we draft busts. If we get our new franchise QB and he's legit, we aren't the Browns. We're just re-building, transitioning from one successful era to hopefully the next successful era. Having a few bad seasons inbetween should be expected.
That said, if say for instance, the pick is Herbert and he ends up as a complete bust, then yes, it's going to be bad for a longer stretch.
...I know the Dave Brown era was a difficult one but we still (sort of) had a playoff team in 97.
It's too early to judge but they had a terrific draft - another good draft (including a young QB) and I think we will feel better.
The frustrating thing is that we are in week 7 and need to get get through this season.
I feel you guys too, last year was tough but the firing of Reese and McAdoo gave us hope. Now we are going into an off-season where we know DG and Shurmur are returning.
The good news is we have talent. There are players on each side of the ball that are above average to very good (not all). On offense, we have a good TE, as much as he is a loud mouth a great receiver along with a very good receiver in SS. Obviously Barkley is a positive and hopefully 2 or 3 good O-lineman (I know Solder has not played well but I think hope better days are ahead).
I don't think next year is going to be a great year, record-wise but a good draft and maybe a return to a winning culture, this may be closer then we think.
Like I said, I am down on them and it looks bleak but the personnel moves and roster building needs to wait for the off-season.
They are very similar to the 70'Giants at the moment, But they are still the New York Giants with more Championships than most other teams in the NFL.
They ll be back

I think you are right here. Everyone is taking the opportunity to blast Mara, but it is very hard to manage the end of a great player on the decline. The fans made it known last year & Mara is trying to please the fans while trying to win again with Eli. It’s hard & Mara is learning the hard way how listening to the fans can backfire.
The management of this team has been bad, but once the page is turned from Eli I do think the decisions will improve.
I know a lot of you guys haven't, and this is all new to you -- especially if you're a Yankees fan. In the 70s, it was Wellington Mara who couldn't seem to run the team. Now it's his son. This era is taking on grim similarities to that one. That era might never have ended if the league office hadn't forced the Mara family to accept George Young as GM. This era may not end until somebody forces John Mara and Steve Tisch to do something similar. Tisch doesn't pretend to run the football side, is more a silent partner but they still have 50-50 split of ownership, so neither man is entirely accountable. I tend to blame Mara, and I think he and Eli are the constants over this era of decadence.

I'm as disappointed as the rest, but this team is no where near as historically bad as the 1966 version (the gold standard of ineptitude)......yes, the team that was on the receiving end of the 72-41 drubbing by the Redskins and 51-14 by the Rams. Believe we all had much higher expectations for this season but now have to realize that we are in a legit rebuild ---with the proviso that we do have SOME talent ---OBJ, Saquon, Collins, Snacks, the 2018 draft class, etc. to build around. Hard as it is for me to admit, the Eli era has passed and the introduction of a more mobile, dynamic player at QB and some added pass rush defensively can turn this around to be at least more competitive. As bad as the 1966 team was, the addition of Fran Tarkenton made the 1967 team entertaining and fun. In the meantime, we need to find out what the young guys have and scout around for a hidden gem or two while awaiting the next draft.
As for the Cleveland Browns analogy ---I think the issue may revolve around the Giants not knowing how to win / close out games ---the Browns consistently blew games late --they KNEW they were going to lose somehow and it became a reality. Now that's a real problem ---we need leaders on offense and defense to rally the troops and infuse a winning attitude by making key plays in crunch time --and that's why the next group of round 1-4 draft choices will be so important, along with picking up a key FA or two to lead this team out of the wilderness.

Good post. And I agree with we will need help in the next draft to get us out of this mess. And that will come from the GM and Coach. However, I have not seen anything brilliant from this coach yet on or off the field. He does not have control of this team, he sends out an inferior product every week and he is not able to make adjustments during the game. Case in point, the Giants marched right down the field on the opening drive against N.O. N.O. made the proper adjustments to that drive and the Giants went nowhere after that. We were not prepared at all.
The hallmark of the Parcells' era was the ability to adjust in-game, especially at half time. This made the games both winnable and entertaining to watch. The jury is still out on the current staff, but it's not looking good. Then again, Parcells' first year was ugly but turned around big time after that. We can only hope. Winning programs are infused, top to bottom, with winners...GM...Coaches...Players.
God help us all

Did those Browns draft Barkley? Oh wait, those teams and drafts yielded no one.
Go on.

Thre giants have a long fucking way to go before getting on their level. We stink, get over it, move on. It isn’t forever.
All they have to do now is screw up the QB search next year and they will be well on their way to becoming the Browns.
Yeah, I see the similarity after a couple of bad years...
NOT!
GET A GRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
