too bad we didn't keep him one more year and give him that 100 million dollar defense that McAdoo got.
Yes Coughlin's offense with Mac the 2 years before Mac got there were better, but I'm a solid believer that the offense scored more points, and got more yardage because the opposite side let up a little bit after going up big against us.
Lots of garbage yards and points that made our offense look better then it actually was.
Which shouldn't be much of a surprise seeing that some of the same coaches and styles influenced both men. It's still confusing to me why they had Gettleman walk up there and talk up smash mouth football and a return to the old Giants way...and then a month later hire a guy to be the coach who runs something similar to the guy you just fired. But I guess lack of a plan is now the Giants way or something.

This is my question as well. I bought into the hype from the GM, he goes and hires a coach who seems allergic to running the ball.
even in 11 personnel. I think it is better than the zone scheme we are running right now. Barkley would be productive in any offense, but our line is not great with this current zone scheme. Power running, play action passing.
how and what play calls you use. If you can’t run the ball, can’t pass block more than two seconds, what plays do you expect Shurmur to call? Seriously!
Shurmur's offense is far, far superior and is resulting in WRs getting open a lot downfield. Eli is not getting the ball to them enough, but I don't see how anyone thinks that this offense isn't better than BM's offense, which was 11-personnel all the time and our opponent's laughed at how predictable and easy to defend it was.
You may or may not like the results and there are on-field reasons for that, but Shurmur's offense is actually a very good one, and worked very well for Case Keenum of all people and that Minnesota Vikings team last year. It isn't all of a sudden a bad offense, and you can see guys getting open often.
WR's get open. McAdoo ran very little motion, rarely bunched receivers, very few rub routes, all those things that help WR's get open, especially when your star WR is a little on the small side. Motion also has the added benefit of forcing the defense to reveal itself.
I've said this before, I still think people underestimate just how bad McAdoo's scheme was. I went to the game in SF last year, and it was eye opening how much better Shanahan's scheme was. McAdoo ran one play where Eli faked a jet sweep to the strong side, then rolled out to the same side, with one WR running a slant to that side. WTF did he expect would happen?

The critical part of my brain shut down and just assumed Shurmur would, common sense, adjust his offense to Eli. Nope, and here we are.

Hernandez looked good pulling and effectively blocking two people for long easy SB TD run.
Critical of Sheppard, but he is blocking well at least.

Barkley is getting s lot of touches and those dump offs are like runs. They are 2 yards down the field and in space.

Dump offs are not like runs to me. Run blocking the o line has initiative and can hit the defensive front. Run at and hit some of these pass rushers. Make them work physically to stop the ball carrier. This also opens up play action and denies defensive front ability to pin ears back and rush with reckless abandon.
Well that's original. I said it once and I will say it again, the QB can make the offensive line look better than they can make themselves look. Brady and Belichik and we are not close to either.

And the clock management too...
Engram drops too many passes, gets hurt and has yet to be a difference maker.
Sheppard is overrated and number 3 at best
O Line is just bad.

this team can't even get garbage points...
