Youtube breakdown of offensive meltdowns vs Eagles

Interesting.
Video mostly blames Eli - ( New Window )
Im not sure what some people need to see.

Eli is one of the worst QB's in the NFL at this point in his career. Doesn't make me happy to say that. He is a large problem with our offense. SOme of those plays are really, really bad. I'm guessing some will continue to put their head in teh sand though and blame the OL, odells outbursts and the defense.
Sad

It looks like Eli is playing hot potato out there. Yikes
Some of these throws by Eli were brutal
dep026 : 10/15/2018 5:02 pm : link
1. The INT was bad. Eli said that Simonson was the first read and the defender fooled him.
2. The miss throw to SS with Latimer open was another brutal throw. A pitch and catch there and it’s a huge play.

Some of the other breakdowns were iffy like throwing it to Barkley instead of Simonson. And the throw to SS inside the red zone was a good read. The player he shadowed was not that open.

But can we admit the comparison of OBJs catch against Dallas to the play missed against the Eagles is just stupid? Eli had room and stepped up to throw. In the eagles game on that play there was a defender right there.
If they started Lauletta

from here on out, is there really any way anyone could complain?
I like seeing these for the video more
hitdog42 : 10/15/2018 5:09 pm : link
Than the guys intepretations - as some of these are “harry hindsight”

But several are just plain bad— and inexcusable - the decision the throw the gallman Into double coverage- the first int - painful to watch

I'm not convinced that the Giants wouldn't be a better team

with Lauletta starting. That's not a Lauletta endorsement and he very well might stink up the joint but his strengths as a prospect are a better fit for where the Giants are right now than Eli is. Weak arm? They can't throw the ball downfield anyway and he's accurate on short and intermediate throws, does a good job feeling the pressure, moving around the pocket and most importantly sees the field and is decisive.
Yeah, I don't agree with a lot of what he said...
Dan in the Springs : 10/15/2018 5:37 pm : link
Especially with the criticisms of the scrambles in the pocket. "A more mobile QB would have..."

Well Eli is not a more mobile QB. If he'd try to scramble instead of throwing it we'd end up with the HC and fans yelling for him to "throw the ball". If your point is that Eli's lack of mobility is hurting the team, you didn't need to make a video to prove it.

The other criticisms are a mixed bag. It's always easy to criticize the QB for missed opportunities - happens to every QB on Monday.

Having said that - the pattern is clear and his observation of the Eagles film study is spot-on, imo. Clearly Eli favors the short completion and the Eagles know it. On third and long, back up 7 defenders and play the sticks. The Eagles backed those defenders up well before the ball was snapped - they were basically telling Eli they didn't believe he'd try a throw in traffic - inviting him to check it down (again) and bring out the punter.

This strategy has to be beaten or we're going to see a lot more of it. I'm not sure Eli's arm is strong/accurate enough to consistently win contested throws >15 yds downfield, especially to the outside. Seems like he doesn't trust it, and for good reason.

Half of the video is valid..
EricJ : 10/15/2018 5:45 pm : link
and half isn't.

I agree with this assessment and was actually my same thoughts. Lauletta's strengths are exactly Eli's weakness right now. Its just a matter of whether he can call and run the offense.
That

video shows the lack of offense is a combination of bad play from the OL and Eli. Eli looks hesitant and skittish. It looks like he won't throw into tight windows. Other teams know that, and play him accordingly. He can't extend plays with his feet, even for a few seconds. As I've said, I think we'll see Lauletta this year.

Agreed.
I'm not so sure Lauletta's arm
Simms11 : 10/15/2018 7:01 pm : link
would be any better. He does not have a strong arm and he might actually be better suited for a dome team then a team playing in the wind and weather of Metlife?! I guess we'll see.
mixed bag
PaulBlakeTSU : 10/15/2018 7:13 pm : link
some of the throws were bad throws and he did miss some reads as would any QB in the league. It's more frustrating since the GIants have so few opportunities to go down the field that you hate seeing him check down when he could have taken a chance

But some of the analysis is bad, too. The creator ignores the high safety and his ability to cover ground; it criticizes Eli for throwing to Barkley on 3rd down in the middle of the field instead of Simonson at the bottom of the screen while suggesting he should lead Simonson on a route he wasn't even running. The video also asked Eli to roll out on a play where Chris Long had Wheeler falling down and would have demolished Manning. Also, the play where they recalled the Beckham catch was different in that Eli didn't have the same room to load up and step into the throw.

Also, I would guess that Shurmur wants Eli to check down to Barkley when he's in the open field and to treat it like a rushing attempt and so that's why he does so when waiting an extra beat might open up something else.

In general, I want Eli taking more chances down the field. May as well go out swinging.
I would say 25% of that video is accurate...75% pure poppy cock..

3 poppy cock examples..

2:31...The most absurd one is "this is how Eli used to throw it"...In the Eagles game he had 2 guys about to crush him and on the OBJ one handed catch play he was able to stop plant his feet and make the throw because there was no one around him...

3:23..."Right here he should be loading up for a long throw" play...he's got a guy bearing down on him from behind and a guy who breaks free in front and to top it off they don't even show downfield so no way of knowing if anyone open..

3:50...Says he should roll right but Wheeler's guy knocks him right on his ass and would have been right there for the sack..

WI am sure his arm is every bit as strong as Eli's. Trouble is people read something in a newspaper and they stick with it forever. He looked pretty good throwing the short to medium passes but maybe a little weak on the longer throws. Probably, more of an accuracy issue than a weak arm. I would hope these yo yo's wouldnt draft a QB in the 3rd round that does not have a pro arm. Otherwise what would you need him for. To play catch with your kids?
