NFT: I think I just received a phone scam...

EricJ : 10/15/2018 6:35 pm
I recently created a google business listing. So, today I get a call and the individual says they want to help finish updating my business listing.

"Is this Eric?"

After I said yes, they hung up. I am thinking it was obviously fake and they wanted to record me saying yes.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea what kind of scam they will run with this? Maybe a new set of encyclopedias will show up at the house with a bill? LOL
That sounds like one to me

Be vigilant.
Wait, do you have a business?

It most likely is a scam, but I wouldn't put it past Google to be verifying actual business listings in such a way, particularly given the number of bogus listings that exist.
Nah

Getting you to say “Yes” isn’t some magic password that accomplishes anything. There’s no database of voiceprints to authenticate voices. If they needed a voice “Yes”, anyone could record one and claim you said it.

They’re probably just verifying your line, so they can farm your number out to actual scamsters. Enjoy!

yes I have a business and I did create a google listing about 30 days ago. So, on the surface it did not sound strange. The way the call abruptly ended after I said yes told me something was wrong.
