Tiebreaks
=============
The tiebreak for the draft order is strength of schedule. When comparing with another team one only has to consider the games they don’t have in common and total up the number of wins by those non-common opponents. I do not use a “if the season ended today” approach as that ignores the fact when the comparison is made the common opponents won’t matter (once the schedule is complete).
Vs. 1-5 teams: The Giants are trending to win the tiebreak against OAK, they have lesser advantage vs. ATL, ARI, and IND. (The lower number is better for NYG). It's certainly possible that the NYG-IND tiebreak could flip to IND next week.
NYG 41 OAK 50
NYG 34 ARI 39
NYG 23 ATL 26.5
NYG 24 IND 26
SF is a 1-4 team that could join the 1-5 or 2-4 groups after tomorrow night, that tie break is
NYG 37 SF 40
Tiebreaks against 2-4 teams:
NYG 39 DEN 47
NYG 30 BUF 36
NYG 23 ATL 26.5
And against a 2-3 team:
NYG 33 DET 37
CLE is 2-3-1. A tiebreak doesn't come into play unless CLE plays a tie game or NYG play a tie game
Yes that helps them to finish with a worse record than those teams if they lose.
Note however, that the head-to-head result is not the tiebreaker if they finish with the same record as those teams.
But IND is a problem because they have a similar situation.
whoops. they should be under 2-4.
I should thank you, you've always been helpful with the playoff threads.
Denver is a sure thing. Oakland probably will. Indy is a maybe. Tampa Bay probably would. These are the teams that I want to see win every game.

Indy and Tampa would not use a top pick on a QB. Oakland is unlikely as well. They would more likely trade the pick to a team that is desperate for a qb, like the Giants or Redskins...
While I can't be certain we will lose those games - those teams are all putrid defensively - anyone who has seen us play knows to drop back in Cover 2, and that should short circuit us offensively. All of the aforementioned teams are great offensively, so they should have success moving the ball against us.
As was mentioned above, the biggest thing is for us to not lose a tiebreaker to a team needing a QB. We need to finish ahead of those teams (OAK is a big one, TB possibly as well, depending on Winston's performance from here on out).

You've got ATL listed as both a 1-5 and a 2-4.

Thank you ray; I know how hard it is to get every detail correct in a presentation as thorough as yours.
Let's hope we're talking playoff possibilities some year soon.
BUF picks up 2 to make it NYG 30 BUF 38
DET picks up 1 to make it NYG 33 DET 38

Which always made no sense to me.

Those were the days.

dude, I don't think Tampa is getting rid of Winston yet. He is 24 and was one of the best QBs in the NFL the second half of 2017. If he was available tomorrow the Giants would jump on him.
Oakland saves $15 Million by releasing Derek Carr next year and Gruden has already traded away the best defensive player in the league, so no one is safe.

the rest of the teams on that list of bottom feeders have their franchise QB already.

Is Carr a bust or is he just a bust in Grudens system?

He is having a rough year but he has NO weapons. None.
Actually, I am really hoping that the Giants can clinch the #1 overall pick and then auction it off to a QB needy team and move down somewhere in the top 5 or so.
I know the Giants will need a QB soon as well. However, I strongly believe that with the cap impact now minimized, the Giants will trade or cut a vast majority of the remaining high salary vets on the team. That likely means that they will be really bad in 2019 as well- like top 5 pick bad.
Trading a top pick in this year's draft could net you an extra pick this year (Recoup that lost 3rd rounder?) as well as at least one future draft pick. Assuming they don't move outside the top 5, they still can get the best OL or pass rush guy available and rebuild the lines.
I firmly believe that the Giants need to rebuild the OL and pass rush before they can even think about a QB. By having Barkley and OBJ around, a young QB will have weapons to ease the transition, but as this year has demonstrated, with no OL, nothing else matters.
I see a 6’6” Mahones type from Oregon in the Giants future.
WTF happened to this franchise...

I'm guessing that neither of those teams will be looking QB
Maybe not but other teams can always leapfrog the Giants by swapping picks with one of these two teams and take the player the Giants want. Happened to Jerry Reese fairly often.
