"Generational" to me is a draft designation that says "a prospect this good comes around once a generation." Odell wasn't that kind of prospect coming out of college. Barkley, Luck, Nelson, those guys were. (even if Nelson has struggled so far)
but remember what impact OBJ had on the offense when he started in his rookie season?
Now, his injury might have taken away some of that explosiveness, we can't tell with what other problems the offense currently has. But if he hasn't lost any of that speed, he's easily the most dangerous WR in the NFL, with the possible exception of Hill.
The truth is, Gettleman was smart to draft Barkley.
The mistake he made was not trading Beckham for a 2018 or 2019 1st and subsequently locking up a guy who does nothing but embarrass himself and the organization year after year since he's been a Giant.
For those screaming about drafting a "franchise QB", if they had done this, they likely would have already drafted a prospect in addition Barkley, or would have been able to do whatever they want in this year's 1st round.
Its proven to be a big waste of time. I am very thankful for the SB's that Eli has brought us. If we are discussing their careers as Giants, Eli has been better. Right now, OBJ is a top tier WR, Eli isn't even a starting caliber QB. Facts. Good luck to you.
People are now minimizing what Barkley is doing in defense of Beckham and I (and others making the same points as me) are the crazy ones?
It's like Beckham is some kind of pet around here. He is not to be blamed or criticized by the fans and he has no equal on the football field by any player in the NFL.
He has had a pretty mediocre year if you want to discuss the here and now. And like I said, he's still the same asshole he's always been.
He's already in the upper echelon of RB's in the NFL.
OBJ is still one of the best, if not the best too. He can't throw the ball to himself. Our QB is the issue in regards to OBJ.
I do not like his hissy fits though. I'd rather he was more like SB, but he is who he is. You take the good with the bad. He's still one of the best and he hates losing. His behavior is not detrimental to the game, that's all I care about.
here is the all time leaders in Receiving yards per game..
Rank Player Y/G Years Tm
1 Julio Jones 96.6 2011-2018 atl
2 Odell Beckham 93.0 2014-2018 nyg
3 Calvin Johnson 86.1 2007-2015 det
4 Antonio Brown 85.9 2010-2018 pit
5 A.J. Green 80.6 2011-2018 cin
Do you see OBJ? do you see how high he is and the gap between him and Calvin (who is all time great).. I cannot find the other stat quickly enough but as of last year I know he was the all time leader in TD/game receiving.. Don't give me this bullshit that he is not a great player..
OBJ can do no wrong. Or call people here OBJ fanboys.
Its nice to turn the tide :)
By this statement it sounds like you're a Eli fan and not a Giants fan. Don't be mad that ELI is trash.
By your reaction, it just seems like you understood about 0.00% of my post. Congratulations.
What is there to understand? You said you can't wait to say OBJ can do no wrong as if you're 2 years old and this will be your great comeback for all the Eli can do no wrong post. Keep waiting.
Lucky to play for a team that can utilize their talents. Everyone in the league acknowledges that OBJ is a monstrous talent, but we can't or don't get him the ball. (Also, his two-hand catches are becoming suspect.)

Some of us were advocating an obj trade in the summer. In hindsight it's clear signing a basket case who lost a step and can no longer break slants for tds was DG's biggest mistake. Even bigger than signing Stewart!
The inadequacy of this offense has nothing to do with OBJ. Â
Numerous head coaches and GMs as well as team ownership have all publicly pleaded with him to knock it off.
He also sucks at returning punts.
But yea, let's continue shitting on a Super Bowl winning QB on his way out and a rookie RB who is awesome and acts like a seasoned veteran even though people who constantly defend Beckham told us to give the kid a break, that it's too much to ask that he act like a pro while he's still so young.
People are now minimizing what Barkley is doing in defense of Beckham and I (and others making the same points as me) are the crazy ones?

3 100 yard games in his first season with one of the worst offenses in football is a mediocre year? Fun fact, this is his 2nd best 6 game start in his career. And the best start was only better due to a heroic 200+ yard game againstr Baltimore. He's a slow starter. And this may be the worst offense he played in. Maybe last year's was worse since Barkley wasn't there, but it seems like Eli regressed even more.

Shit, that was supposed to be 3 100 yard games in his first 6 games of the season.

Maybe "acting like a pro" is just overrated, meaningless criticism. The reason it's a 'distraction' is that people like you eat it up and can't stop talking about it.
Please define people like me TTH. What bucket have you placed me in? I'd love to hear it.
Here is a start on how to act like a professional. Maybe not smash your head against a cooling fan in the middle of a childish sideline fit that is calling negative attention to yourself and your team in the middle of a disgusting loss?
that just hates losing and is embarrassed by what we are all seeing. Not sure I like how he expresses himself and how he can't control himself at times, but at the end of the day, it's a guy that hates losing. We need more of those guys.
Is everything you would expect a top receiver in today's NFL with 60 million dollars worth of guaranteed money. He wants the ball, he wants stats, he want highlights and publicity. They all do. It is what it is.
is not acceptable, but both the team and player say he went for an IV so I have to take them at their word. If he did walk off with time left(even though we are idiots for running a play there), I'd be ok with him getting punished.
I don't like Odells outbursts, I'm just explaining why. He's frustrated with being the worst offense in football. He's sick of losing. We have 2 of the best skill players in the league and we can't figure out a way to get Odell the ball past the LOS. That has to be beyond frustrating for him. Again, I am not saying that I like it, but that's why.
Also, SB is a rookie. He's obviously a different kind of guy, guys like him don't come around often, but he's played in 6 games. Odell has been a part of this pathetic offense for 3 years.
that it was Odell's age? That his stardom was a lot to handle for a young kid under the microscope of New York?
Well...he's a veteran now. He's been paid. The losing has gotten to him? He went to the playoffs a couple of seasons ago, but he wasn't really prepared to perform.
I'm sure I can think of star athletes who have endured more pain and suffering when it comes to being on losing teams.
Honestly just sounds like more excuses. Kevin Durant stuff.
He's still showing signs of immaturity. Being frustrated that we suck is a good thing. Having an emotional outburst on the sideline that isn't gonna do anything to help the situation is not. Still showing immaturity which we all hoped would be over. Still want the guy on my team though. He's still an amazing WR and should be a part of the solution.

Odell does not have to turn into a child when things are not going his way. You can chalk it up to being a competitor but the classy competitors in this game do not have a tantrum on the sideline.
Barkley would never do that. You can see it already. When he scores, he acts like he has been in the end zone before. He is already the leader on offense.
BBI is the bastion of over-reaction, but you'd swear that Odell has a fork in his back from some of the recent posts about him.
The guy is generational. He's among the all-time leaders for almost every receiving stat to start a career. His one-handed catch has spawned a lot of other players to try one-handed catches.
It is like a losing season just means we have several cockmonkeys each day starting threads.
Now, his injury might have taken away some of that explosiveness, we can't tell with what other problems the offense currently has. But if he hasn't lost any of that speed, he's easily the most dangerous WR in the NFL, with the possible exception of Hill.
Yes, he is better than all of those guys.
I will take it a step further. I think he is significantly better than all of them except maybe Gurley.

If only he didn't have the worst QB in the NFL trying to throw him 3 yard passes.
You really have to question any Giant fan who trashes Eli Manning in defense of Odell Beckham Jr.
One guy produced 2 Super Bowls for the franchise.
The other made a cool highlight catch against Dallas.

Well no, I'm not that old.... but yea he wasn't great and look how that turned out.
