since the problems go deeper than these two. If the Giants can land a top QB in the draft, then sure, bring back Eli and let him learn behind him for a while. Regardless of how loud the clamoring from fans would be in Eli's first bad game. I'd rather see a new QB sit behind Eli for a year than some random veteran FA QB who will suck just as much as Eli.
Yes for Eli. Extend him for 2 years.
Shurmur should be given the time at least for next season. I would prefer that he remain at least for 3 years. It is difficult to change the culture and remove the malaise that has infected this team.
walk everyone out of the building. Go out, hire either an established former GM or an up and comer, give them free reign to rebuild this thing, and let them go from there.
I'd let that guy decide what to do with the QB and the rest of the personnel. And if I were John Mara, knowing how I was somewhat responsible for the current state of affairs, I'd make sure that the extent of my family's involvement in football operations is limited only to asking how everything's going.
..are they firing the new coach and/or GM after one year. Nor should they.
What happens with Manning after this season depends on the final record if he gets to play out the final year in his contract
shown us nothing. Looks like th team does not even practice. The GM made 3 of the worst signings ever. In a sport that bad signings really hurt. Not so sure the OBJ signing was a good one yet. The D-coordinator has done nothing. This is the same exact defense as the last 4 years. They can not get off the field on 3rd down. Zero turnovers and very few sacks. Special teams are a joke. I was watching games today where the QB was 7 for 8 on 3rd downs. We are 1 and 16. I am totally sick of this and would like to just start new. Clean house, get rid of the malcontents and lets watch the team at least look like they are having a little fun.
I guess Giants “fans” thought DG would undue 8 years of Reese’s shitty decisions in one off-season.
I doubt anyone thought that. But at least lets see something different. Maybe like a real play. What could he have looked at that would have made him sign Solder, Omameh and Stewart? That will hurt us for the next 2 years as well as grooming a new QB if Eli doesnt do a 180

+1 this team shows no capacity to adjust to what the other team is doing at all, numerous missed assignments 9n offense and defense. The only difference I’ve seen on this team is Barkleyand he seems to do it all on his own. No real effort to get the ball to Beckham, etc. And as for Parcells, that was a different era almost 37 years ago, things change quickly I don’t want to become the Browns ( though we’re almost there) I don’t want to compound what I perceive as a huge mistake by hanging onto these guys too long. Time for change these guys have failed miserably if not for those TO’s by Houston this team is 0-6.

Here we go again with the "fans".
How about this one - most of the scouts are still the same.
So the same guys who were helping Reese and Ross make the picks are now responsible for feeding intel to Gettleman and Konz.
Do you expect widely varying results? Does it not concern you that our FA acquisitions this year were pretty bad, despite spending a pretty penny on them?
You guys need to find whatever ostrich hole in the sand you have your head buried in (being generous here) and get it out of there.
Eli will not be on this team next year. They can take the massive cap savings and re-invest in the o-line and defense.
As for Shurmur, it sets a bad precedence firing a coach after one season. I hated the Gettleman hire, and would prefer they replace him first, but I would also not want to force a coach on a GM. What a disaster...

Solder was the best OL on the market after Norwell. DG offered Norwell, Norwell signed w JAX. He couldn’t force Norwell to sign here. Omameh was an OL w solid experience from a good unit in 17. He hasn’t worked out. DG signed Stewart as safe, vet depth in the event Barkley wasn’t available or there was an injury. I guess you forgot how bad the RBs were last year.
It’s easy to armchair these decisions after the fact, but they made sense at the time. The OL was trash and it was slim pickings in FA.

If you’re so blind to think the philosophy and personnel decisions of this administration are the same as the Reese era I don’t know what to tell you.
It’s obvious what DG is trying to do. It’s just going to take time to get the pieces. The Giants didn’t have enough picks last year to fix it all.
I'm indifferent

You want to waste 17M on Eli mentoring someone? Just like wasting money on Stewart to be a positive influence in the locker room....
You only keep Eli if you think he can be effective with a bad OL........think he can be effective behind a bad OL? What the hell are you going to learn from that?

I understand the philosophy of the signings but it needs to make sense. I can't possibly forget how bad every position was last year. And yet here we are again. Probably one of the 3 worst teams in the league. Personally I think this mess is that the players are out of control

How much money are they going to save by getting rid of Eli and then replacing him with a veteran free agent? Because you sure as hell aren't trotting Lauletta out there next season as your starter. Not unless if he gets a solid amount of playing time this season and actually shows something.
Shurmur should be given the time at least for next season. I would prefer that he remain at least for 3 years. It is difficult to change the culture and remove the malaise that has infected this team.
Time to go younger and innovative, today’s NFL has passed these guys by and it’s time for the giants to change things up.

Won't happen though.

...I doubt that's even a question.
He'll retire or be fired.
As for the Head Coach. I want him out but I defer to numerous BBIers I respect who have gone on record that we need to give him more time.
Time will tell.
But Eli is a goner.
They need to replace 4 OL starters (everyone but Hernandez) ... they also need a pass rush. Too much for one off-season.

It's a multi-year rebuild.
Unless the guy is a freaking jerk off like Steve Spurrier was with the Redskins you don't dump the coach after one season

Imagine if bill parcells (not saying ps is near him) was fired in 83' like he was just about to be?
Not a good early return on him, but give this coach a chance
