I don't think the Giants were wrong to part ways with Flowers - we all watched his play, he was brutal, but you'd think this many teams interested they could have worked out a trade even though it was no secret they were planning to release him.
It will be very interesting to see if Flowers resurrects his career elsewhere.

Ereck Flowers signed with the #Jaguars, but according to an #NFL source, there were ‘half a dozen’ teams interested in the ex-#Giants first-round pick: |

Coaches have egos too; they think they can 'fix' talent.
One thing I will say though, we knew he couldn't play tackle on either side, so why in the world did we not try him at guard? Did we even try?

It's not that - it's the dearth of OL talent in the NFL.
As much as everyone wants to ignore it, it's true. That's why lineman salaries have shot up. That's the only way we can justify paying Solder what we did.
Hell, Greg Robinson is on a roster too.
Very little risk for the Jag's, It's not like they used a top 10 pick in the draft for him.
"Another example, and there are plenty, of draft status being the only reason someone gets a job. If anyone below the 3rd round had Flowers film, he'd never play again."

Man, Schwartz can't help himself can he. Flowers is benched then cut and he's still taking shots at him.
Also, I seriously doubt Coughlin and Flaherty brought him in due to draft status. They have first hand experience with him. They signed him because they figured he might be useful to them.

I agree. He might have made a decent Right Guard. Omamah is below average. Or we should have just retained Fluker and cut Flowers in the offseason.
Likely with an eye to the offseason.

After 3+ years he still couldn't fix his technique issues at OT. What makes you think he can make the more drastic changes needed for a switch to OG?

Moving to guard changed Leonard Davis' career after being the #2 pick and flaming out at tackle. This is why I held out hope for Flowers under the idea that all options would be exhausted first.
But it appeared the Giants were in a "tackle or bust" mode with him, that no other option would suffice. I never totally understood that.
Good point re: communication. He struggled when communicating with 1 guy (OG), but people assume he'd be better at OG where he has to communicate with 2 guys (C and OT) every play?

The article says it was a "league source", pretty sure if it was Rosenhaus they would have crafted as "a source with knowledge of the situation" or something like that, but not a "league source"

I'll agree Schwartz must really not like him, as he never has anything good to say about him - but he was asked about him - it's wasn't unsolicited.
I do find it odd that Coughlin/Flaherty brought him aboard... since there was rumors of a clash with Flaherty.
As far as helping? He might...Who knows... I will say, of the available guys out there who can play LT who aren't currently playing or injured, he's probably the best. That aint saying much though!
2. Assuming the interest manifested itself in actual offers and that the offers were all comparable, it's interesting that Flowers chose reuniting with TC/Flaherty over the other possible destinations after all the rumblings we've heard.

Davis didn't flame out at OT. He occassionally had issues with speed but he was solid and he would have been a better fit on the right side. He was just an elite guard. The Giants were interested in him in free agency and they reportedly wanted him for OT at the time.
Keep in mind, a guy can be a decent tackle or decent guard in one system and completely suck ass in another. We consistently get big physical guys and try to have them play this pansy ass west coast passive blocking style. Bad mix of style and ability.

Wouldn't be so strict with the choice of wording, my money is on Rosenhaus.

They signed him bc they’re decimated by injuries and he’s all that’s out there.
Maybe they are looking for somebody to boost the confidence of their DL during practice!
LOL.
(Yeah, I know he didn't play).

No, I believe that would have been the case if he was claimed off waivers, but he was not, he went unclaimed so the Giants are solely responsible for his entire remaining contract signed as a rookie.

Being on their 3rd string LT, Flowers on a vet. min. deal is an upgrade. He likely will never resurrect his career, but a moving speed bump who is adept at clothes-lining or kicking the opponent is better than nothing.
