10 yards behind the LOS. Thanks.
